  1. Looking for a tablet for a relative - their main use case would be using it for WeChat video calls back to folks in HK, and I would also be setting it up for some Tuya-based IoT devices (mostly security cameras and lights at the moment). If it matters any for the latter, their ISP is Bell using the supplied HH3000 modem. I haven't really kept up with tablet hardware so I don't have any inkling on what's good or not - never really followed mobile hardware news. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Currently, I saw this Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022 model) with average reviews that's on sale at BestBuy for $280 CAD that seems like it might be suitable? Edit: Update, I ended up going with the Tab S6 Lite and they've been happy with the product so far.
  2. My bad! I don't really use the forum enough to know their SNs or even the right person to tag so I just scrolled up until I saw a mod account which happened to be yours.
  3. After watching the latest ShortCircuit video about the Gulikit Joysticks, I was checking out listings on Amazon and happened to notice that this listing seems to be using an excerpt from an LTT video ft. Alex: https://www.amazon.ca/Drifting-Electromagnetic-Thumbstick-AKNES-Replacement/dp/B0B31STJDH/ I suspect that they've not actually got the rights to use the content? The video snippet isn't anything deceptive since they it's just Alex explaining about using the product, and it hasn't been edited to seem like it's promoting the particular product, but maybe a mod like @LogicalDrm should let an LTT staff member know just in case.
  4. Yeah, I'll make sure to let the folks know about that - I don't think they actively use Anker's webcam software (AnkerWork), but I now recall that I did installed it on their systems to update firmware and stuff during initial setup. Thanks for bringing this up! I forgot about this until your message. I know, but Anker's webcam software does turn the webcam on and connect online for updates, so with the recent revelations is it really unreasonable to think that it might be doing more than that, even putting aside that it's probably collecting telemetry data? That's why I asked - I would rather be safe than sorry.
  5. Would anyone happen to know whether the products affected by the Eufy privacy issue extends to Anker-branded products like their webcams? My Google-fu is weak and all I can find is mention of Eufy's devices but no explicit confirmation if it also affects things like Anker's named line of products. I had set up a few family and friends with Anker's PowerConf C300 webcam in the past year and it is going to be a PITA to have to replace them all. I suppose I should replace them regardless even if there hasn't been an explicit confirmation that it extends to Anker-branded stuff, but it'd be nice to know so I can figure out how urgent I should be getting on this matter.
  6. Anyone know where to get those metal enclosures for batteries at 6:34? Looking to get something similar for my e-Bike's battery storage in the winter months.
  7. The case's type C port will be unusable with that motherboard since it doesn't have a USB 3.2 Gen 2 header according to PCPP and from what I could see in the manual. Is there an adapter to convert the motherboard's USB 3.1 Gen 1 header for use with the front panel connector? I tried searching and found this, is something like that what I need? I've never really seen this before...
  8. Fortunately, I've actually already got the 3070 Ti from a Best Buy drop a few days ago! The P400A that you suggested for the case won't be ideal though since I would appreciate having a USB type-C on the front I/O. Especially since the motherboard you suggested has the type C header on it for use with such a case - I might end up choosing that motherboard though so super thanks for that suggestion!
  9. Thanks for the response! Follow-up question about the RAM: In some of my use case scenarios, a colleague of mine doing the same stuff got 10-20% more performance upgrading from 3200 to 3600, which is why I initially chose a 3600 speed one, but in her case both sets were CL16 which is why I asked about the CL18 difference. In my Google searching, I'm getting a mixed bag of answers that the difference regarding CL is negligible, or that speed matters more in real-world practice. The PCPP list was made a while ago and I just noticed that there's a 3600 set (but CL18) for just $10 more than the one you suggested so would that be worth it? I'm thinking yes but the uncertainty about the CL makes me hesitant.
  10. Budget (including currency): $2400 CAD Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Modern AAA Gaming at 1440p, at least 60 FPS at ultra or higher/max settings; Programming (Health Informatics i.e. datasets and data processing) Other details: My current selection on PCPartPicker: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/JKNT2V The parts listed at $0 are things I'm reusing from my old build. The PSU (Corsair AX860 non-i version) being reused is 8 years old, should I be concerned about reusing this? It is/was one of their premium 80+ platinum offerings from back in the day... RAM choice was just me choosing something on the motherboard's QVL so I can hopefully reach the RAM specs. During browsing I did see some other choices that is CL16 instead of CL18 for like $20-40 more, would that be worthwhile? Motherboard choice was mainly USB ports considerations (and BIOS flashback in case for the CPU) Case choice is flexible - I'm going for something more silent; hence I just chose the P600s since it has fairly good reviews, has a USB-C port, has a GPU anti-sag bracket, has included HDD brackets for my 3.5" drives (I only listed 2 HDDs in the PCPP link but I'm debating whether to keep or retire another WD Black that I'm currently using Thanks for any suggestions all!
  11. Are there any differences that a Cat 8 keystone jack has compared to the other categories? Context: My neighbours are doing renovations and got upsold on some Cat 8 cable and later asked me for help with network stuff since I'm "the guy in the neighbour who knows computers". I've never worked with Cat 8 before and while Google shows that the cables themselves are different I'm not finding much info about the corresponding keystone jacks. Just want to know whether my neighbours will have to get specific jacks. Appreciate any help, all!
  12. I'd gift an Asus Zenfone 2 to my mom. My mom is still using a Huawei U1250 and it'd be a really nice replacement. She's only ever been able to use that phone for voice calls because she found the navigation designs clunky and difficult to learn. She's been meaning to learn how to use computers/new tech and I feel that a recent smartphone would be conducive to her learning. I hyperlinked the phone name above but here's the full link in plain-text: http://www.amazon.com/ZenFone-Unlocked-Cellphone-Black-Warranty/dp/B00VWKKEYO/ Thanks for hosting awesome contests and giveaways, LMG crew!
  13. Unfortunately, the Nexus 5 doesn't appear to have expandable storage. Thanks for the suggestion anyway, however.
  14. Hey all, After 5 years my HTC Desire Z finally kicked the can so I'm looking for a new Android phone that's preferably sub or around $300 (CAD) before taxes. I haven't been following the mobile phone hardware scene at all so I'll be needing some advice. The following criteria should be good guidelines for anyone offering any input to what I'm looking for: I don't game much nor do anything intensive like that so I surmise I wouldn't need any particularly powerful processors/chipsets nor a lot of RAM. Any recreational activities that I do would mainly just be watching videos or listening to music, however, speaker quality is irrelevant as I always use my own earphones or headphones. Regarding camera options, it'd be nice to have it as good as can be since I enjoy taking pictures of my gardening and the occasional video. E.g.13 MP, 1080p, etc. Expandable storage; e.g. microSD slot supporting up to 64 or 128 GB. Internal memory doesn't need to be high, I don't download many apps, etc. Around 16 GB or even 8 GB would probably be fine Stock Android feel is ideal; or as long as the UI is simple anyway. Minimal bloatware too, if possible. PS, I'm on Rogers' infrastructure so I don't know if being nitpicky about stuff like GSM or CDMA still matters. Thanks for any advice, everyone!
  15. Since those are priced relatively the same, cost-aside, which would then be the most favoured? Or did you already mean that. As for the Sony MDR1R that others mentioned in here, all I'm finding are pricing ranging at $210+ which is sort of what I wanted to avoid so I don't think I'll be opting for that as the gift. I remembered that my pal used an ASUS Vulcan ANC headset (sans mic) and so I suppose whichever of the above's fit comes close to that would be best.
