  1. A family friend asked me to upgrade this computer as it was running slow, especially at startup. Current setup: CPU: Intel - Pentium E5200 2.5GHz Dual-Core OEM/Tray Processor Motherboard: Asus - P5KPL-CM Micro ATX LGA775 Motherboard Memory: Kingston - ValueRAM 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2-800 Memory Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: Sapphire - Radeon HD 5450 1GB Video Card It's only used for email, chrome, office and some accounting software, so I'm not even sure why there is a graphics card in there. Budget is probably around the $200 range, but the main concern is not to change the workflow, so I want to avoid a full reinstall of windows. My only thought was to upgrade the HDD to an SSD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. This is my ad I made for a side business doing computer repairs. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-view-details.html?adId=1084492629 I'm getting a decent number of views, but hardly any responses. (Less than 1 call a week) I was wondering if anyone had some ideas on how to improve the ad. Perhaps I've left something critical out, or have said something that is turning people away. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Ultimate build-off between Linus and Luke (first to post with closed case wins). HOWEVER, they cannot touch any of the hardware. Instead, they must each direct a gamer with zero PC building experience. Perhaps livestream? Should at the very least provide a more complete build guide for the uninitiated.
  4. It would give me an excuse to open up my system for much needed upgrades.
  5. I bought my first custom system in 2011. I was moderately happy with it until I saw one of Linus' videos mid last year. While I enjoyed his content and found it both entertaining and informative, it made me realise I was doing everything about my system was wrong. After much planning, and helpful advice from the forum, I gained the confidence to build the system I still use today. Thank you, keep up the great work!
  6. Do you have an example of such a product?
  7. My grandparents have this issue where they want to communicate with each other in different parts of the house without shouting. I thought the obvious solution was walkie-talkies, but after 3 days the batteries went dead, and they had no intention of stocking up on AAs. Using rechargeable batteries would be too cumbersome as well. If anyone knows of a price conscious solution, that would be great.
  8. You Can Grab Software That Helped Pixar Make Wall-E For Free Soon We spend so much on our editing hardware, there's pretty much nothing left over for professional grade software. Glad Pixar is making the animation scene more accessible. Also, this may encourage people to use something other than Valve's Source Filmmaker.
  9. Cool. Thanks. You shouldn't mislead people like that.
  10. I had a build made up for me recently at the local computer shop. Been going with these guys for a while, I highly respect them. However, I got my build home and noticed the dual memory sticks (corsair vengeance) were in slots a1 and b1 (asus z87 plus). The motherboard manual clearly recommends a2 and b2. I asked the builders about it, and they were absolutely sure that a1 and b1 would give the best results. I have no problem opening up the case and swapping them over, but the computer runs fine, and I don't want to end up running back and paying another fee because I didn't listen. What would you do?
  11. When I went to pick up the PSU, the computer guy insisted I should get a 750W, and if he were building the system for someone else, he'd put in an 850W just to be safe. He's probably just trying to sell me a bigger one for no reason. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
