The AG1 ad on WAN show caught me off guard.  Not you too!  I hope AG1 paid out the nose for that segment. Linus said a while back that there wouldn't be ads for supplements, but I guess that ban is lifted now?  Lets just ignore that there are reports of AG1 containing lead, reports of people having severe side effects, and pretty much no scientific evidence to back up any of the efficacy claims.  I remember when Linus threw a fit over Vessi wanting LTT to call their shoes waterproof, but now he's willing to just shill for some scam supplement company when there's a whole host of studies saying there's no evidence into the efficacy of products like AG1?  I really really hope this was just something that slipped through the cracks.

thar sounds very much like its not mounted correctly or you are using too little thermal paste.
If the cooler would be broken you would overheat in a few minutes and could never sustain a high clock.

Im only running a 5800X but my temps are way lower and im only using air cooling.

i would recommend you post pictures how the rad and cooler is mounted, then remove the cooler again and post a picture of how the thermalpaste is squished.

sorry to bother with this again but another 2 months have passed and now all sizes of the short circuit and WAN sweatpants are sold out.
any news on a restock for any of these?

the only way to get more clearance would be either a different cooler or a PCIe riser and mounting the card somewhere else.
running the 10G card in the 1x slot would most likely not work or severely limit your performance.

Pixel5 got a reaction from Kilrah in Why does LTT take so much time?
you are coming to the wrong conclusion here.
that this video was filmed weeks ago means its good planning on their side to do thing as early as possible and have time for all the steps in between or to simply have a video ready to go so you can release it when another video needs more time.
if your youtube channel constantly shoots and released a video the same day that either means its a news channel where being as close as possible to real time is important or it means you cant plan at all and are doing too much for the work force you have available.

having a buffer of videos is very important for a youtube channel.

Pixel5 got a reaction from mineblaster in What kind of hardware do i need for a plex server with 10 users
if you got a plex pass the obvious solution would be to simply swap to a CPU that has an iGPU like the 10400 or even just an 10100

both will transcode over 20 1080p streams at the same time easily.

Pixel5 got a reaction from Sprawlie in Unraid Server High Power Consumption
you dont really need 2000€ when you build a purpose made system instead of trying to do everything with one inefficient system.

an i3 10100 cost less then 100€ a motherboard also less then 100€ 16GB RAM can be had for 50€ and a case is somewhere between 50 - 100€ depending on what you want.

This system would easily handle plex, all normal NAS functions and even one VM easily.
That would mean you can use the current and inefficient system for everything else and only start it when you need it.

Pixel5 got a reaction from Electronics Wizardy in Need advice in building Terminals to connect to a VM server
is there a specific reason why you wanna virtualize this?

with such a low number of systems the big advantage of going for VM´s which is only having to update and maintain one place basically fades away as you can easily maintain these systems with one person completely manually if needs be.

also the system you would need for 10 VM´s would cost a lot and you still need terminals at which point you may as well just build simple office PC´s and run everything locally.

full transcode 5 4k streams without dropping frames at around 85% load on the iGPU so yea only works with hardware transcoding.

both of these fit well into you not caring about power consumption as these are crazy power hogs but they will also sound like a jet engine constantly so its not really what you wanna get.

Also a minecraft server cares a lot more about single core performance then having many cores so getting any more modern CPU with less cores is not only going to be quieter but its also going to provide you much better performance for your server.

Pixel5 got a reaction from paddy-stone in What to buy as second file server?
77W is very bad if its just a simple file server considering you can get the same performance from an i3 10100 which will have a total system idle consumption under 20W

if electricity is expensive where OP lives this is a big deal, for me this 57W higher idle power consumption would cost me ~143€ per year in electricity.
thats basically almost the price of an i3 10100 and a motherboard.

Pixel5 got a reaction from TechnicalInternal in What to buy as second file server?
is electricity cheap in your area?

because as a simple file server i would never ever even consider getting an old work station simply due to the high power usage of these systems.

honestly for an i3 build there is not much to it, an i3 10100 of 10100F if you dont ever need the iGPU but i think they even cost the same.
any motherboard of the form factor you want in any case you want with as much RAM as you want but keep in mind you only need 2666mhz RAM as the CPU doesnt support more.

If you need more then 6 SATA ports you gonna need an HBA and if you want to use both NVME slots that the 1200 platform offers you you gonna lose one of that SATA ports.
Going with an i3 system is super simple it basically all depends on your preferences.
  23. Informative
Pixel5 got a reaction from TechnicalInternal in What to buy as second file server?
yes that looks like a good idea and you wont even need the HBA when you only use 6 SATA ports.

But i would also recommend to get rid of some of your super low capacity drives and get another 8TB drive as you ill throw away so much storage just because you dont have another 8TB drive.

Pixel5 got a reaction from Philip Pomeroy in Which basic NAS should I use as a cloud?
if you want something simple you probably wanna use Synology but be aware depending on how much storage you are looking for it may still be cheaper to take a could storage provider instead.

Pixel5 got a reaction from aqarwaen29 in why cant gpus be socketed like cpus
yes that would certainly be possible and there was a time when something like this existed for laptops but the big problem here is that a GPU needs a massive power delivery a massive cooling solution and on top of that super fast memory that also needs to be actively cooled.

in the end it would be nearly impossible to design a socket and PCB that would work for all kinds of GPU´s and you could end up with stupid stuff like having a 3090 chip but then maybe you only put in slow memory that slows down your GPU a ton.

there would simply be no advantage at all to make a GPU socketed.
