  1. I'm sorry but your kind of stretching there bud. If the default option of the console is to go into standby, or this 'rest mode' then you argument is pointless. No law maker is going to see making the device more energy efficient as a bad thing. You've purposely picked one if the acts main goals from skimming the page, which you've picked because it's a broad statement which you hope will prove your right, when in fact means nothing unless you actually find the specifics within the the DSA and DMA, which i'm sure you won't do as you haven't even done the basic googling to see what the default setting is. Don't worry I'll tell you, it's set to energy saver sleep mode by default. All your frustration with this news was for nought because it's the default option. So please don't say this one little setting is greenwashing or some other BS against consumer rights. It's just an update to an already existing, enabled by default, feature.
  2. Has anyone got some tin foil? In all seriousness, isn't this just emulating what Sony has been doing since the PS4 with rest mode but more efficient? As it's been stated many times you do not own the software just a licence to access and use it, just like the games you would play on your fictional Xbox, you don't own the game just a licence to play it. If you worked with enterprise or business solutions you'll get said licence and sometimes it's as strict as not allowing you to do your own troubleshooting and having to contact the company to fix it. It's quite literally how every single modern device is maintained. Microsoft's only mistake is to tell people like you they've made this change, the ‘standby’ state is likely always on by default. It's just they're updating it to be more energy efficient and save you time with your fictional xbox when your fictional game needs updating, god forbid.
  3. So I walked away from my PC came back 15 minutes later and my PG279QM has a black screen. I've tired restarting my PC, new cable, different device, different deivce over HDMI, restarting the monitor, unplugging the monitor for 10 minute and no other cables but the display plugged in. It just remains a black screen, no splash screen displays, the OSD doesn't show up when you press the menu button, the monitor flicks when a device is connected, windows detects the monitor and I can change the resolution. I've tried every resolution at 60hz and no luck. If anyone has any suggestions while I wait for Asus support is welcome.
  4. Yup, we use G Suite and have our data retention for email set to indefinitely as you never know how far back somethings may go. And only 2 people have access me and my manager. Vault is great for findling lost work, or email. Same here, it's daft how everyone gets mad over a teacher's seeing what students are working on, but don't realise that most SysAdmins or higher IT roles can access practically all data in an organisation without being detected. You just don't do it because it's a waste of time.
  5. Which is what this allows. Most schools have a school email system. Now it depends on what the school web filter blocks and how it functions, we had ours allow social media sites 3PM-9PM.
  6. The only people that would be able to see any of this would be the schools IT team whether that's a inhouse (Like me) or an Managed Sservice Provider, whatever is found is usually sent to the school Desinated Safeguarding Lead who then deals with the issue. Teachers shouldn't have access to those tools. The exception to that is devices used within school to ensure students are do their work and not goofing off. There is no spying. While it's possible to do all of this it very likely wouldn't happen, and no tool I've seen in the education sector allows you remotely activate a webcam, some can activate a microphone for communcation but it prompts the end user. There is no need to gather that kind of data on students. You've got to remember teachers wouldn't and shouldn't have access to this.
  7. We had to seek out additional licensing for multiple solutions we have as we didn't loan out devices before the pandemic. Luckily vendors that provide our solutions had prepared detailed guides to quickly get solutions in place. One vendor even approached us to beta test their cloud filtering which syncs with our onsite firewall. Whether you're a troll or a young student. The article is click bait and aimed to put a negative view on filtering and monitoring software for school devices, please read some of these comments and educate yourself. These solutions are key to finding vulnerable students and other safeguarding issues.
  8. So you need to remember these are not owned by the student or their family, these are owned by the school. Therefore the school needs to provide web filtering and monitoring as the devices are often locked down to prevent students installing whatever they want. Due to this parents can't their own monitoring or filtering software. This means the school has to provide it at all times or the school could be blamed for little Jimmy coming across something he shouldn't. Yes there are other solutions that don't need to be installed on the device, but the parents may not know this. As long as owned by the school, it is the schools responsibility. These devices are provided so that students can participate in classes and do homework, this means that after school hours it's still a school device, not a personal device.
  9. It should be explained as leadeater said when the device is given to the parent. As for emails all parents have to sign a data consent form that explains that we have the right to access their emails. Now we don't go doing that when we feel like it. It's only ever done when there is legitimate concern about a vulnerable student, often triggered by monitoring software. These emails and any supporting evidence are sent to the schools safeguarding lead. I've personally dealt with investigations of cyber bullying, self harm and abuse at home. Whilst everyone deserves privacy, it is everyone's duty in a school to look out for the wellbeing of a child. You need to remember not all students have happy households and these are sometimes the only clues for vulnerable students.
  10. Their mistake was asking teachers about this. I'm a SysAdmin for a school in the UK only a couple of our teachers actually understand how our monitoring and filtering software functions. As we provided devices to students we explain to the parents that the device is owned by the school and is our duty to monitor and filter the device, they then sign a document confirming they understand this. Most of what's in place won't be to spy and scrap information it'll be to make sure bullying isn't happening, that a Web filter is in place as it's the schools duty to protect the child. There is more to it but it's all about the wellbeing of the student.
  11. Well seems it's still possible to exploit even after the patch. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/07/microsofts-emergency-patch-fails-to-fix-critical-printnightmare-vulnerability/
  12. Got it working at 15-15-15-35 @3600MHz 1.35V as suggested. Oddly enough It just wouldn't work at 3200MHz no matter what timings I set. I now install all the software I need on this build. Thanks for the help, did not think going to a higher frequency would work due to 3200Mhz at any frequency not working.
  13. Hello, I've just recent bought a ASUS Crosshair Impact, 5900X and some G.Skill F4-3200C14D-32GTZN. I can run DCOP with either stick by it's self but as soon as I enable it with both the system will lock up when entering windows. Anyone able to help or give some advice?
  14. It's more likely that these are designated OEM cards that do not come in standard retail packaging. Remember when the 30 series launched and newegg shipped out a bunch of OEM cards and they got damaged in shipping?
