  1. The cooler height restriction is a little disappointing, as it will not fit a wraith stealth cooler (included with Ryzen 5 APUs).
  2. yup, edited already though thanks!
  3. It's mostly smb network storage for our workstations, which is network-bound like you said, but I have some plans to experiment with hosting VM storage on the dataset. Mainly though it's for the longer warranty period, which correlates to longer MTBF in my experience.
  4. I'm buying additional drives for our small business NAS, and have chosen Red Pro in the past due to the slight performance increase compared to Red and 5-year warranty, which makes it cheaper per TB per warranty-year. We run zfs with mirrored pairs and a separate zil, currently with FreeNAS. While shopping for more drives though, I've noticed that WD Gold, which as far as I know is what WD would want you to use for configurations with more than 16 drives, is cheaper than the 1-to-16-drive-rated Red Pro drives. I know that the drive bay rating is kind of marketing bs and I can do whatever I want with my drives, but I'm confused as to why Red Pros are more expensive right now. Is there any known reason for this? Thanks
  5. Use USB over Ethernet adapters. HDMI over Ethernet also exists. Edit: for example https://www.amazon.com/HDE-over-Extension-Cable-Adapter/dp/B004XYEXX4 Power might be an issue, I'm not sure. If it is, use a powered hub at the controller end.
  6. Thanks Razer! blade is preferable because of the GPU, but i'll gladly take a blade stealth. I'll probably put linux on it!
  7. Personally I think this is great news as youtube needs some serious competition if the medium is going to evolve. As a viewer for almost 3 years now, it's really exciting to see you grow this fast, and taking this step (like moving into an office finally) is the right thing to do in order for that to keep happening, I think. Other thoughts: 1. Going to two different sites for short form video content is going to be annoying. There's no way of aggregating vessel content into my normal folder of youtube must-watch channels (RIP RSS, which was built for articles and not video anyway). Youtube's almost monopolistic market share was at least convenient for my browsing habits. 2. I hope vessel supports 4K60 like youtube does (on a 1440p screen myself). 3. No android app yet

  9. Would have loved to see their variety of colors photographed next to some motherboards to compare the colors.
  10. FreeNAS doesn't require much space, so since Linus asked what could be changed about this, I would say that the OS should be installed on a USB drive to free up one of the sata ports. And if you wanted a more reliable drive for the OS, which could have been the reason for the intel SSD, put it on an SLC compact flash card. Fitting that inside the case with a usb adapter may require some velcro. One cool thing about freenas is that all the zfs and share configuration data is held in a single sqlite database. Back up the configuration database from the current setup's webui, flash the OS image to the CF card (no cd installation actually required), boot to that card, and restore that backup. after the system reboots everything should be up and running again, and you'll have another sata port to use for another drive.
