Raginryuu reacted to jaslion in Laptop suggestions under 11"
Nothing changes. A normal surface will still be too big. Keep in mind you need to look at the actual device size because the surface go doesn't use a 16:9 screen. Screen size doesn't mean much when looking for a specific fit.

Raginryuu reacted to Dedayog in Laptop suggestions under 11"
You're not wrong but for his tasks the Surface Go will be perfectly fine. It's not like he has a lot of options if he won't go Apple.

Raginryuu reacted to jaslion in Laptop suggestions under 11"
I mean android tablets just suck right now so that is crossed off. The surface go is a slow device so yeah not something I recommend and the normal surface pro 8 is too big for your liking.
The go III does have an option for a i3 unit but that is by far the most expensive one. The pentium ones should be avoided at all cost. The i3 10100y is well slow but does decent in burst tasks. So that could indeed possibly be the best option for you since you don't want an ipad. Keep in mind this is about 700$ for the 128gb ssd 8gb ram i3 surface go. This is the lowest end one you want to get really.
I will still recommend an ipad over all of these. I also primarily want to stay in the windows android environment but I did still end up getting an ipad because it's simply actually good. Not something I could say about my android tablets or my vaio tab 11 or the surface 5 I've used all for a long time but always ended up getting rid of them because they were a disappointment.

Raginryuu reacted to freeagent in How to future proof a TV? OLED verses LED
How to future proof?
I can tell you two ways that will work for sure.
1. Overspend, use the cash you were going to use, plus credit, go all out. That way in the future you wont want to spend again on another tv, and you will find a way to be happy with what you have.
2. Buy a cheap tv, that way when the future comes it wont hurt so much when you throw it away.
Number two might not work very well, same with number one.
Get the best screen and features you want at a price you think is fair. Best way right there.
There is always something new around the corner..

Raginryuu reacted to Energycore in Will Ryzen 5000 Series CPU have ECO mode?
While we're not sure if they will (reviews drop on the 4th so keep your eye on that!), I would trust that any low power options that Ryzen 3000 has will be present on the 5000 series. Not 100% confident, but it's mostly been the case in the past.
Even if they don't come with one though, you can always set a power limit and undervolt in the BIOS. It takes a bit longer but it's 100% going to be available as an option.
-
Raginryuu reacted to DailyProcrastinator in Will Ryzen 5000 Series CPU have ECO mode?
As far as I know those eco mode settings are typically Windows Power Settings, or enabled modes for hardware with fans, IE fans will not spin until a certain temp threshold is hit.
'Eco' mode is not something that makes particular sense with a CPU. The solution here would be to undervolt thus = less power draw.

Raginryuu reacted to IdiotDuck in Linux or windows server OS for game hosting
I strongly suggest Linux. I've done both on the better hardware for Windows vs 2 generations older for Linux and it was night and day for performance.
A simple server Ubuntu install (and learning to use SSH if you want the server to be headless) aren't that hard. The big difference is that everything is command line.
https://linuxgsm.com/ is a fantastic resource for most of the servers you may want to host
My experience with this is going from a dual Xeon x5650 system with 24GB of DDR3 on Windows 10 to a headless 1U server with dual Xeon X5335 and 32GB of DDR2 on Ubuntu server. Ran a Minecraft server on each and the older system with the lighter OS was way ahead in terms of performance

DRAM frequency, seems like you have 2666MHz CL19 (DDR has double the data rate than actual frequency, also slightly behind because BCLK is not at 100MHz)

Raginryuu reacted to Unimaginative Name in HP OMEN 15T Upgrade HELP
Here is a teardown of your laptop. You will need SODIMM form factor memory, it is smaller than desktop memory. Try to get a ram module that is the same speed, has the same latency and timings as the ram that is in there. You could also just buy two identical modules to be sure and sell the single module currently in there. The M.2 SSD should be in the M.2-2280 form factor (80mm long) and the B+M key or the M key (basically any one).
that is the M.2 key guide.
HP Omen Service Guide
Note - Based on page 5 of the service manual, if you have a 2TB hard drive, you can only install a 128GB SSD and if you have a 1TB drive, you can install up to a 512GB SSD depending on your laptop configuration. Also, pay attention to the manual for RAM specifications.

If you can spare the extra $10 and rebates, then this is what I'd get if I were you:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($194.99 @ B&H)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($41.38 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill NT Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($48.73 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon R7 370 2GB PCS+ Video Card ($118.98 @ Newegg)
Case: Fractal Design Core 2300 ATX Mid Tower Case ($44.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($29.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $509.04

Using the iGPU of the i5 should work just fine for streaming to twitch, and while the R7 370 isn't the best GPU, the GPU is the first component that gets replaced in the build and the i5 in this should last a long time.

-
Raginryuu reacted to stconquest in Thoughts for a $700 Build?
The build is okay, but it could be better. You have the 6400 with a Z-Series board. Although this will allow you an OC, you will lose features of the CPU package when you increase the BCLK.
1. You lose your iGPU.
2. You lose your CPU core thermal sensors.
3. L1 cache speed is reduced by 75%.
4. You lose C-states.
5. AVX instruction set gets disabled.
Along with the z-Series board, you have the option for higher speed RAM... and man is it ever cheap right now.
You have a really shitty power supply.

Raginryuu reacted to HPWebcamAble in Buying used parts
A case is fine to buy used. They don't really affect how a computer works. Case fans should be fine as well, but they can break.
I would never buy a hard drive or SSD, they have limited lifespans which are relatively short when compared to other parts in a computer.
Anything else should be OK, though I can't necessarily recommend you buy other parts used.
They will obviously have a higher failure rate than new parts, though I don't know what the statistics are.

I'm planning of going with the Kingston 120 GB SSD for my build. They are aren't expensive and I think they are best for a budget. Also good for you, for getting an SSD.
Also, It says ~$200: but it is almost always on sale for ~$50
