I personally think that both options have their merits (I use a Samsung A5 on KitKat for work, and iPhone 6 for personal), but I'll personally continue to use Apple mobility products as I love their rugged durability and consistent capability to deliver power and sufficient battery life.

This is incorrect. Blu-ray drives that can read DVDs and CDs have access to the different lasers in order to perform the function.
 
So to answer the question posed by the OP, no. The bluish lasers cannot be used to read DVDs or CDs.

I thought this was a dumb question at first. Then I thought about it and now you have me actually thinking about this. Blu-Ray can read both.

No point in disabling it. Not a single point, maybe lowering brightness and CPU core by messing around with some power settings would help though.

Honestly, you might just want to stick with HDMI. VGA is an analog signal and is really seen as a poor choice in general as far as video is concerned.

Wait, What if this all flunks out and no major games come out for it? or at least support it? I imagine since this will probably stick there will be cheaper headsets to come. This technology although the idea is old, actually making this technology on this level is quite new. Eventually this might become more mainstream and by then it'll be much, much cheaper. I'm really hoping the release of the vive comes along with my suspicions that it'll come out alongside HL3, but that's opinion and off topic. Unless you have $600+ dollars burning a hole in your pocket for whatever reason then well... if you really want it go for it, otherwise wait

Expensive ones normally have gold plating which would make the cable last longer overall, but unless you keep switching it from devices..no. It really isn't.

Intel if you want overall more performance and amd since their more cpus are pretty budget friendly. If you're on a budget and want an intel cpu I recommend an i5-4460.

Well it might help to know if you're on windows or mac. I'm guessing windows, but you never know.
