  1. It seems to me that the only possible issues could be with either one of the CPU's or the Motherboard.. as everything else has been swapped out, and the same issue occurs. Any tests I could do to check these? I've already done some, but because it happens so random tests always come up okay.
  2. Hey All, I built my first PC about 6 months ago with the help of this great community, everything works great except for an occasional 'Critical Process Died' crash. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for when it crashes, for example it will sometimes crash just sitting idle, other times when gaming or rendering graphics. Sometimes it will crash 4-5 times a day, other times it can go a full day or so without a crash, And I've tried everything I can think of over the last few months to no avail... Here's a list of the things I've tried: New Operating System, (Crashes on both Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.) Different Graphics Card, same Issue on both the GTX 970 and 980Ti. New Ram. Different Hard drive. Here are my Specs: Motherboard: Asus Z9pe-d8 ws CPU: 2x E5-2670 GPU: 980Ti Ram: Samsung DDR3 64gb 1600Mhz ECC Operating System: Windows 10 Pro Let me know if any more specs would be helpful, and if you know of any other tests etc to try? Thanks for any help! Steve
  3. Okay awesome, Thanks for the info. I've manually clocked my ram to 1600 and all seems to work good still.
  4. Hello everyone, Just wanted to give an update, and I also have a little issue. First the good news, I got my first build up and running! Thanks to everyone for helping with this PC. Now my problem is with the ram, I've installed 64gb of this G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900). And my system boots fine and reads it as 64gb of ram, but in the Bios it says its running at 1333mhz by auto, (I could manually change it to the proper speed, but I'm a little scared to do that.) Now I'm wondering if this ram is supported in the ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS. I've had a hard time finding what the motherboard officially supports, but I know it supports up to 1866mhz, but I'm wondering if that is only for ECC ram... not sure why that would make a difference though. Would love any advice on this issue. Thanks! Steve
  5. Awesome thanks for the suggestion, the Enthoo Pro looks like a great alternative to the Define R4.
  6. So you think quad channel might only be possible with all the slots full?
  7. I was curious how to position 4 ram chips in that motherboard, and have it in quad channel? if there's 2 chips by each CPU will that be quad channel? Also I know the Define R4 is not advertised to fit the Z9PE-D8, but people say it fits just fine, see this build here: https://teksyndicate.com/videos/build-workstation-pc-our-dual-xeon-build-and-guidelines-help-yours
  8. The ram you linked to is 16x chips of 4gb ram, also 64gb is overkill for me right now, I was looking at something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231569&cm_re=32gb_ram-_-20-231-569-_-Product 32gb of faster ram? Thoughts on that?
  9. Okay its happening... First I bought my GPU! found a deal on a new open box EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB SC+ for just $539.99 on ebay ($650 on amazon.) Then I went with Trey's suggestion and picked up the dual CPU motherboard of ebay as it looked like a great deal, and picked up 2x E-2670's. Now for the case I want to go for the Fractal Define R4, so just looking for a good deal on that, and a decent 1050W PSU. Thanks for the suggestions everyone! getting exciting....
  10. also what kind of heat sink setup would you go with for dual cpu's? and wouldn't this setup fit well in the Fractal Design Define R5? as I'm kinda set on that one.
  11. Awesome! I'll be curious to hear how you like your build with E5 2670.
  12. Hey Lawrence, one more question I had on your build here, curious on your choice of the ASRock X99 Extreme4, anything special about it? It doesn't support USB 3.1, not an issue for me right now, but for future proofing might be nice.
  13. That's a sweet build! what would you use for a dual heatsink setup? and I'm still just a little concerned how well the Xeon CPU E5-2670 would work in the applications and games that require more single core tasks. But rendering with those 32 threads would be a beast!
  14. Thanks brob, looks like the Fractal Define R5 should be fine with that then.
  15. Awesome, was looking at this bundle deal on Newegg, just wondering if the Avexir ram might be too tall. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.2624899
