  1. I think that issues was just for the ThinkPads, good thing to check quick though. I don't really know what I mean by "good" to be honest. I guess I just always fear when I buy a laptop that I'm going to miss something in the details that is going to end up being a huge deal breaker once I get the laptop.
  2. I found the Lenovo IdeaPad S540 14" model which seems to fit most of my requirements, I don't know if it is a good machine or not though.
  3. like 4.5lbs would be my max. I'd prefer something more in the 3.5lbs range
  4. I already have looked into that and the recommendation it really just anything that isn't integrated graphics. Most of the programs are not GPU intensive, but they will benefit from a bit of GPU power. Also having a small GPU will give me the possibility to game (Rocket League, CSGO, Minecraft) in a pinch. I have my more than powerful desktop at home if school requires me to run a really intense program by any chance. This laptop is more just to get by while I am at school.
  5. Hmm... I hadn't come across that laptop yet. Would be more then powerful enough, although I don't think I could deal with the 2.4KG weight and also the GPU is dare I say overkill!?! I feel like a GPU that powerful is just going to ruin the battery life and also I will never really use all its power. Also looking for something preferably a bit more slim.
  6. I am looking for a laptop to replace my current 5+ year old ASUS laptop (dual core i7, 128GB SSD, 8GB) because it just ain't cutting it any more for the more intense programs and software I am required to run in Computer Engineering. It also likes to blue screen randomly because the SATA connector it slowly breaking Requirements: - $1000 -$1500CAD - 12GB+ of ram (8GB just isn't quite enough for some things.... ) - 500GB+ SSD - a powerful 4 core CPU (i.e. 8th-10th gen i5/i7) - Ideally some sort of dedicated GPU. Something like an MX250 to help with some modelling and design work. Also gives me the option to play lighter games like Rocket League or CSGO if I need a break. - at least 5-6 hours of battery so I can survive most of a school day with it - 1920x1080 screen or better that is at least half decent - the lighter the better (don't want to have to lug a 6lbs thing 2km to school every day) I've been looking through Dell and Lenovo websites and so far I've found a few laptops, although idk.... just looking for some suggestions if anyone got some. Thanks
  7. @Praesi I run a lot of CPU intensive simulations and tasks for school. I do game but it is probably only like 10% of the time when using my computer. I'm planning to upgrade to Ryzen 2nd or 3rd gen. I figure if I sell it all for around $200 or so CAD it will basically pay off an upgrade with these Black Friday sales.
  8. How much do you think my i7-6700k with ASUS z170-a and Corsair h60 would sell for? Owned them for about 2.5 years and looking to upgrade now. Got the original packaging for them all. I live in Canada (Ottawa to be more specific). I'm just wondering what a ballpark price could be if I am going to sell them. Thanks ?
  9. I'm at school most of the day so I set it up to run all night and then while I am at school. Glad I am able to help in some way ?
  10. I mean he bought it a week ago so he could. I just feel like I could save him all the trouble....
  11. I mean I am not messing with the hardware so I don't see how it would void my warranty to plug a USB stick into the machine and wipe it.
  12. I don't think that is a hardware issue when it is working until you have the computer on for a few hours and watch the memory usage creep up. I think it is some sort of memory leak but it can only come from Windows because I have nothing else installed.
  13. Nope, nothing is open when this is happening. At most he has had maybe 3 tabs open.
  14. Everywhere it clearly shows 8GB of ram and when the computer starts up it is using the proper amount of ram that I would expect (2-2.5GB). So I doubt that is the problem.
  15. Brothers new Microsoft Surface Laptop. i5 processor, 8GB of ram, 256GB SSD. Literally got it a week ago and has don't very little with it. The only program he has loaded up is Firefox. That is literally it. Doesn't even have any files on it or anything. After a few hours of use the memory slowly creeps up to 99% usage. Then the laptop becomes unusable. Task manager doesn't show anything using that usage. Nothing is open and the usage is still at 99% using all 8GB. Once you reboot the laptop it goes back to its normal like 2.5GB of ram usage and then slowly starts creeping up using more and more again. Is this like a Windows 10 memory leak or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to avoid having to reinstall Windows on it.
  16. For a while now I have been looking at buying a server to use as a NAS and for personal/work things. I have been searching but I am having trouble finding options for what I want. Price is preferably under $600 CAD Has storage for 8 x 3.5" drives. Would like them to be hot swap bays. Good processor(s). Would like it to have 8 to 12 cores (16 to 24 threads). 32GB of ram Looking for older hardware (~2008 - ~2012) stuff so that the price is more affordable. I am having trouble finding good options. I was originally looking at some used HP ProLiant DL380 on eBay as they go for ~$300. Only issue is the hot swap bays are 2.5" so I couldn't fit the drives I currently own. If you know of any older lines of servers that would fit into what I am looking for that would be awesome.
  17. Assuming you are actually serious about this, what will you be using this computer for?
  18. I think it could handle it. I have a GTX 1060 with a 2560 x 1080 ultrawide (60Hz) and can max out most games at 60FPS.
  19. Damn.... I am tempted just to buy that because it is so cheap. Although I don't need a case and it isn't that great of a case.
  20. Also need to check that your motherboard supports that much ram.
  21. They probably receive hundreds of emails daily from whiny kids asking why they got banned. I don't blame them.....
  22. Well one can assume since the game got so popular that they are backed up with emails.
