  1. Another vote for these. I've been using this very pair for a long time, before that the previous model. I also have two pairs of Taotronics Bluetooth over-ear noise cancelling headphones. They put out quality gear. I've yet to find a truly wireless earbud that's been more satisfying than the product woowee linked.
  2. Ars Technica Write up on Google's pushback against Huawei Speculation is that it will affect new Handsets, no clear word on existing handsets running current gen android.
  3. Fantastic. I think what I'll do, to start, then, is pick up an Edgerouter X and a Ubiquity AP for the upstairs area, which should be able to broadcast downstairs "ok". I'll then keep my eyes open for another AP that can Mesh with the upstairs one, hopefully wirelessly for now. Eventually I'd want to run a cable to the second AP/mesh but it's Michigan winter, too cold for that work right now. When I find specific hardware I'll try to post it here in case anyone is willing to look it over and double-check that it'll do what I need it to. Thanks! :>
  4. Yes, I do hope to run cable to all of the rooms for that reason come spring-time, when I take out some dry-wall and add insulation anyway. For now I would like to be able to access the network throughout the house - would there be a conflict if I set up two access points, one upstairs and one downstairs? Would it be possible to mimic a mesh network where devices could hop between the two or would we have to manually switch? Would like to avoid spending on the actual dedicated mesh hardware like the Orbi's or Eero if I can get close enough to the same effect. I'll have to see if the Ubiquiti ones I was looking at are mesh capable.
  5. Don't mean to bump an old thread. Just wanted to thank everyone for the solid recommendations! Had an unexpected family illness that came out of nowhere, threw all plans out of whack. Situation is better now. I've noted all your suggestions and look forward to the Christmas sale. Thanks a lot everyone :>
  6. Medium-ish knowledge level when it comes to networking. We've bought our first house but are upgrading to business-tier internet to waive the data-cap. I'm hoping to buy a modem (to save on the monthly rental fee) and build out the start of an eventual server closet. Down the line I'd like to have a dedicated Plex server and host some files / maybe a web domain or two off static IPs. Right now my goal is to get the best signal possible for the house. I'd watched a youtube video about pairing an EdgeRouter X and Unify Ubiquiti Access point. I like that the Edgerouter X seems to have a robust feature set including SQM to prevent lag spikes from sudden local network congestion. Feels like it's a Router that could scale with my plans. I've never used a router other than something with built in access point, though. Would I be able to add more Ubiquiti Access Points throughout the house later when I run cable through the walls? Do I need to be looking specifically at Mesh Network hardware to do something like that? I get the theory and basics of networking but my knowledge breaks down on trying to expand the network. It's a three story cinderblock house, a lot of thick walls. I'd like to saturate with the best signal possible, not sure what the best/economical way to do that is. Help. All modem/router/AP setup recommendations are welcome here :>
  7. I've just bought my first home and my girlfriend and her six year old son have moved in. Most of my time is going into renovating the house and helping to raise my new fella. I used to love story-heavy games (Witcher, Prey, Deus Ex), Tactical Shooter/Milsims, or Exploration Heavy games, but in the past few months haven't had the time to sit and play anything for more than 20-30 minutes at a time. There's a Steam sale on and I'd like to find a few new games to love in short bursts. Would appreciate suggestions :>
