  1. I looked up the jamicon parts and apparently they were 10,000 hour rated at 105. Given this unit has not likely even done 4000 hours in static temp controlled environment, I am going to assume something at least is less quality than it could have been. Especially if several have gone at once. But I won't know that till I pull them out and test them properly. I have ordered rubycon and panasonic all with 105 ratings and the longest hour ratings I could source. I think the lowest one is 7000. Thanks for the help guys.
  2. Wanderingfool was arguing they only need to show it was reasonable to expect that his joke would lead to trouble. My statement was in defense that if tech enthusiasts are divided over it being possible or not for snap to be spied on means you can't reasonable expect anyone to think it would definitely be. Thus you have to essentially prove he thought his friends would dob him in in order to show he was reckless or not. As I said before, the discussion was questioning if it was reasonable to expect that such a message sent in the way it was to the people it was would lead to this. Given this thread has posts both saying it is encrypted and that it isn't encrypted (debating if it's possible to accuse him of being irresponsible) proves that it is not reasonable to assume this guy had any belief that his message would lead to the outcome it did. Because if anyone in this thread believes that snapchat is encrypted and thus his message was not intercepted then that by itself shows it is reasonable to assume this bloke believed his message would only be seen by friends and not cause any damages.
  3. They do come out, but not immediately which is what you'd have to expect if you were to pursue the idea that he was reasonably informed that he was breaking a law. And again it is not the expectation that said joke would be made public. You are assuming that your friends who would do that have the same mindset as this guys friends. All we know is he made a joke to friends, you can't prove he knew they would have likely reported him for it. I didn;t claim they tell people that, I said they "go out of their way to have you believe" They often talk about such access to be only for criminal activity leaving the general public with the view that "if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear". It's all about what is not said most of the time. And yet even in this thread amongst people who believe they are well informed there are two distinct opposing statements regarding whether snapchat is encrypted or not. I don't even care whether it is or not, the point is if tech enthusiasts think it is then it is reasonable for a lay person to think that also.
  4. Your last paragraph is most likely the truth. Given Behringer are close the the cheapest for everything I'd be betting a pretty penny that if they did outsource the PSU that they screwed the price down so far the contractor would be looking to cut costs. Having said that, it's not outside of Behringers MO to simply take an existing product and copy it completely. Either way there generally isn't enough meat in the end sale price to fill me with confidence that they have not cut any corners.
  5. It's all good, I believe you. I will take them out and try a few new ones. Although this PSU is only 4 years old it has jamicon caps, so even if they hadn't failed they are probably going to go in the next few years anyway. Funny thing is why companies like behringer use 105C rated caps but cheap out on quality.
  6. I don't recall the last time the fbi, airport security, mi5 or whoever actively told us they were constantly listening, the best they ever argue is for the ability for specific targets only. Your government is in control go back to sleep sorta thing. Any reasonable person would expect a private message to stay private and that the recipients knew it was a long running joke.
  7. Not for ESR, I just did a basic dmm resistance and cap test. To test them properly I have to take them out. Think I will now anyway as I am running out of options. Cheers.
  8. you can't fix it. like every human invention, if it can be used by someone to further their own personal agenda then it will be and the human race be damned.
  9. Public nuisance my arse, given both the authorities that be and the social media companies go out of their way to make you believe all your messages are private, how on earth could anyone insinuate and random user would know his "private message" was being read? Even if he was dobbed in by a recipient, to prove guilt of any nature they have to prove he knew it would reported. But given the way today's legal systems work I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't found guilty of something. I mean, it's really hard to save face once you have publicly announced your intentions when they are wrong.
  10. switching platforms for that reason is liking jumping form the pot into pan. They all have their downsides that make consumer life shit, that is why I haven't invested in any ecosystem or "smart tech" beyond a basic smart phone.
  11. (I didn't see your post when I posted my last one, it seems this is more a storm in a tea cup than a full on case of consumer rape.
  12. Pics probably won't help as my camera is shit and the board looks good. The controller is not generating vcc, it is definitely getting a good feed to HV. Which is a shit because it is the only damned part on this whole device that element14 (farnell) can't get till next month at best. Edit: and only sells in lots of 2500 , looks like I am creating a new account with a new supplier. I did test them, but only in comparison to each other on the board. How likely is it that they would all go at the same time? I don't really want to pull components unless I run out of options. Being a behringer product I just know the more I pull it apart the more likely I am to fuck it completely. Having said that I have to admire the overall design of this product. If I can't get this supply to work All I have to do is make an external PSU and the board will be up and running again.
  13. I'm trying to fix a power supply for a Behringer 32ch mixing console. The PSU has a +5v with it's own gnd for the digital circuits, a 48V and a dual rail +/-15V for the audio circuits. The feedback is taken from the +15v line. The resistance on the output for the -15v rail is a solid 1.4Mohm, while the +15v rail takes quite a while to settle on 5Kohm. I have compared capacitance and resistance measurements for every component on both 15v rails and they are all the same (including the transformer windings). I did this on the board so I know the readings are not accurate to the component spec but they are the same for both sides meaning that if a component has failed then it's counter part on the other rail also failed. When powered it only provides 2.8V on each 15V rail and nothing on anything else. Q1, is it possible the output resistance measurements are just different due to the existence of the feedback network attached to the +15v rail? q2, should the cny17/3 opto isolater measure 1.1V drop in both directions on the LED side? If not then I need to fix that first. What I have done is checked the hot side and replaced the mosfet (because they are cheap and it had to come out for testing anyway). I am getting a solid 340V DC at the mosfet and there are no shorts or open diodes etc. The transformer is giving me continuity, no shorts between coils and 0.3 to 0.4ohms across each coil. cheers guys.
  14. Anti consumer does not mean what you think it does. If you want a product you can use 3rd party software with then create your own 3rd party software. All they have done is stop people from publishing software that infringes their IP, they have not stopped you from hacking your own device and using your own software. They are not preventing the software, they are just stopping people form publishing it. you can still create and use your own software exclusively on your device. They are just stopping people from releasing free software that uses their own IP and has the potential to reduce sales. It's not like they are holding your washing machine to ransom over after sales service subscriptions.
  15. They are well within their rights to protect their own IP and business model, if you don't like it then don't buy their products. That's how a free market works. Now, if they were preventing you from writing your own software and hacking a device you purchased then that is a different story.
  16. I was just commenting on the phones that we can compare power draw wise. That's not an overly hard thing to do with the shear number of reviews out there. The battery in the non plus models were smaller, not by a huge amount but obviously by enough. If they had of put the same size battery in all models then they would have either all had the problem or none of them would. But yes, you are correct in that it would have made replacing the battery easier (another gripe I have with modern phones). yes they did, but that doesn't excuse them for keeping users in the dark about throttling their phones nor does it excuse them for failing to make the product do what they advertised in the first instance.
  17. Battery chemistry and degradation for any given workload is something apple should know enough about to know how to properly size a battery. By putting in slightly smaller battery they ensured (either intentionally or out of straight up ignorance) that they would die early and then require an unannounced patch to mitigate the crashing issue. Those who used and recharged their phones more aggressively would have had the issue way sooner than someone who rarely used the phone and kept it charged most of the time. This is why cheap phones die earlier than quality devices (we can see it clearly across the android market as there is a larger range of phones with difference sized batteries but similar power draws). The more cycles for a given time period the short the battery lasts and there are only two ways to reduce battery cycles, one is to use the device less the other is to put in a bigger battery. Seeing as the issue here was batteries failing before they should have (compared to similar iphones with bigger batteries) and it is unreasonable to ask consumer to use a premium product less for fear of it not lasting as long, the proper thing for apple to do was to admit the batteries weren't up to the task and offer to replace them on effected devices up to 2 years and discount for upto 4 years. That way they wouldn't be paying for normal degradation but only for the portion they cheaped out on (i.e the devices that ceased to work as intended too early for the asking price). Also, just a note, the US judicial system is a shambles when it comes to corporate anything, you just can't trust a court that ignores absolute evidence in favor of emotional tropes. Just because they found Apple guilty doesn't mean they had proof (not that you need any when they released the fix to an issue that could only be caused by them).
  18. I'd be more interested in devices physically lasting 5 years rather than tacit software services that usually do anyway.

  21. Fortunately not in Australia, just like consumer law, there are obligations and legal requirements they cannot have you sign away no matter how legal their documents are. Private information is well protected under law, how well that law can be applied is another question.

All I said was that you were lucky if you get more acknowledgment than you deserve, because some of us get attacked for merely trying to be fair. I think you might have read into my response as being more than it was.

Due process is the method by which everyone has the opportunity to defend themselves fairly in court against accusations. The argument was made was that due process should be ignored in rape cases because finding men guilty can be too hard. There is nothing unexamined about my stance on that. And yes it is a rigid belief, because due process is something every human should have the right to regardless what they are accused of. If they don't, then the ability to have people jailed on nothing more than hearsay becomes a reality.

Lucky... I have been told I am too male because I had the audacity to say that due process was a very important part of any justice system and should not be waved just because some men can't be found guilty of certain crimes.
