  1. I have my brothers old r9 390 which has been excellent but I now have my mad money saved up for something around $700.
  2. Thank you everyone for the thoughtful replies. My wife might cut my head off if I get another pc part withing the next five years so it's looking I may opt for the 2080 for future proofing - hoping that most games won't require more than 8gb of vram.
  3. Currently, the 1080ti's used are selling for almost $100 less than a new 2080. Benchmarks suggest that they are fairly close in general productivity and gaming. I'll only be using it for gaming on a 1440p 144hz monitor. Is the future of ray tracing gaming, warranty and the 8gb of ram worth the extra $100? Or can I skate by the next 5-6 years with a 1080ti and save a few bucks?
  4. Thanks for the well thought out reply. I didn't even think about the "scan area". I'm going to look into a good 27" 1440p @ 140Hz for sure.
  5. I do at least want a 27". I've been using a 32" tv seiki tv this past two years lol.
  6. What do you guys think about the monitor I linked? https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VX3258-2KC-MHD-FreeSync-Monitor-DisplayPort/dp/B07B8DXNDZ/ref=sr_1_4/135-5566578-2052605?ie=UTF8&qid=1527087234&sr=8-4&keywords=1440p+monitor+curved
  7. I figured this lol. I'll likely be upgrading my gpu by the end of the summer though. I'm thinking the 1440p though since i_build_nanosuits reminded me about how 4k at 32" wouldn't make sense.
  8. I can for sure see why you'd say that about the 4k not making sense but I was wondering one thing as I played pubg the other day - if I'm playing a shooter game and trying to spot someone from a LONG distance, will the extra pixels allow me to make out a better picture of the enemy?
  9. I've been looking into a ton of different monitors and I'm having trouble deciding if quad pixels is worth buying over double pixels even if it means 4K with ONLY 60Hz. If you could assume both have 1-2ms which would you choose and why? Do you have any suggestions specifically? So far, I'm leaning towards the this monitor. What I like about it is that with 144Hz, I'll be seeing clearly as I run around in fps games, great price, 2ms - plus the curved feature seems a bit attractive. EDIT: Here is a vague list of my pc specs (I plan on upgrading my GPU within the next year or two) i7-7700k CPU RX-480 4gb GPU 16gb Ram MSI z270 Carbon Mobo 2tb Seagate HDD 250gb evo M.2 Samsung SSD
  10. A site that helped me learn and compare hardware is www.userbenchmark.com . To me, it's very noob-friendly. I started off only knowing how to reinstall windows and months later was confident enough to put the hammer down, buy my parts, and build my rig.
  11. UPDATE: So it's all setup with the battery. It's all working well and as expected had it running (not plugged in) for two hours on medium volume and didn't die. I put it in when I need to charge it and perfectly suits my needs. Thanks again to everyone for a good advice!
  12. Hmm. That sounds like a pretty convenient setup. I m already setting up a battery with it to tonight. If it does not go well, I may hook up an old psu. Thanks for the input!
  13. Thanks for the response!
  14. Hey guys. I've really been wanting to start a little project that involves using a 200w speaker car audio amplifier (SOUND STORM EV200.2 EVOLUTION 200-Watt Full Range, Class A/B 2 to 8 Ohm Stable 2 Channel Amplifier), 2 car speakers (BOSS AUDIO R63 Riot 6.5" 3-way 300-watt Full Range Speakers) , a 12v 7amp battery (ExpertPower 12V 7 Amp EXP1270 Rechargeable Lead Acid Battery), and a battery charger (Black & Decker BM3B 6V and 12V Battery Charger / Maintainer) all stuffed in a carefully crafted wood box. I know the portability wouldn't be to great but I'd be leaving it plugged in when in use. My electrical knowledge is pretty basic so I need your help! My main questions are: 1 - Is the charger I mentioned above going to be able to power my battery constantly while listening to music (via amp and speakers?) 2 - Should I get a fuse and place it between the amp and the battery? 3 - Is the battery strong enough to output the power needed for this amp? Side-note - I've read that I could use a benchtop ac-to-dc power inverter but I've heard that that can output dirty power. Also, I've read that a pc PSU could work but this scares me for if it's not made for anything BUT supplying power to a pc... Thank you all so much for your help!
  15. Hey guys. So I'm trying to just build an inexpensive powerful boombox. I don't NEED it to be portable and am happy to usually leave it plugged in. I have basic electrical knowledge but am not exactly educated when it comes to electrical engineering. I simply would like to use 150w car speakers I already have with a car amp, small vehicle battery, and a battery charger. I've been doing some research and have come up with this part list (see image) . 1- Will this work? 2- Can I leave this boombox plugged in via amp to battery, battery to charger, charger to wall all while I'm continously playing music for hours? 3- if I would like to unplug it, would it last a few hours playing music? Thank you all in advance for your expert knowledge!!
