  1. I really don't care lol. I already have a Celeron PC that does not work that I bought for the same price. BUT I got a good 500W and a case out of it, so multiply that by 8
  2. Will update and bring pictures once I have them here. All I have recognized is a Foxconn MoBo driver CD lol. I should mention that she got them for 15.73 and is giving them to me for the exact same price, plus a homemade pizza.
  3. I am about to pick up 8 PC towers from a friend who got them for 15.73 USD (500UYU)... She doesn't know if they are all full or not, but hey even just the 8 cases should cost more than that. She knows one of them was not touched, but doesn't know if it works. I am hyped. They are from an old company that closed down btw Hence the price
  4. Hey, so I asked a friend that knows a lot about this stuff. He said something along these lines (please note he knows much better what I want it for exactly): "For a laptop by the way - you want one that's fast and doesn't have a GPU in it. You have a gaming desktop, and laptops won't even come close to touching that in terms of performance and ease of use. Gaming laptops are also expensive and they drain the battery very quickly. That combined with the fact that Skylake processors have powerful enough integrated graphics for the games you typically play means there's no reason to justify it."
  5. That is a valid option, yes. Only issue is that I might get scammed lol, since I won't be able to see it until it gets home... And at that point i cannot send it back.
  6. Just for some extra information. I used to have a Lenovo G575 that died on me after 4 years of use. It was decent. I just want something better. That one costed me 700 dollars at the time, but I bet it now costs a lot less.
  7. Hm.. That is an interesting thing I didn't know about. Not that I know much. But thanks
  8. It HAS to be a laptop, because I already have a desktop. Plan is to be able to not be forced to record just in my room, to be able to record/edit audio at school or other places.
  9. Not a huge fan of Linux, but it might work.. maybe
  10. I actually have someone going over to NC around june or so. I plan to have them bring it to me.
  11. So... I kinda want a laptop for audio editing, nothing crazy, I just want it to be able to run audio recording/editing software well, and maybe a few streaming apps like Skype or Mixlr. All I would want it to specifically have is upgradable RAM since that would help with running multiple programs/tabs. According to my mother, who knows nothing about this stuff, it has to be under US$250 which I think is stupidly low... I might be able to find ways to raise my budget a bit but we shall see. Her laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15 and it works... okay. But it costed around 400 dollars. So yeah any recommendations would be appreciated. Even if someone finds a laptop that has nothing useful but can be upgraded, I might take a look at it (For instance, used laptops or something). Meanwhile, I will be on the lookout myself lol.
  12. Not an expert, but that MoBo looks a bit old-ish.. I wonder if there are better ones for a similar price.
  13. I am not expecting any money out of it Profit? Yes, but as capital, not money. Just sort of, say, sell it for 10 bucks more than I spent. And with those 10 bucks go for something slightly better, and maybe sell it for 15 extra, and so on. It would not make much difference at the start, and I am sure as hell doing this as a hobby, but it does show some promise for the future if I can pull it off at least once.
  14. Yep that's my main advantage, the lack of competition.
  15. Hello. I have been planning, for a while now, to start a very vague business plan, almost a hobby at the start, but it might become serious work if I succeed. The plan is to build PC's sort of the way that Free Geek does it, but on a one-person scale. I have a few friends who have outdated/broken set ups and are willing to give/sell them to me for cheap, plus my mother is a teacher and the school she works at just happened to receive a load of computer parts from a company that closed down. I plan to start small, selling the computers for as low as I can, and getting small profit each time to make my budget slowly grow. If that worked, at some point I would be getting more money than I spend on hardware/OS and use that extra money for myself. 1. Budget & Location For now, I have no real budget. I do plan to get as much stuff for free as I can. I might have to spend 100 dollars or so on my first computer (I am guessing) because of the OS or some other stuff, but I am hoping to keep it as low as possible. I live in Uruguay, and usually imported products are expensive (Say, the headset I have, I bought it in a trip to the US for 40 dollars on bestbuy. Here, it costs 100.) But I have been helping this PC repair/selling store and the owner is willing to help me out by getting me contacts with the importing companies and stuff. 2. Aim I plan to make my first PC focus on web browsing, which is what average people do mostly nowadays. That means (From my limited knowledge for lack of experience) that I will need some RAM power, and connection speed capabilities, but I am willing to listen to anyone who knows better than me. 3. Monitors/4. Peripherals I haven't yet decided if I want to sell a full package or just a tower, so I will leave that up to whatever ends up happening lol. One thing to take into account is that, since it's a business, people might want warranty on the products, and that I cannot give. But I might be able to make good deals if they are willing to give it up lol.
  16. Can you send a pic of it? I think I know the issue. I had it on my mother's laptop a couple days ago.
  17. Hey, I was gonna sell it to a friend, but the zero fill is not really needed. The data I had was nothing private or illegal lol. If they want access to it, they will find memes, music and games pretty much. Anyway, thank you for your help
  18. Hey, I actually am gonna use it on a PC that I might or might not sell, so I will look into it if I have the time. Otherwise, it's no big deal. As long as it can be overwritten I have no trouble with the data "Being there" Thank you
  19. Here is a second issue. It has a recovery partition... OEM stuff that I don't know about. I suppose I can't delete that one. But what do I do with the unallocated space I got? Create a single volume with all the space left and bam?
  20. I want to wipe this Lenovo WD Scorpio Blue and have its partitions and stuff removed. Anyone got a detailed guide for a software noob? I am pretty sure from what I found here http://smallbusiness.chron.com/unpartition-hard-drive-54094.html That I have to just right click each partition in the manager and press "Remove volume" but I don't want to mess it up. The quicker the reply, the quicker I can get to clean it up and be able to connect my actual HDD back on my PC lol
