    Some eye-candy with a mini-update here.

I've ordered a kit of memory from G. Skill. It's DDR4, 3000 MHz, 14-14-14-34, 1.35V kit. I've also got black EK Monarch heatspreaders to change onto them to make them look better. I've got my silver panels in. So, now, really, all I'm waiting on is the i7-6950X to release. I'll likely change my PSU to the Corsair SF600, but only when I change my GPU. I've been trying to find a way to re-do the weird tubing run in the back left corner of the case, but, I don't think I have enough height clearance to do my intended plan. Lastly, I'm tempted to get a thinner radiator (EK SE 240 (26mm thick)), just to see how it performs. If it were only about 5 degrees warmer, it would be well worth the space savings from using it.

    Thanks!

Tubing update! Got all tube cut to length, cleaned up the edges, and cleaned the tubes! Also put all cables in place, and booted the PC up quick to see if everything registered, and it is running smooth!

All cards and cpu block installed.

Really like the looks of those cards. It is a shame that EK does not make quad clear GPU bridges

I am using this getto mount to cut the acrylic tubing.

And this drill attachement to trim the edges. This is also handy for taking a mm or two off the tube to get it to the perfect length.

Sometims accident happens and too much is taken off. It actually makes a huge difference for the final result.

Started with the GPU - cpu piping and worked my way from there. It is hard to exactly plan a loop like this, so I pretty much just worked with the fittings I had, and tested different setups.

I put tape on the tubes in order to not scratch them when doing the trimming with the drill.

The first pump is actually located a bit over the reservoir, but this will not be an issue, as the weight of the fluid will force it into the first pump, and "jumpstart" the filling process.

Done! Some of the tubes looks a bit off, but that is just because they are a bit out of place, and needs to be "pushed back".

All tubes cleaned and ready to be put in again.

Time to get the cables in there.. God there are so many cables!

But the 180 comb really tidies it up:D

    Other angle.

Everything in place! Just some fluid and final details to go!

There is now one single open slot on the PSU. Which is just a testimony to how many cables was made for this thing:D

    As promised, a quick update.

I have always been a fan of the rule of thumb that you need a 120 mm radiator for each component, and then one extra to quiet things down. For example, for a cpu/gpu setup, I would go with a 360 mm radiator, for a dual GPU + CPU I would go with a quad setup etc.

When it comes to radiator capacity more is always better, up until a certain point where you do not really get anything in return. Yes you can buy a HUGE case and put 4 480 mm radiators in there, but in this build I would like to prove that a 480 + a 360 is MORE than enough to cool an ultra high-end build without the need of 3000 RPM fans.

Bottom of the case (Or top, depending on how you mount the fan plates) supports a 480 mm radiator in 60 mm thickness. You can get a thicker one as the limiting factor is the PCI bracket, but the radiator can be pushed forward so it steers clear of this. But if you go with 4 dual slot graphic cards, these will hit a thicker radiator.
So it is actually possible to go push/pull with the bottom radiator.

Top radiator cannot be more than 60 mm thick, as the motherboard itself is the limiting factor. So no push/pull config for this, unless you go with a 40 mm thick radiator.

Everything mounted. The case is starting to get filled up, and I have not put in the last "big" part - the PSU.
    More to come soon!

As I promised yesterday I installed EKWB predator and a Laserhive radiator mounting plate.

Empty case with the radiator mount on the left.

First I started by replacing the standard backplate with the one EKWB included.

The fans on the Predator come configured as pull but because i wanted to use it as intake in needed to turn the fans around.

    Done.

I mounted the radiator and motherboard.

Everything mounted and ready to go.

Now i just need to do some cable management, but I ran out of zip-ties..

    UPDATE!

I have always wanted to watercool my PC but the price always made me hesitate, since I did not want to spend over 500 euros on watercooling equipment.
But when EKWB announced they will be designing Predator I decided to buy it as soon as it was available, as it is a compact pre-filled and pre-assembled product that would satisfy my needs for watercooling.
I preordered it as soon as it launched and it arrived yesterday.

And today I will mount it into my case with the help of Laserhives 2x120 front fan mount.

I have an old Apple G4 Blue/White just laying around and I have been wanting to do something with that system. Because the hardware is just completely out of date and it doesn't have any features i like very much I decided to mod it and build a pc in it. Today I started with tearing down the system and deciding how far I want to go as this is my fist experience with modding.

My plan is to fit an mATX motherboard in here and go with and AMD APU, since I am on a very tight budget and this isn't my main rig, although it might be if it turns out killer. I will be trying to build as cheap as possible with the idea of upgrading gradually.

    This here is the 'victim':
I do like the current colour scheme but as this case has been misused a bit by the last owner (I got it for free, awesome) I am seriously considering painting the entire case black/white or going extreme over the top lime green/black or something crazy like that.

Here it is sporting it's sexy internals and massive passive heatsink:
So, even though it all looks quite nice and old school, I started removing all the parts until I had a completely blank case. It is a fairly easy process,. Only the plastic plate on the IO and expansion slots were a bit harder, requiring a few clips to be pushed/pulled simultaneously. (I have also removed the plastic piece on the inside of the door, just not yet on this picture).

I think I will be removing the metal plate that runs through the case as a support for the PSU and fabricating some mounting mechanism myself and I will definitely remove the little bracket on the front part of the door as that has no use whatsoever.

I will do my best to update regularly and take pictures all the way through the process.
I would love to hear your ideas about this project and if you have any suggestions throughout this mod, all suggestions are welcome since I am completely new to this.

I'm still trying to figure out a name for this build but I assume one will present itself during the build.

Awesome news: I'm happy to share that we've signed on with a manufacturer, and greenlit them to make pre-production test units of our final design! This will culminate in a few cases straight off the manufacturing line, that will more or less represent what [REDACTED] will look like in production. It's one of the most important (and final) preparatory steps to make, and it's what we've been waiting to begin for some time now.

Beyond giving us an opportunity to test and verify the design and its functionality (as well as perform various quality and other checks), this work also gives our manufacturer the opportunity to actually make the case, and look for places to simplify the design or streamline how they'll produce [REDACTED] at scale.

Needless to say, stuff’s starting to get really exciting!

Interesting development today, that would significantly affect builds in Nova, per techPowerUp:

With that power supply, any dual-GPU build made inside Nova could use a SFX unit to power everything. In fact, short of quad-GPU builds using dual-GPU cards - or builds with very aggressive overclocks - no PC you could build in Nova would ever need an ATX power supply.

    Just imagine this...

...but with Titan X's. It would be possible!

Still looking for feedback on the FrozenQ M1 reservoir

Are you interested in using the FrozenQ M1 reservoir with Nova?

    Did some hardware testing today.

Testing out the Noctua L9x65 heatsink.

5930K at stock clocks and ambient at 23.5°C it was idling at about 38°C with the NF-A9 PWM 92x25mm fan (this isn't the included one) running at ~900 RPM.

After 10 minutes of Prime96 Blend @ 10 threads it got up to about 90°C and the fan was running at 2040 RPM. CPU was throttling slight, dropping briefly from 3.6GHz down to 3.5GHz.

So I tried adding a 120mm on the side bracket blowing towards the heatsink and after 20 minutes of Prime it got to about 81°C.

Left to its own devices, the L9x65 isn't suited to cooling a socket 2011 CPU at heavy load, but with additional case cooling the temps are reasonable considering the small size.

Here's a 3.5" HDD installed. So in this configuration you could fit a 3.5" drive, a video card, PCIe SSD, and a sound card.

Here you can see the HDD mounting screws, can't really see in this pic but there are rubber grommets that the drive is sitting on.

Did some thermal tests.  The drive is a Toshiba DT01ACA300 3TB 7200RPM. At ~25.5°C ambient the drive got up to 48°C with the drive idling but the GTX 980 running Valley after 25 minutes.

Then I ran CrystalDiskMark 4K tests on the HDD to work it out while still running Valley and after 30 minutes the drive got up to 53°C.

With both GPU and HDD idling the drive sits at 43°C.

So perhaps having the video card in the third slot isn't ideal for HDD temps but that's easily fixed by moving the GPU to the top slot.

    Update!
I did not know how to start cutting, because I do not own any power tools, so this was all cut with hand tools. I found a handsaw that was suitable for the job, and cutting was not that big of a hassle.

Picture quality is not as on par as before, because the lightning was bad. The photos are also out of focus...

    The first cut.

With the flash on, it was better.

I had to file some of the handsaw’s handle as there was no room for it to fit.

I had to cut it in paterns because of the form of the handsaw.

Then I forgot to take more pictures but it involved a lot more cutting and a ton of filing.

    Backplate assembled. (somewhat)

    Hello everyone

This is my first build log ever written, so be gentle

My goal for this build is to fit an atx sized motherboard inside the case and to make it as silent as possible.

Most parts are going to be reused from my previous build, which was my first PC build, but I got bored of my case (Fractal Design Define R4 in white) and I have always wanted to do a build in G5 case, even before I have built my first PC.

    Parts I re-used:

    - Intel i7 3770K
    - Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H
    - Kingston Value Ram 16 GB
    - Samsung 840 SSD 500GB
    - Corsair TX650M power supply
    - Msi GTX 660ti PE
    - Noctua NH-D14 w/ 2x eLoop Fans
    - eLoop fan for exhaust
    - Bitfenix cable extensions

    Parts I bought:

    - Silverstone AP181
    - 2x Samsung 840 EVO SSD 120GB
    - Zalman ZM-MFC1 Plus fan controller

To mount the motherboard I will use a kit from Laserhive and there are only good things I can say about this company.

I got the case from a semi-local seller and I had to spend 100 euros on it, but considering that it is almost in pristine condition (small bump in the front of the side panel).
