Biggest waste of a network switch ever. I've been meaning to take a pic of this for months but they locked the room it's in before I had a chance and only recently found it unlocked .
So this is the businesses WAN. The fiber line is coming from either the street or a modem located in another building. That blue cable goes to their router's WAN interface in another room.
This switch is a CISCO Catalyst 2960-X series switch (48FPD-L it looks to be specifically). Of course much of this equipment today can be bought second hand off eBay for cheap but brand new these switches are expensive. $2,000+ from the online retailers that I've seen, and they're using it as a f***ing media converter. You can buy a 1Gbit media converter for ~$15.
The stupid things businesses do sometimes. It blows my mind.
Anybody have any similar stories to share of poorly put together setups?
