TheRomanSenate reacted to mrMad-Cat in Almost EVERYONE is Wasting Money on Dash Cams.
IMO this is one of the worst videos LTT has made. Amazon tops never represented good devices. Why not make a much deeper broader analysis?
And what is a dashcam review without even mentioning xiaomi's 70Mai? A800/A800s uses Sony IMX415 sensor and HiSilicon Hi3559 V200 / SigmaStar SSC8629G for example and is a very decent camera for it's price.

I think the sub $100 pricepoint was a setup for the failure. Dashcams have to be rugged for huge temperature swings, high enough resolution for license plates, work in day and night, and at high speeds without blurring and smearing. Even outdoor security cameras and hunter cameras that can do only some of those things run in the multiple hundreds, so I hope there's a follow-up video with cameras in the $200-$450 range. I don't think that's a huge one-time upfront cost for something that goes into your tens of thousands of dollars vehicle for many years.
Here are still frames from in motion driving with a mid range Garmin (old by tech standards, 4 years)... readable plates, readable names on street signs. You usually won't make them out in the moving video because the slight vibration while driving makes things blur in video, but still frames are sharp.
Night Stopped
Sunless afternoon - can read street signs while driving
70km/hr easily readable plates.
I will note that these are also screenshots from an already compressed set of videos I made, the original video files from the camera were sharper.
I also love that vortex video, and how he spends the first few minutes setting the expectations around the difficulties that dashcams face in motion, temperature, light differences, and contrast.

TheRomanSenate reacted to DHelios in Driver for Nameless usb adapter
VIA makes reference board designs available, so I wouldn't be surprised if there are a ton of almost-the-same boards out there from OEMs that couldn't be bothered with designing something from the ground up. That also means that drivers are maybe interchangeable between those boards...

TheRomanSenate reacted to DHelios in Driver for Nameless usb adapter
The USB controller used on the card is a VIA Vectro VT6212L. You're probably best off looking for drivers for some other card that uses this chip.
VIA only has drivers available up to Windows XP, and you can get them from the VIA downloads page. You may be able to manually point newer Windows versions to these drivers, and they may work. They may not. Good luck!

I was already spending around 1k on a new monitor and other accessories. I just happened to remember that LTT has a referral link to amazon.
Total was $900. I'm all for making someone some money some how!

Turns out it was the optical disk drive that was giving me registry errors. Asus DVD read/write.

TheRomanSenate reacted to GoodBytes in Amazon Question
Amazon is a bit complicated, as you have amazon shipping you stuff, and also other companies doing business through Amazon, and under that case, amazon doesn't handle the shipments, so if you need to sign or not, varies. There is no way to know if you'll need to sign or not. But if it shipped by Amazon, then expect to sign.
You need to use credit card to buy online, and believe me, your parents will know. They'll get a nice credit card paper saying where their credit card or yours, was used, and how much was spent at that particular place. And yes, they'll check, as it a requirement to detect fraud as they need to pay it, and need to pay the bills. They might also see it online at their bank account, even if it your credit card as you are minor. So even if they don't receive the credit card statement, they know that they need to pay the bills, and will find out through the bank website.
Basically, what I am saying, is that if you think you can by-pass your parents buying online, good luck, it won't work.
I don't know what you plan to buy, or care, but if I was you, I would ask your parents, even if its "something silly". While they might say no, they'll trust you more, and see you as responsible person in the future. If they find out, and they will, than don't think it will be quickly ignored. It will follow you for years, and have difficulties trusting you, something that will take time to rebuild, even though it is "technically your money".
It is not that your parent hates you, it is the simple fact that they believe, from their experience, that it is not a good purchase. Money can be put elsewhere for the better.
If it because they are afraid of online, than it is what it is. They have their reasons, and you should respect that. It is true that online is not a safe haven where you all secure and everything is nice. If there is a fraud, depending on the cost, it can be a headache for your parents to solve, and I am talking about months. You think that the bank will close their eyes on a 10,000$ purchase? even a 1000$ they'll do a full on investigation, and police reports will need to be filled and so on. It is serious.
So, so what you want, but I would strongly advice, even if what I mentioned as possible guessing situation on why they don't allow you, and I am totally wrong, to not to.
And even if you manage to by-pass your parents, they'll notice one day or another a new item. They'll notice, because you have no idea how much they care about you, even if at times, it might not seem like it.
P.S: Spending 20$ on a mouse mat, I can guaranty you that in 1-2 years from now, you'll do a nice face palm, and go "Worst, decision, ever".
Unless there is a specific need for a fancy mouse mat. Mouse mat is nothing more than decoration. Usually you want to upgrade your mouse first for improved tracking, If your fancy expensive mouse still has issues, then sure, you can do research on what is the right mouse mat for your needs and your mouse. If you don't have a fancy mouse, then trust me, a free mat is all you need if you need improved tracking.

air pushing in. because the blower style cards exhaust air out the back. so it would be more helpful to feed them air.

No, because really many of all controllers used on consoles can be connected to the PC too.

TheRomanSenate reacted to Godlygamer23 in Do consoles have more peripherals than PCs ?
Even if consoles natively have more peripherals, you'll find that a lot of people will create drivers that allow devices for say a PS4 to work on a PC.
-
TheRomanSenate reacted to TidaLWaveZ in Do consoles have more peripherals than PCs ?
It's honestly not even close. The amount of peripherals that have been produced and sold for use with a PC in it's lifespan is likely more than ten times that of all peripherals released for every console combined. Unless there are some specific limitations involved, it really wouldn't even be close.
