    Bye

The fact that none of you can even read the thread like 3 under this one, makes me want to leave even more. I made this post to get the mods attention to delete my post after they gave me a warning for trying to stop a troller. This will be my last post on this forum.

    Bye

Then I will go through and manually delete all my post and requests all caches to be removed from Waybackmachine. I don't want to see a single letter that I have ever typed on this forum.

    Bye

Because I want all my posts deleted.

    Bye

Now can someone just point to a link where I can close my profile?

    Bye

I was going to devote a lot of time and effort to this forum. But after a act by a (IMO) foolish moderator, I choose to quit instead. Have fun 10x that WAN>LAN speed. Maybe some of you could watch the videos this forum is based on? Maybe?
  6. Actually no. The reason it's called a 100Mb switch is because of the throughput of the switch CPU, not the interface rates. Are you saying if you connect 16 CAT6 to a gigabit switch, will you get 16Gb throughput? I hope your trolling....
  7. Look of difference between speed between WAN>LAN and LAN>LAN. Pretty sure Linus even explained this in the video. What your asking is equivalent to this: This is a troll for anyone a bit too simple to realize.
  8. No, it covered WPA2 with AES. 2m35 seconds. Did you not watch the entire video?
  9. Do your LTT duty and watch more Techquickies.
  10. Your failure to see why needing know the model number of a device while troubleshooting it make it impossible for me to help you. I see now you don't need help, so thread closed.
  11. If a device can be put into bridged, AP,repeater, or adapter mode makes a big difference depending on the model number. You fixed the problem without knowing what you did. Hope it doesn't happen again.
  12. I like that you take the time to say what model devices you are connecting, but not the model of the gateway or router. Or who your ISP is. Garbage in=garbage out.
  13. Agree 100%. Only exception might be a VPN, but if modem/router is out of tech range for OP, then I think VPN is too.
  14. So you are asking if there is a product that will run a ethernet cable without running a ethernet cable? If so, no. Do you mean how do you get your PS4 online without running a cable? If so, why not wireless? The PS4 has a built in wireless adapter. Do you have a wireless router? If so, what model number? Powerline might work well, but then you have to buy stuff, and depending on which adapters you get, how your house is wired, and what wireless router you have, it might not even work better.
  15. The NETGEAR D6300 is a DSL modem/router gateway. It doesnn't produce a phone signal, it uses a phone signal to create the internet connection. The extra WAN port is if you want to put in AP or separate router mode. What device did you get from your ISP? "Triple Play 150" isn't a model, it's slang. Look for the actual model number, or call your ISP and ask. What device it is will determine if you can use your own router and get telephone. Most time telephone is output from the fiber terminal(ONT).
  16. What are your requirements for each connection? What are your priorties? Consistency(VOIP)? Latency(Gaming)? Throughput? If you are requirments are to get low latency 150Mbps to both the Xbox and gaming PC, I just don't think you can on your budget. The cheapest powerline I found was 22$, you would need 3 to make your arrangement work=66$ plus what ever shipping costs to your area. How well it works, or even if it works depends on how the different floors are powered. If they each have their own panel, it may not work, and you certainly won't get a good connection. The only thing I can think of that would cost 30-40 is a very cheap wifi repeater, but that is going to slow down your Wifi and add a lot of latency for gaming. Even buying Ethernet and getting the connectors and tools would cost more then 30-40. No offense, but I think your needs are bigger then your budget. Either reduce needs or increase budget. PS. We talking 30-40$ US?
  17. Is there a forum best suited for house electrical problems? Going to be hiring a electrician, but could use some advice on pricing and what to ask for. Have another thread over in networking, but now its less about networking and more about getting a working grounded electrical outlet near where the FIOS ONT will be. What is the best forum for this type of discussion? More info and pictures available on demand. Thanks.

    Idea for a fan

Well it could be both. What materials used, fan design, how many static magnets vs how many electric magnets. I could see it working as a 120mm fan for small HTPC's or networking equipment cooling. However it would need to be either shielded or in a environment where rare earth magnets wouldn't kill things. But most SSD tech wouldn't be effected. Also, any way it could be rigged to produce electricity? Like regenerative breaking? I imagine a cooler on a laptop that you could prop up in a stiff breeze to help charge your battery a tiny bit.

    Idea for a fan

The point isn't max airflow, but quiet scalable airflow. The outer part of the fan blades could still be used and provide identical output. With a typical motor, the force comes from the center, meaning F1D1=F2D2. But moving propulsion to the outer part of limb of fulcrum, less energy (but more speed) is needed to move the fan blade to produce equal RPM. That combined with the efficiency from magnetic levitation, and great micro scalability, I see it as being a tiny, low power fan for tablets or other small device. I also wanted to see if fan less air propulsion is a possibility, and could be incorporated as a hybrid. Could the same electric field provided by the electric magnets be channeled to move ionized air? Im thinking no, KIS, but interesting thought.

    Idea for a fan

This configuration is to 200mm scale. Figure to left(1) is from front, the star(fan) would spin to provide air-movement towards the observer of picture. Figure to right(2) would be 90degree left, and rotated 90 degrees and fit to scale in picture 1. The oval of the middle ring is just bad drawing, should be a second ring to devide the fan design with the outer hub of the inner ring.

    Idea for a fan

centrifugal force help with vibrations. Also notice how the ring is concave, further providing lateral movement protection. Last, even if someone press down on it as spinning, the worst would happen is concave edge would rest in convex rim.

    Idea for a fan

Just a stupid idea I had and I wonder if it's already been done. Basically it's a maglev fan. One of the big flaws I have always seen in fan design is the motor is in the inside of the fan head. This means less room for a fan design that can use the center, or hub of the wheel. Also, most fans rely on friction based barrens and lubrication for efficiency, something that hasn't changed for a very long time. Also, they rely on electric motors, while effective, are based on hundred(s) year old tech... that we are using in computers where a GPU that is a year old is..mehhh. So my idea is two fold; levitation and acceleration. Levitation would be the same tech you see when a globe hovers above a stand, or those levitating speakers or toys. See spoiler. It would work on a flat plan, with the magnets balanced to both provide gryoscoptic elements to make use of centrifugal forces. The inner disk would be as light as possible with only the thin supermagnets needed for elevation. The magnets would be spaced with neutral plastic, strong but light. The outer ring would also have magnets, but spaced with electrico magnets. This could be turned on/off similar to how a electric motor works, but with much less torque requires. Excuse my very crude 5min drawing. The star is just what MSpaint had available, but in real life it would be a modern fan design meant to emphasize low power, low noise, and central aerodynamics.
  23. Renters insurance....hahahaha. Thats a good one. :-) I needed a good laugh. I can't afford car insurance or food. Renters insurance is last on my mind. Remember, no job. Seriously though, the plan is to call National Grid and ask them to come out and check all their equipment(line, meter, ground, line to house?) because of evidence of tamper. That and mentioning switching to the electrical provider competitor I hope is enough for them to come out and at-least replace the ground if not the meter, with a new digital one. I also plan to have the land lady's "maintence guy" come over at the same time so if any infractions are found internally, those can be discussed with him and perhaps give us some pull with the slum lo...I mean landlord. The maintence guy is actually quite skilled in woodwork and lighting, and a nice guy, but he has to deal with the landlord's very tight purse strings. My plan is to get as much done spending as little out of pocket as possible. This is difficult for me because I am some what of a perfectionist, used to run a NOC back in the day, but now I have to work with with what I have. Unemployment while applying for disability sucks...but I won't cry you a river. BTW, anyone in New England US National Grid area have advice? Anyone with a digital meter? I want something I can pull data off somehow see usage, both real time, and if possible, over time. A phone app would be killer. No experience in the area though. Are my expectations too grand? If/when I get the work done, I will post updates with pictures of the process. I predict harsh judgement from the LTT crew.
  24. The landlord sold us the property without telling us it was a illegal grow site on a large scale. Police had to break the locks and she won't even pay to replace them. She gave us trouble replacing the 15$ fire alarms, I doubt she will want to spend thousands fixing the broken AND old electrical wiring. I am not the owner of the lease, only a sub-rent, so I don't have much power. You think I should play hard ball? I could look up RI law, and the lease, etc, but thats a lot of effort considering I think the only thing she will do is say "Your right, your out of the lease" and let us move, which we can't afford right now. Im going to ask some friends, see if anyone has electrical skills. I don't trust myself putting in a outlet when the electrical system is so sketchy.
  25. Yea thats a WHOLE other problem. I think there is a issue with the electrical ground in the house. Some outlets work fine, but the one in the kitchen, if you plug anything with a ground, even if not on, it will fiip a breaker that shuts off about 5 outlets and 4 lights, or 1/3 the house. The meter has a ground. There is also a coaxial ground on the cold water pipe, and there is what looks like a braided metal ground cable that runs somewhere, but still haven't tracked it. Don't you just LOVE inheriting other's people stupidly when renting? That would explain why so many of the outlets are GFCI. No ground so they ground each outlet to itself. So does that mean the FIOS install is a no? Can FIOS run power from the street? Or some how ground seperatly? I have a feeling putting in a proper grounded electrical outlet down there would run into the hundreds, if not thousands if the panel isn't code. The landlord won't swing for that. Maybe if I bust out the renter's permit, but I bet she CYA. I am going to call National Grid and see what they do outside, but as the magic ball says: "Outlook not so good"
