Hello all, so there a bit of a back story here, I originally just wanted to wipe my drives to clear the clutter on my PC. Once I did reset, I booted the PC and I was at my login screen. However I was not able to log in because the computer could not find my account. So I took the measure to go into the command prompt and format my 2 drives to NTFS. I have a thumb drive with the Windows 10 media creation tool but when I set it to the boot prio, I get sent back into bios where I have been trapped since I formatted the 2 drives. How do I make my computer boot off the drive?

I am building a PC for a friend of mine who doesn't know much about them, but loves to game of course. The budget is 2K with a need for a whole new system, keyboard, and monitor to fit into that budget. I am really excited to build something with the new 3070 GPU but I'm not sure which mobo and CPU to pair with the new gen of GPU to squeeze all that juicy performance out of it. A friend of mine mentioned that the AMD CPU's have a technology that the Intel ones don't yet, and they have a much better price to performance ratio. I have heard that the newer mobo's have PCI-E 4 which the new GPU series takes advantage of, but which is suggested to pair with it? Planning on taking this person to the world of 1440p at 144hz from the 1080p that she is used to. Thank you!

I was given a Razer Tournament edition headset for helping my friend out building his rig. The aux chord is integrated so I can't just replace it and be done unfortunately. He ripped the aux out from the bottom end of the volume control board, but the board isn't damaged. I'm not sure which wire to use and solder on to fix this. I have an extra 4 conductor wire that I can use. I am also unsure of where to solder the wire on the board since I cant find a diagram when I look up the board part number. Thanks for reading!

couldn't it be the ram being damaged?

I recently took apart my computer to do a thorough cleaning and improvement on my cable management. After I put my computer back together I got in any game and soon after starting it would crash, this escalated to getting the BSoD quite frequently even when I was only trying to log into windows. The error codes on the BSoD were always changing each time and this became a cycle of restarting until I turned off the computer. I tried taking my hardware out to localize the problem but nothing worked, not even reseating my cpu, gpu, ram, or taking out all my power connections and cleaning and putting them back in. I even did a factory reset on windows. killing all of my previous files. I found that once I turned off my OC that it fixed the problem, but once I turned it back on the BSoD persisted, I've used OC on this rig for a while but this is a new issue. I have just recently started using prime 95 as was recommended to me in an earlier thread. When I am not overclocking my cpu I can run it for a complete 12 hours and not have an issue. however once I start OCing things change. The smallest FFTs has no issues but once I use small and large FFts I get the hardware failure detected. The blending test does cause the failure as well. What does this mean? ok, so how should I go about fixing an unstable OC?

yes It's only when I'm overclocking, so what should I look for to see if it is an unstable OC? would taking the computer apart and putting it back together really cause that?

I have reseated the memory several times, could the memory be damaged and only react when I am overclocking?

I just took my PC apart to clean and improve cable management, now that I have it back together it's crashing after being in game for a min or two. This problem doesn't occur when I am watching anything on YouTube or am using any benchmark software, only once I start up a game. I tried taking my cpu cooler, ram, and gpu off and put it back on but the problem persists. The problem isn't bound to one game or launching software either. My cpu has been a bit wacky as well, some times the cpu usage will skyrocket and the fans will rev up and then it'll come back down. why did this happen?

I generally play Overwatch on my pc but when I built my pc I was misinformed when I thought that my i5 6600k would make the cut. I am peaking at 90% usage on my cpu and am only getting around 90 to 110 frames. I've got a 1070 GPU that is not passing the 35% usage mark and 16 gigs of ram that is never more than at a 50% load.. What cpu should I upgrade to so I can get my full 144hz that my monitor is capable of? Or is there a way to get more out of my cpu besides overclocking, because the overclocking doesn't ever give it more than maybe 10 extra frames. I am wanting to be able to run max settings on OW and other blizzard games. Also my overclocking has been a bit weird lately, when I tell it to OC in BIOS, the loading screen that used to tell me that it's at 23% under the asus logo doesnt pop up any more and I don't know what too look for to see if my cpu is really overclocked. I have cpuz but I'm not sure what wil tell me if i'm overclocked or not.

which ones are which? I haven't removed anything but where the fans were connected to the cable that had 3 spots to connect them with. everything else is as it came stock

Ok, so I'll get windows booted and download that software to find out if that's the issue, which I hope it is.

I have an NZXT H710i that is powered by an EVGA 1000G3 that I got for free, the case fans are plugged into the smart controller as they were before I unplugged them when i was moving them but they aren't working. I havnt downloaded windows yet so I don't know if I should have software or drivers to make them work. So potential changes to this list would be going with air cool and anything else? I am wanting to keep it 1080p

Is that monitor good? I thought that 1080p would be the best bang for buck in making a consistent 144hz on ultra settings. Also there needs to be a mouse and the keyboard will most likely be razers new version of the blackwidow chroma. also will an air cooler really be able to keep up? arent the water coolers a much safer option?

He mainly plays overwatch, this build may be a bit over powered and I totally understand that but I am wanting to make sure that he can take advantage of the 144hz on max settings 24/7
