Just upgraded my eldest sons Pentium (2 core craptacular) to a ryzen3 1200.   Still kept the r9 270 and I was very surprised with how well windows managed the changeover.   A couple of false starts until it recognized the different CPU and motherboard then all I had to do was manually install the network adapter driver.

    It always feels good hooking my kids up with new parts!  I bet your son is very happy with the new CPU.  Well done.

    Canada EH,  for the games he plays the 1200 will last at least 3 years.  Also he only has an r9 270, so going any bigger on the CPU wouldn't have netted any real benefits.   We also have a few other computers in the house that could use the 1200 (my nas and game server) should we decide to upgrade his CPU again in a few years.
