so i bought a bunch of used parts to build a computer. i got it up and running with windows and drivers installed and running stable (i even had firestrike extreme running). i didnt connect the front audio header as it wasnt a standard connection so i decided to turn off the computer and take a look. i didnt get any big changes and decided to just plug it back in and run some more tests. now it wont post. ive disconnected the graphics card, put two sticks, then one, then a completely new set of 100% functioning ram in, disconnected the hdd, changed the power supply, disconnect all fans, change the battery on the motherboard (the guy told me to try to remove it and put it back in if it isnt working which was an immediate red flag for me but i chose to ignore it). in the process of all this it posted like 5 out of 100+ attempts then it shows " PXE-E61 Media Test Failure " which i assume was just because of the fact that the hard-drive was one of the first things i always disconnected. i always mentally kept track of things that i did to try and get it to post and it would always post to me doing something different to the computer. it was never the same or consistent in anyway. the only two things i havent changed out for new parts are the motherboard and the cpu and need to know which one has the problem. my guess is the motherboard.

How are you turning on the computer?

A power button or bridging the two pins with a screwdriver?

Do fans turn on when you do this?

    Move to different sub-forum? @Ryan_Vickers

  4. The awaited GTX 1080 Ti is to be released at CES in January next year, and will be more powerful than the Titan XP.

    Quote

The GTX 1080 Ti reported features specs of 3,328 CUDA cores and also 12 GB GDDR5X. The boost clock can also reach 1,623 MHz

    Compared to GTX 1080

This is 1.5x the GDDR5X of the GTX 1080

Although it has a lower boost clock than the GTX 1080, it has 1.3x CUDA cores

    Compared to GTX Titan XP

The same amount of GDDR5X as the Titan XP

93% the amount of CUDA cores as the Titan XP

1.1x the boost clock of the Titan XP

    Quote

The GTX 1080 is priced at around $600 while the Titan X is about $1,200. The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, meanwhile, is expected to hover around the $800 level.

    CPU: think

You never know how long components will last, that's why you take care of what you have while you have it.

    CPU: Think what?

Yes, i know these components won't last that long; the world changes a lot in 15 years, and Moore's Law says that the changing will speed up as well.

I googled bridging the power switch pins with a screwdriver, and when I did, the two fans on my GPU moved for a second and stopped immediately.

Something could possibly be shorting out (in all actuality I've got no idea)

Building it on the mobo box is good.

I'm sorry. I'm brand new to this pc building thing. What does you mean by using a screwdriver? And I have not tested it outside my pc case

Take it out of the case and try building it on the Mobo box.

When you don't have the power switch connected bridging those pins for a second will turn it on. I just like screwdrivers.

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS through VirtualBox on my Asus UX303UB Laptop, the specs are as follows:

    i7-6500U

    GTX940M 2GB

    12GB RAM

    512GB SSD

    Windows 10

    3200x1800 Display

However, it is running at an unusable pace, with simple dragging of windows chopping along the screen and text appearing seconds later.

    Anyone familiar with this issue?

How powerful is the virtual machine?

Assuming that the triangle is the positive, I think I put it in the right stop.

It goes PLED +, PLED -, Power SW +, Power SW - on the top
and on the bottom, I have my HDDLED +, HDDLED -

    Screenshot (6).png

Try bridging the power switch pins with a screwdriver.

Also, did it work when you tested it outside of the case?

    Howdy All,

I watched the three videos Linus put out on the multi-gamer 1 box and was inspired to do something like this on my own. I remember the glory days of hauling your machine over to a friends place to stay up late with some buddies and play video games till the wee hours of the morning. Unfortunately we all grew up, got jobs, wives, and a bunch of other things that make that sort of thing and impossibility these days. So i thought, what if I could build a machine for a reasonable amount of money that could allow me and three friends to all play games together and online with one machine. People show up for 2-3 hours, play some games, and then head home. What initially sparked my interest was an article from tech spot http://www.techspot.com/review/1155-affordable-dual-xeon-pc/ that talked about a dual cpu machine capable of rendering and playing modern games with the best of them, but doing it for a cheaper price than brand spanking new stuff. So i thought taking the articles advice and using 2x E5-2670s (SR0KX). They are around 100 bucks CAD on ebay and seem like a good deal at the moment. I figured with two of those as a beginning It would be a good place to start. However, I have never build a machine like this and we are way outside of my knowledge base when it comes to parts compatibility with virtualization in mind. So i figured I would turn to you fine folks to give me a hand with this sort of thing.

    Here are the requirements:

I want a machine capable of running 4 instance of windows, so me and some buddies can all play games together, online, and with each other, usb headsets and all. I am looking at doing all the blizzard games at 1080p 60 on High settings and the rest of modern games at 1080p 60 on Medium settings, nothing fancy, just get the job done. I also want this build to include monitors, keyboards, mice, and headsets, nothing super awesome, just functional. I figure a good starting place would be 2x E5-2670s (SR0KX), but who knows, I could be way off base here. Now the real deal is I want to try to do this with a 1500-2000 CAD budget.I know that'd gonna be the hard part. I would love to hear what you guys have to say and what you would recommend. If you can't squeeze the monitors and accessories in with your suggestions, no big deal, but I would love to try and get everything for no more than 2000 CAD.

Once we get all the details hammered out, Ill do a build summary, takes some pictures, maybe the odd video. So you all can see your handy work.

Thanks Everyone and I appreciate your time,

    Frank

P.S. I live in British Columbia and have a preference using NCIX, but I will use whatever.

    Don't

CPU: I don't exactly know how to figure out if a CPU will bottleneck or not, I ain't that good :P

Memory: I've added an extra 16 GB of RAM btw

Headphones: I've removed the headphones and got the Turtle Beach STEALTH 450 and the Audio Technica AT2020+ microphone.

Mobo: I've explained my reasons, I am not against it, I just do not prefer it.

How does listing things that existed 15 years ago relevant to this post?

CPU: That CPU will bottleneck the GPU I think

Look at how much change has occurred in the last 10-15 years, your computer will not last "10-15 years"

So since oculus rift has been recently released in the UK and it's cheaper than the HTC vive, I want to know which one is the overall better headset. The oculus is £200 cheaper than the vive, but it lacks the motion controls. Can someone who has tried both headsets tell me which one is worth my money? thanks!

Vive is better if you have space.

    HI,

I am a student in the UK with a bit of money to spend, I am looking for the better than necessary PC with a little flair, firstly I should say the budget I have about £2000 which is quite a lot   and is not set in stone I have a lot of leeway but this does include the cost of two monitors which i will refer to later , secondly why am I here I need help I am really struggling amazingly to find the components for my all blue themed build, I do know roughly what i want firstly the most important component the GPU i was looking at a GTX 1070 with a i7-6700K the next thing is the case I know I want something very much like a Prodigy M case with the window. after this I have no idea of course the prodigy M is a micro ATX case and i can't really find the correct mother board any suggestions for the rest of the components would be fantastic. for the screens I am looking at quite a weird set up firstly a ultrawide screen, secondly a 40+" HD TV I like this to be a little higher end cos I love that color depth and lots of richness rather than 4k or low latency, I do play some competitive games but nothing that demands low latency. any specific suggestions or comments would be much appreciated thank you. :)

What are you going to be using this computer for?

also, please don't go for a TV as a monitor
