  1. Hi guys, thank you for your reply. A Intel Xeon E3 and a Intel I5 are still expensive. Meanwhile a friend of mine helped me with the search and we find out these: CPU: Intel Core i3-4150 (113,30€) RAM: DDR3 Corsair Vengeance Pro 1600MHz 32GB (4x8GB) CL9 1.5V (154,90€) MOBO: Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H (82,70€) HDD: Seagate NAS HDD 4TB 3.5" 64MB 5900RPM SATA3 (139,30€ x 4) This mobo also supports raid so my idea is to start with raid 5. With all this stuff we are over 900€ and PSU and case are still missing! Now we can't find a case which is suitable for a nas / server. What do you think about our choose? Bye!
  2. Hi guys, I was thinking about the idea to buy a nas, but since I've never built a computer before, actually building a server should be more "educational". So I'm asking your help to look for a cheap cpu and a cheap motherboard to build my first server. Budget: It's about 600/700€ for all the server. And I'm going to buy more hdd in the future. Hardware I thought: - 1x 120GB SSD (I already have it) that I can use for the OS. --> 0€ - 2x 4TB WD RED HDD --> 170€ x 2 - An Intel Xeon CPU (but which one?) What I use it for: - store movies, photos, music - access it from a smart TV - probably plugin an IPcam - put online some little websites, or test virtual machine and so on.. What do you suggest me for these purposes? Which CPU, MB, PSU, Case, RAM, OS should I use? Hope to talk with you sooner. Sorry for my bad english and thank you everybody. Richard.
