  1. This is actually a much better use of mobile computing in my opinion since folding focuses on very large work units. There are definitely some distributed computing projects that work better to be optimized for more less powerful hardware. What projects do you run on them though?
  2. Definitely true. I just couldn't resist the urge of sarcasm flowing through me. But you're right science is taking a big win on this event for sure.
  3. sounds like someone in 2nd... lol. sorry couldn't resist.
  4. I think it took a huge back seat when sony dropped their end of support for the playstation client. I mean it was a pretty poorly design anyways since you couldn't hook it to a normal folding account as it was. And I'm sure the computing power they were getting from it wasn't worth the time let alone the fact that they probably had to work twice as hard to cut projects into small enough chunks to be able to get them to finish on something so weak compared to today's computer hardware.
  5. In a perfect world I would want a want to add ducting to outside so it can vent to outside easier if its warm already and find a way to maybe hook it through some kind of controller to be able to temperature regulate the house too like your normal central heating and then have a valve hooked up as well to be able to close it off from the rest of they system in case I have to run actual heat instead or something. @Gorgon can you do this for your house and let me know how it goes? lol
  6. you are all giving me inspiration for future home projects. lol. Basement? more like compute center/ heater core.
  7. you will know at the end since our last post should also include days active.
  8. Lol. There are no secrets when I write the blog post.
  9. @Den-Fi did you sell your soul for another 10m ppd? What happened?
  10. STATS HERE! GET YOUR STATS HERE! FRESH ORGANIC STATS HERE!
  11. So for F@H they are sent different jobs but usually just much smaller ones that can be handled by the lower parallel processing. That being said its not like the cpu jobs in folding aren't things that could be better calculated on a GPU so the difference there is that you aren't hurting anything by not cpu folding. All that being said a lot of the reason most of us don't cpu fold isn't just because they are much less efficient its because in certain cases it will actually hinder your gpu folding efficiency. For instance for nvidia gpus you need to leave at least one cpu core for the processing bandwidth that is needed for the gpu to talk back and forth with the cpu other issues might be heat as keeping your gpu 3c colder could bump you up 15mhz. and such like that. If you have the extra cpu power and it wont effect anything else go for it. The number one motto in folding is "every bit helps" but it definitely isn't as efficient as gpu folding. This might actually be a bug that is going on in folding where it fails to download work units sometimes. I would try to delete the slot and re add it to see if it will work.
  12. They are drawing 3 of the winners from the top 100 then the rest of the winners randomly from those that entered the giveaway. You still have a chance to win even if you aren't top 100.
  13. I see what you mean and it might be good for publicity but When they do talk about it on WAN (which is only some weeks) Linus has referred to the fact they don't want to push the platform too much until they are out of alpha (no eta) but on the other side has mentioned that they do need it to start making money to hopefully offset some of the red that they are in. Maybe long term it wouldn't be a bad idea once they are in beta but for now I kinda doubt it would be ideal. Also having people able to verify points and then calculate discount on them isn't and easy task... at least not until @Gorgon @GOTSpectrum and I make our own stats tracking server... I do like the idea though of hopefully something LMG can do to encourage it and keep the participation up long term.
  14. I highly doubt that would happen. Mostly because floatplane is sill trying to become profitable and when you are in a situation like that with a startup you really need to have some sort of income even if you are still negative each month. but mostly I like the fact that we are all volunteers here. This team is honestly just a bunch of people folding for the betterment of science and just out of the goodness of our hearts. All our prizes were community donated even. I really like that mentality and with it look we are currently the highest producing team of all of them and in 9th place and probably going up more. But that is just me. Please just use advanced control. It has many other features you cant do from the web control client and gives you more information than you can get from it as well.
  15. Maybe one day people will stop folding for them and pick a real team then we could climb our way back up. Next years plan?.... @jakkuh_t
  16. I know the feeling I had a 670 that I threw into this old workstation but the power supply didn't have the right cables... Yes that is one pcie cable and one dual molex to 6pin adapter. (the ones you used to get with your cards when you bought them)
  17. At least it wasn't me this time. lol. Was this when you tried to copy the new week three sheet over?
  18. I think you got that backwards were supposed to be wishing all is well with you.
  19. Day 14 Stats!!! Get them while their hot! Also written by me so sorry for any errors grammatically or otherwise.
  20. I cant believe I didn't see this thread until now. This is amazing.
  21. Wow can't believe I didn't see this thread until now. For me both my mom and grandmother (same side of family) are breast cancer survivors. Also my grandfather had Alzheimer's and my grandmother on my dads side had dementia (both passed) Just love to see how we can help fight these diseases in ways that are a little more hands on and help bring out the nerd in me.
  22. Where did everyone pull an extra like 3m ppd out of their asses? I'm down to 13 and going to get passed by people now suddenly producing 8m ppd. lol
  23. My shader clock are you revering to core clock? And persistence mode is something I think it was missing. I am also having trouble viewing nvidia-settings through ssh.
  24. I don't know if @Gorgon already told you but if you set client type to beta it seems to stop giving me the download errors. and definitely less 14180s. I didn't expect to be there now so as far as I'm concerned I'm running on borrowed time. lol
