  1. Thank you Spetz! Clarification on my part. I didn't use a case on the second attempt with a new motherboard - I built it on top of the motherboard box. Could the first attempt have damaged some other component? Maybe the CPU? I'll investigate the old motherboard and case and see if I can find if it makes contact somewhere it's not supposed to.
  2. Hey there! Sorry if this thread already exists but I can't find it. I'm building a PC and I can't get it to post. Attempt 1. In my first attempt, I had an Asrock H97M motherboard with an Intel i7-4790 processor (Socket 1150), BeQuiet! BK008 Pure Rock Slim CPU Cooler, 16GB RAM, and a Corsair CX750m power supply - all worked fine in a previous build I had in a different case. I transferred the contents to a new case and couldn't get it to boot. The fans wouldn't even spin up. It's like it was not even receiving power. Between separate post attempts, I checked all connections in the pc, checked that the RAM was seated properly, reseated the Processor and CPU cooler, then tried removing one component at a time (Hard drive/graphics card/fans/etc.) to try and identify a faulty part - no luck. Didn't see any bent or broken pins on the CPU. Tried booting without a CPU cooler in case it was mounting pressure. Tried a different power supply I had lying around. Checked that all of the front I/O plugs were in the correct positions. (That user manual was hard to find =p) Tried removing one RAM stick at a time to see if I had a dead one. All nothing. Put everything back together again, and on power up I heard a pop and saw smoke from the motherboard... Dx Attempt 2. It seemed pretty obvious to me at that point that the motherboard was probably dead. I ordered a new one - ASUS B85M-G - and tried that one. I took every precaution I could this time and did a test build on top of the motherboard box and made sure I was properly grounded and not staticky. All the same other hardware as before. On the first try it posted. Heard a beep, fans spun up, and I got a screen with an error... I forgot to plug the power into the graphics card *Face palm*. shut down, plugged it in and tried again. Nothing. Removed the graphics card and tried the onboard HDMI port. Nothing. Put the graphics card back in and tried again. Nothing. Then I replaced the power supply again with another backup I had. Nothing. Once again checked RAM and front I/O connections... You guessed it. Nothing. And when I say "nothing" I mean no beeps, no fans, and no indication that the board is even getting power. At this point I'm afraid to tinker with it any more for fear I have already or will break something else. Any thoughts on where I can go from here? What component might be causing the problems? Aside from the operating nut (Myself) haha. Thanks in advance! UPDATE: I tested the power supply by jumping the green and black wires. It powers on just fine.
