  1. Thanks! And yeah, I have the system already. About to install TrueNAS to a small SSD I have and use the HDD as the backup
  2. Budget (including currency): Unlimited (up to $100 tbh) Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: TrueNas Mainly just want some pointers on building a new TrueNAS system. Im brand new to all this so if there's any tips/tricks you could tell me, please do! Basically, I just want something to perform backups that are not on my main rig. I have all my super pertinent files on Google drive and I have a BackBlaze subscription, but that's hardly the 123 rules. Specs: 3rd gen i5, 16GB DDR3 RAM, 3TB WD Red drive (1). Might add another drive later. Thanks!
  3. Not sure if this will get lock or not, but just wanted to say in general that even though things are rough right now, we do appreciate you guys a lot. I've been watching you guys since 2014, and I've got to say that y'all have really gotten me into the PC game. Every company has it's moments, and this one will pass just like the rest of them. I personally really owe you guys a lot and I know a lot of other people on the forum feel similarly. I really hope things get better for y'all soon. -NS
  4. I agree, people should be called out when they screw up this bad. BUT GN just did something they tried to call linus on, which is what I find…. Interesting.
  5. Taking a SUPER zoomed out view here, because there are arguments on both sides that are completely accurate and valid, and others that are insanely out of touch. The main problem is that LMG is a corporation, and the ‘trust me bro’ moniker had a LOT more corporate implications than LMG probably wants to accept. Heck even I felt like a consumer instead of having a relationship with the youtuber when that statement was said (or having a relational ‘feel’ if ykwim). At a business, personal stuff is left at the door. In a corporation, if you can’t eat the negativity that was shown, EVEN IF THE POINT WAS VALID, then you need to back off. Watching some of the past few floatplane BTS’s kinda show there’s a fast-paced work environment, which can be a sign of an unhealthy environment. Like seriously, everyone getting up together to go drink red bulls in Bisneyland at the same time so they can work more efficiently is not a good sign. As for GamersNexus, my trust in their reporting isolated here, is not very high. I don’t say this because of the facts presented, but they did the same thing to LMG that he was calling out LMG for doing to Billet labs, which is INCREDIBLY hypocritical. That said, maybe tension was building and this was a way to let off steam, idk. But he should have reached out first before even thinking about posting a video. This all said, anyone who is a corporation, company, LLC, small business owner, incorporated in some way, etc., is NEVER going to be your friend 100%, and Linus JUST SAID THIS on a recent WAN show. Last week’s I think. They wont be friends with each other, with their consumers, with constituents, etc. even if they are genuinely trying to be transparent. There has to be some level of protection on the company end. Breakdown: -Companies aren’t friends -Companies look out for themselves -Too fast paced work environments are BAD work environments -Buy something from LTTstore.com and the GN official store because we consumers are swagalicious
  6. Anyone else hate this new update? Had to do a startup repair (which failed), and CHKDSK from the startup cmd line, and then had to boot to safe mode for it to even load in. Somebody please tell me this isn’t just a me issue. Thanks!
  7. Tiered Access is now the owner of the NCIX and NCIXUS domains. They have contact info and everything on ICANN. https://tieredaccess.com/contact/52cdbf17-6954-478f-8e2f-821a98b2ff82 https://tieredaccess.com/contact/d54165eb-1bae-470d-9c07-bb4d91e1ab92
  8. Summary Electric Vehicles are struggling to charge in the cold. Not merely because of the vehicle struggling to charge in the cold, but because the chargers are not being tested enough to work within temperature spec. Some that seem to be most impacted are chargers newly installed by Electrify America co-developed with BTC. Not every charger is as affected, however. ABB and Tesla’s Supercharger seem to be working just fine. EVgo seems to work, however charging speed was affected at faster charge rates (presumably due to temperature). Chargepoint is also touch and go, but not yet confirmed the actual reason. Quotes My thoughts I thought this could be very, VERY applicable right now given how many people are traveling and also given how many new EV owners there are as of this year. As a fellow midwesterner (US) who has seen lots of Teslas and Rivians lately, I thought I would post something in warning to them. These temperatures have not been nice lately and people are now probably needing to charge soon (if not already!) Sources Out Of Spec Reviews:
  9. Praying for the family and for the LTT team! He’s a big loss. Loved that guy. He had a good heart and was a good worker. Let the community know if we can do anything!
  10. You should make underwear out of the image that dbrand uses of you.

  12. Yeah, we kinda need people to pay for the classes but thank you for the input!
  13. We will use a lot of storage over time. Everything we want to be stored locally so we at least have the raw footage and audio of everything. I think you are right on the single socket. We really won't need more than one processor, unless we decide to have one big server everything goes into. We do plan on using it for more than just classes and homework for the students, but for now to get launched we just want the basics.
  14. I didn't think of that. That sounds like a great idea though. Will look into aws more.
  15. Ok guys I'll be back in about a half hour, I have a rehearsal to be at rn. Thank you for the input!
  16. Ok. So you are saying instead of having three storage servers constantly syncing, just have one massive server that everything feeds into.
  17. For a storage server, I was think one of each of these for each location: https://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/system/2U/2023/AS-2023US-TR4.cfm
  18. Basicalyl think unlimited right now. Also look back over the past discussions. I need this to be as user-friendly as possible.
  19. Kinda what I was already looking at. I just need an automated way to be able to have all the servers synced with each other because of how our university does things. They internally need everything to be viewable from any location and if we have 3 different locations, that poses a problem with that. Thank you bro!
  20. I am building my own solution, I just need hardware guidance as I do have an idea of what I want, but I want to see if there is something better. Refer to my original post.
  21. Not really. We need people outside our network to be able to use it. Basically, we are developing a website for it that other people (not just our students) can use. Also, all the homework and that sort of thing will be submitted through there. It will just have a basic 'netflix-like' setup in that it is subscription based.
  22. We are looking at starting with around 500 users minimum. We have a big budget, I'll say that much
  23. So basically, what we (I) are building is a 'netflix-like' platform for our university. All of our classes, chapel services, athletic events, and anything else that the university sponsors will be on there. We have three locations (campuses) that will need to be synced all together in order for us to be able to make it happen properly. What edge devices and servers should I use for each location? We have our main campus that will be the server HQ (main server for the university) and then the two branches. All of them will be doing content creation for our platform that is on plan to launch in October. I just need some guidance on certain things. Thank you!
