Emberstone got a reaction from Athreous in Please, what's the best upgrade possible from a ryzen 5 3600x keeping the same setup?
I ain't lying and already included a known caveat (it's spicy). I didn't say all games. Right now every high end CPU wins in many games. Up to you to figure out which wins for yours. I was making the argument from a value perspective because it does trade blows with the most expensive CPUs on the market at only $330, and not exclusively in GPU-bound scenarios.

    I ain't gonna clarify which games. That's Steve's job.

I never made this blanket statement.

Gonna stop here because I would be derailing going forward.

Personally, I say just get the 5800X3D and be done with it if your mobo can handle it. AntOnline is still selling them on their online store and on Ebay for $330. I got mine through them on Ebay a little over a week ago, and I hear stock is starting to run low.

$330 for a CPU that beats the 7950X or 13900K in many games seems like a no-brainer to me if you have the cash for it. Just be warned that you'll need some decent cooling for this chip to get its absolute max performance.

That said, hiccups in mouse movement and stuff don't seem like a CPU issue. We figured out smooth mouse movement with CPUs that have double-digit MHz clock speeds back in the 90s, so it's likely software causing this issue, not your 3600X.

Quoting both of you so you know that I think I might've found the culprit: I think it's Minecraft itself.

I re-enabled Vsync in the game's config file, and Windows is no longer laggy. I wonder if this has something to do with its interaction with the DWM process since it's a UWP-based game. I ran an RTX benchmark I found on Steam and disabled DLSS so the GPU was pegged as hard as it could be at 100%, and my example video wasn't lagging at all during that benchmark.

The shitty part about Minecraft's Vsync is it "latches" to multiples of your refresh rate. If I'm ever below 144 FPS (which is most of the time in the realm my friends and I play on), it will lock to 72 FPS.

Guess that's just how it has to be. Really, really disappointing.

I ran synthetic benchmarks like Superposition and I score right where the 3080 Ti should, so bandwidth limitations don't seem likely.

Going to run DDU next. See yall on the other side.

Pretty sure the issue was that he would be one of the "star Youtubers" and not just a regular attendee going to an event solely to enjoy it. As he put it, it's business. If I had to leave my own business to be part of someone else's, I'd expect to be compensated in some fashion, especially because Louis doesn't have any kind of brand to promote or booth to market out.

Considering he'd be losing several thousand dollars from trip costs and unfinished repairs back at the shop, all in the end to throw a bone to someone else's event/business (LMG), I think it's a bit short sighted to say this is simply "self centered."

Emberstone got a reaction from Trik'Stari in Show off your old and retro computer parts
After thinking a little bit about the age of my own system, I started to wonder what other experiences people have had with their computers/components that simply won't die, or simply won't stop being awesome despite their age.

For context, my PC is on the X58 platform and is rocking 3x4GB of DDR3 in triple channel and an i7-980X overclocked to 4.0 GHz. As with my Q6600 + SLI 8800 GT rig before it, I expected this computer to start falling behind a year or two after its birth, but graphics card aside, it hasn't. The 980X, a seven-year-old CPU, continues to be faithful to this day. Cities: Skylines runs great and Doom never seems to drop below 120 fps. The GTX 1070 is allowed to reach max GPU usage and the CPU barely breaks a sweat. If Ryzen doesn't provide a big upgrade at a decent price, this computer will continue to live on for the years to come assuming nothing breaks.

I couldn't be happier with this thing, to the point where I have an emotional attachment to it and the level of performance it provides after all these years. I've had it for so long (since early 2010), I don't want to see it go when the time comes!

So yeah, do any of you folks have any old, reliable hardware you've fallen in love with over the years?

Considering Louis has done a fair bit for Linus up to this point, if I were in his position I'd be a bit insulted that Linus isn't throwing me a bone. It's like none of that work matters anymore.

But since none of us are Louis or Linus, we're all lacking context/info surrounding what was actually said or the state of LMG's finances, so it's all pretty moot anyway. Others were tossing their two cents, so I figured I would, too.
