  • Biography
Seeking a career in IT, not yet decided on the path to take. I'm not a gamer of the caliber you would likely find around here, I prefer the "classics" such as Battlefield 1942.

  1. I end up using my computers for several years with no upgrade at all, helps to make sure the output doesn't degrade over time. Maybe that has become an old practice by now? That and I didn't want to take peoples word on it that I can do with less. My previous supply wasn't even 80+, so now I'll be saving on the power bill.
  2. I've just upgraded to an XFX RX 460 GPU, and with it a more efficient power supply (EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2) as I had been suggested to. The latter was because I thought I was having power issues, it's changed nothing for me and now I'm lost. I also updated the motherboard's BIOS successfully, no change. My problem is, the system won't POST at all. Every fan and light spins up as usual, but there's no video output whatsoever. However if I unplug the external 6pin connector, everything is fine and boots as usual. Here's all that I have in use: i5-2320 set to 3.3Ghz with stock cooler MSI H61M-P25 (B3) motherboard Two sticks of 4GB RAM for a total of 8GB. Two standard 7200rpm hard drives One LG DVD player/writer One case fan An LED lit power button A standard wireless keyboard and wired mouse Desktop speakers and microphone And of course the RX 460, previously used a GT 720 My previous power supply was a KENTEK KTPS-750. I have no idea what to do now. I've checked the PCI-E slot for dust, that didn't help. My motherboard supports up to PCI-E 2.0, but the card is 3.0, to my knowledge it's backwards compatible but I don't know. Perhaps the issue is with the card itself? With the 6 pin connected it has a blue LED, without it is red. I'm down $200 USD and can't afford anything else for a whole week, maybe I could return the card at best. A motherboard upgrade would practically require a CPU upgrade, I can't do that.
  3. I want it so I can sell it on Ebay. I don't care for high performance enthusiast gaming as much as I respect computers as the science it is. I'd use the money to help pay for certifications, buying parts that I want, or maybe even "broken" towers that I can repair and resell. SSDs are not for everybody, maybe you'll want a tape drive to backup data, or a HDD for a workstation. Yes I created an account just for this. I've been watching LTT for a few months now to help keep up to date with some of the latest technologies. There is roughly a 0.15% of being a winner, you better deliver.
