  1. i wrote and rewrote this post a few times. If you are easily triggered click away. Also i will not respond after this post. Question to Linus, So when you hand out those nice GPU's you flexed with in your Picture that i was Forced to see every time my browser opened YouTube. Did you imagine that those GPUs can do more then just become "game-scrap" ? Well have you? Have you considered how important a GPU is to a developer/startup developer ? What it can do for their productivity ? See everyone screams "there is opportunities!". Not if people don't have the means to access them. See in many countries those GPUs are so expensive that it will consume half of someone's yearly income. Now i hear you say "get something cheaper!" Many of us did, but a 1030 can only do so much. Onboard GPU can do only so much. That is what we have to work with. And we do work with it. Yes established developers can easily afford this hardware but not those who are new. So from my point of view. Linus when you hand out those GPUs to the "gaming community" know you are no better then the crypto miner, you are no better then other companies that generate tons of e-waste. Because in 5 years the gaming community would have trashed those cards for the next big and shiny GPU. Or sold them, remember these cards are worth a lot. But those that really needed those cards for productivity we can go to hell right? Every day i hope to see YouTube fall. I hope to see channels that simply abuse hardware disappear like a bad memory. I mean Linus look at your own editing rigs, do you think those editors will be able to do nearly as much work on 7 year old or 8 year old hardware with today's demands ? Yes Linus you and your team worked hard for what you have today. But honestly i think even you realize that hard work isn't enough anymore. Success means access to training, skill development and access to "good enough" hardware/software. As you know these are things that is not easily obtained anymore. So do whatever it is you where planning to do. Enable whom ever you wish to enable. Me personally i will count the days. Because everything eventually will fail. Maybe one day i will finally see "YouTube is gone" in the news. Well hopefully before i am to old to appreciate it. What a total waste of hardware.
  2. Unfortunately the reality is if you dig deep enough and do enough research you will find a toxic fan base for just about anything. It may not even exist in what we would call the normal and can exist in other more questionable publications and websites. There are so many examples to link them all will be an exercise in stupidity. The point to all this is, we live in a time where a person/individual will go out of their way to make a point regardless of what is right and what is wrong. They will just hammer on about something because it is "entertainment" and not because it hold value. I recall a video done by a Youtuber explaining that a technology is factually harmless and yet despite all that effort and research, individuals injected fiction and false claims into the technology that today we see individuals damaging infrastructure because of it. Freedom of opinion is one thing, harming others by form of action of victimization is something completely different. Unfortunately the effects will be the following: Moderation of publications Opinion pieces might be blocked outright. Removal of accounts and deletion of accounts Comments sections may be removed Freedom of speech may be lost. These are the facts and realities that WILL happen and IS happening. We are losing our ability to debate and more to the point we are losing it due to petty bickering. That to me is unacceptable.
  3. Topic: Bad following: Discussion bullet points: how a bad following can rune a good thing. signs of a bad following. A very long time ago, a game reviewer refused to review portal and portal 2 because of its fan base. Personally i never gave it a second thought until recently. Essentially that can happen to games, content creation and the type of content. Nothing is really immune. A few signs are people changing a topic. Example a reviewer can talk about one thing, then someone will make it about something else taking away context. Then you have the momentum following the new narrative and thus creating "false momentum". They will basically repeat the new narrative and continue to attack the original creator for things they simply did not say. Why am i writing about this? Simply put if "bad followings" are going to attack creators, i can see them disabling comments outright. That would be bad because there will be no conversation. However i can understand why creators are going to start doing this. Sad...
  4. Good day everyone, This post will contain the following: Social Media vs Social engineering What we should expect vs reality. What might be possible in future for the user. Social Media vs Social engineering. So here we are again in 2021 with companies wanting more and more control over our devices and apps we use. Ever tried to click no on those apps? Funny how they stop working then... The reality is any contract between a provider and a individual is for the most part none negotiable. We must agree, conform and allow or get out. Not to mention that social media can do a lot of harm. The sad truth is people literally do lose their livelihoods and even their lives. This is fact. The problem is when said social services take control of a narrative and push it forward via suggestion. This is not new and large scale testing has occurred that was documented. But this post isn't about regurgitating the facts. It is about the reality that social engineering is effecting us to the point that employees demand access to these services. The goal is to determine employment. The second part is, if opinion doesn't sit well with popular opinion, as we all know this also have significant fall out. The question is, did we sign up for it? Well according to the terms and conditions "yes we did" But what was our goal? Was it to become a product or to reach out to friends and families? Was it to communicate or was it to become a target for advertisements? Well we all know the answers to the above. The reality is we should expect to be respected and that our "NO" has real meaning. We must expect to be informed of how our data is collected and used. Also who is reviewing it and for what purpose. We should expect and demand protection and the like for this imperative to our physical and mental safety. Now for the section i am interested in: Upon a search I realized that it is now possible to host websites from our phones. Yes our hand held device can now actually start to host webpages and small or even old computers can do the same. What does this mean? It means you can create an email list and send your friends links to a page that is exclusively managed by you. It means that you control every aspect of every post and what is allowed to be posted. Forum like functionality is factually possible and the list of "control" goes on and on. My point is to reject platforms and go back to a time where we controlled our own online activities with by actively moderating and controlling a webpage that lives only on the device you actually own or rent. Why should we accept terms and conditions that give a company absolute control? Why should we click the agree button when we clearly don't agree to it? Only you the reader can make this choice, and yes it is a choice. It is up to us to take the control back from companies and show them that not only are we live without them we can create new tech to replace them. The developer side of this is really interesting and i think in a little while it will be possible to create the tools but to simplify it to the point that a none tech person can set something up to this effect. What do you think? Would you take the time to create and build a website that will live on your phone? Is this something you would consider? thank you for reading please take care.
  5. Good day everyone, this post will be about online Tutorials, classes. It will contain the following: How Tutorials can both help and hold a person back. Why planning is important Goals vs Reality. With all that out of the way, lets get started... ... ... So regardless of what service your are subscribed to, what classes you are taking it is safe to say at some point we need to learn stuff so that we can do stuff. In my opinion Tutorials and online classes are really great and the services provided are not bad at all. Yes some better then others but I feel it is fair to say that people can tell when a class is worth it and when it is not. But I will also say "give it time" sometimes it takes a bit before a class really becomes useful. But what is Tutorial land really? Now to be clear it is actually a very individualized experience and we may identify Tutorial land differently. For me it started out with a few coding courses that was "free" and turned out the classes was so old and so outdated and neglected that it had no value other then exploring the basics of coding. So i went to a site and grabbed myself a Java course. For me I thought Android "i now can do a little means i need to know a lot more about Java. Turns out that was a half truth because my previous course was so bad i actually burned months working trough it. So I ended up buying a second course on Android + Java. Then Kotlin came up and now i am stuck with Java + Kotlin + Android. Then I realized, i don't really know where this is going I better look at a few YouTubes do my homework a bit. Well I then had classes in C# + Unity + Java + Java Script + Kotlin + Android + Python + Linux + Linux scripting + HTML + CSS. Well Welcome to tutorial land. And structuring my life around ALL these studies made me burn my nights and days and every moment in between. I worked my ass off but realized I didn't retain much of all the info and yet more recommendations was made by every "research session. So at this point i said STOP and THINK ABOUT IT. What the hell is my goal again? See everyone and their pet rock has an opinion on what we should know. They have jobs in that area BUT it doesn't mean it is the norm for every single path. I then realized I shouldn't spend a second on anything if it doesn't take me to where i wanted to be. So i scaled down put many of the above classes on hold and focused on the important stuff I need to actually be able to earn real money. This became my focus. Planning became my most important tool. How many hours I spend working on projects, learning the courses and doing the actual work needed to be clarified, otherwise i jumped around like there was no tomorrow. Most importantly I planned for down time. Not a lot of down time but enough to get sleep, and not just live on coffee. I used my phone to plan out my day using simple alarms and giving each a meaningful Title. Then i mindlessly followed each alarm. This included everything from time to eat to time to sleep to everything in between. After a few weeks i stopped with the alarms because i was in routine and i managed to get to where i needed to be. And in many ways i am still building a foundation of what will be the rest of my life. See this is the goal section, the goal is to make a living the fantasy is to be the next coding rock-star. Life sadly just doesn't work like that. I am not saying you must limited your goals and dreams. I am saying disappointment is a real draining element when it comes to will power and overall mind set. So i kept my hopes HIGH and is still aiming for it. BUT i am content and that means i can live with my choices. This means I can sleep and move into what WILL be my future. Now I started very late and truth is Tutorials and classes as they exist now, only became available to me recently. YES they where always around BUT i had other limiting factors at play. That said I am grateful for the places that allow me to buy classes at affordable prices, i am grateful for the the people that took the time to make them. Because they afforded me an opportunity that I never thought I would have. So whenever you walk into tutorial land, I say welcome, enjoy your visit and remember IT IS ONLY A VISIT. Don't blind yourself with all the glitter. Remember your path and remember your goals. More importantly know yourself this include both your capability and restrictions. Take care and I hope you find enjoyment in whatever it is you are doing. thank you for reading.
  6. When it comes to ARM CPUs, it is fair to say that there are very small devices that can do a lot of work. That work is amplified because of web base services. Regardless of what i as the end user's use it is the service that i access that has the functionality. Laptop, tablet or desktop it doesn't matter at this point because my work flow remains the same.
  7. my current phone: Phone specs Type Super AMOLED Size 5.5 inches, 83.4 cm2 (~73.1% screen-to-body ratio) Resolution 1080 x 1920 pixels, 16:9 ratio (~401 ppi density) Always-on display
  8. To be fair we drifted off topic for a bit. But i think the future is here, and most of this stuff is becoming a norm. I think that is what companies like apple and others that will follow their model is counting on. That the end user must spend more money keeping their devices alive with subscriptions and other mandatory incentives. But wait... the day Google start to charge for gmail... That would be scary...
  9. No but the one i can have on me all the the time, the other not. See here is the thing. In a previous post i stated i got a good deal on a server with KVM support that i rent per month. Now what do i do with it? Well basically i use my phone to log into it and use it as my desktop. This means my phone is now my desktop computer. So once i did my work i email it to myself where i download it to a thumb drive and install the patch on my client's systems. Now why did i go to this extreme? Simple truth is, it works, i have a folding Bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo. So once i connect these to devices and log into my server it is effectively my desktop. I have a server grade CPU RAM and other functions and i can use it all in real time on my phone "provided i camp under my ISP's tower" and there we go. "ok the camping thing isn't real" BUT point is now i have 1 thing that can do what i need it to do. Not 2 or 3 things. So it is not about "space" or even what is practice. It is what works and a phone has a internet connection. It is build for that connection. very few laptops can take a mobile SIM. So if the phone can do it, why have the other stuff? i know it is not your use case and i truly respect that, but for me it was/is about what works. This works for me.
  10. Glad you ask, Firstly There was the Samsung S8 that had a proper desktop experience. Source See this was really a first for me, yes many phones CAN do this BUT few of them can do it properly and with minimum effort. Another product was one Linus and them reviewed a while back. Source This was really an eye opener for me and i thought that it had a lot of potential. Plugging your phone to this "laptop" basically made it a laptop. Now the point here is YES it is early days but you can see where the momentum for this is coming from. Other products that uses arm but is used for "desktop solutions" are the raspberry Pi, Now people have been working on turning it into a phone since 2014 and yes some solutions are just DIY others like using it as a laptop or even a desktop is more common but what stood out is that most of them can be used as "basic office PC hardware" and in advertisement signs stuff like that. So the concept for 1 device to do many things isn't new by any means. But it is fair to say that the hardware evolved dramatically. Now the last conclusions was actually from LTT again when I watched their review on the ARM based apple computer and what it was able to do. It is powerful it is not big once he opened it up and yes a bit power hungry "but that is where the docking station comes in" Not to mention it can also have a thermal solution. The fact is the potential is here for all to see and i don't think Samsung or Apple is done. Samsung knows how important a desktop solution is on its phones, to the point that it is now a function. Apple is heading towards the same thing because customers want this function. Not just the function BUT also having less devices that can do more is really within the strategy. That is why so many services like GeForce Now is becoming a thing. Now to answer your question, if you have the above mentioned "laptop solution" and all you have to do is to upgrade your phone to give it new life, That sounds like a win because many people are on contract phones and will upgrade within 24 months. Consider what a laptop cost why would you want to spend double? Unless if you need something really powerful. Then sure this solution will not be the right one "for now" BUT again now that the door is open for ARM who knows how powerful their solutions will become in the near future. Lastly i am not pushing for this change but am hopping it will happen. As someone that needs to travel A LOT for work and having to drag a office with me ALL THE TIME it sucks. So if i can streamline that i would gladly do so. So for me i like the idea behind it and i am hopeful that it will become a thing because of my use case. Yours may not be so focused on it.
  11. All Good, Lets say ARM will not get into the server race until a much later date, however a lot of server grade components does contain ARM already like routers switches and so on. Not all of them but some of them. See this is where Soft solutions get into the mix. If a company can buy a box configure it to do whatever then chances are that ARM will be found in "some" of those soft solutions. The fact is that a lot of infrastructure used to use low level hardware. This however is changing as even a switch has a TON of work and components that can now be upgraded. This is not new for many years now. BUT it does open the door to ARM in the server grade market. Another important thing is the death of the laptop. See Apple made a massive statement with their ARM CPUs and that is that it CAN do desktop work. How i see the future is a phone being plugged into a charging dock that will activate more functionality because it has constant power. That means the phone becomes the laptop. We have seen this happen to a degree. But i think manufacturers may include a second CPU that is dormant when on battery but will get used once plugged into its docking station. Any company will look at this and nod their head because it will work with cloud on so many levels that it is downright scary. You can even encrypt the phone to a point that some functions will only work when docked at the work place. There is so much potential here. I think it is where all this is pointing towards. Yes it is early days but i am almost 100% sure this is the future as it makes financial sense "to a degree" Right now many employees are given phones, laptops and desktops. Then there is infrastructure cost. If companies can eliminate 40% of that or even higher you can be sure they will role out something like this. Most jobs don't need very powerful computers it is just fact. So i can see something like this happening.
  12. Actually no... See a few things are factually happening. Intel is in a bit of a spot to the point that they are looking at outsourcing and factually is being pushed to do so. It is not just in the movies where this stuff happens. In real life if a company doesn't do well investors jump ship, they always have and always will.
  13. Hi everyone, Post summery: Today i am looking into ARM and the possibilities that exist around it. Also looking into INTEL and X86's future in general. Hypothesis of what the future of computing may look like. Let's get into it, When you do a google you will find that "ARM is a family of reduced instruction set computing architectures" The short of it is, it can do a lot of things really well and can even be dedicated with custom instructions to be supper efferent both process wise and power wise. Now ARM isn't new and fact is, it was a good solution for industry long before a consumable. Anyone from Texas Instruments to NVIDIA with their Tegra APX 2500 back in 2008 is nothing new to many of you. But what does all of this mean? ARM is very good at prototyping and ARM is very good at keeping cost down "relatively" not to mention it is widely used in almost anything today, we might even find one in a smart toaster soon. Point is ARM if there processing being done chances are you will find an ARM CPU doing the work. So yes stating that arm is versatile is an understatement and judging from its beginnings to where it is now it is safe to say ARM is really hitting the market hard. Apple being the most recent but not the first to deploy it in desktop and laptop. I would argue that the Raspberry Pi was ahead of its time as it was could be used as a desktop, laptop, for prototyping and things like firewalls and the like. Let's be honest for a moment Linux and Raspberry Pi really demonstrated what is possible. So i stand to be corrected but i would say Apple based their choices of the success of the Raspberry Pi. So what does this mean? Well for developers it means a lot more freedom to create multi-platform implementations as the operating systems are becoming similar in architecture. So with its obvious limitations ARM will become document and is why Microsoft is also looking into ARM find the SOURCE here. This will open many doors "depending" on how Microsoft is going to play it. But what about the X86 CPU's? Well depending on what you use your computer for, we may see the end of this technology and it will happen sooner rather then later. See it is not about the gamer, or day to day electronic consumer it is and will always be about industry. If both commercial industrial industries pushes for arm solutions "desktop, server then the private sector will follow as manufactures make their choices on money/investment and demand. As demand grows for ARM the X86 will finally be out done and with it a lot of functionality might actually be lost. The reality is for a long time a "do it all" CPU was really handy but it was also stood still hitting the 64bit mark at 2003 it never really moved past that. Yes core counts and other innovations did happen. However it is been a very very long road for the X86 i think emulation will be its future until it gets dropped. This will not be a fast process but from the look of things it may actually not be a slow one as well. I think we are about to see a industry change on scale we haven't seen since IBM lost its dominance so many years ago. As for my Hypothesis, i think ARM is going to take over, but we have seen this type of thing before. But what we haven't seen is the price difference. Example an INTEL NUC or mine computers may be replaced by Raspberry Pi solutions that will greatly reduce cost and make computing over all much more affordable. This is already happening as many developers is actively developing incredible solutions to work with devices like the Raspberry Pi. Also consider the NVIDIA Jetson Nano that is also a great tool. But with Microsoft looking into ARM means the adoption of ARM solutions is a reality. The bigger question here is, what does this mean for NVIDIA, AMD and INTEL? Well if they don't adapt they might find themselves out of the loop. I mean think about it, a Raspberry Pi running windows with a nice GPU while remaining cost effective sounds like something i would invest in. Just saying... But yea time will tell. As always thank you for reading please take care cheers
  14. That is a great point and i think it is why there needs to be better communication between the publisher and modding community. To be fair i feel a lot can happen if they work with each other.
  15. Hi everyone, Happy new year if you are already at new years otherwise enjoy the festivities. Post summery: The Following post will contain a topic i keep close to heart, Modding games. It also ask the question should someone that spend the time to create the mod be allowed to get paid for it? Should payment systems block individuals to get paid? Right, Lets start here, Right as a programmer i like to tinker with with games that allow me to do so. Some games can be modded to the extreme others not so much. However I feel that modding a game adds to its overall experience and give it a much longer life then it otherwise would have had. Meaning modding keeps the gaming community's interest well after it's popularity and support. Now Multiplayer games that can be modded really adds to the overall experience and even help to form and maintain online communities. Keeping the interest going and making the game fun in new ways. However modding becomes tedious and momentum dies down unless the person developing the mods get a little something for their trouble. In the end of the day, it is still time that is consumed in creating something that will add value to a existing product. This allow the product itself to maintain interest. Now normally people don't mind the small amounts that is asked. Usually not a lot because they know that selling mods cheaply means more people will buy it. That said not everyone agrees with this model and I personally understand and respect it but doesn't support it. But it is a lot of work, lets be clear on that part. Some mods can take months to complete, specially if one cannot do it full time. Now here is the problem area, most game publishers support the modding community, but some support them only if they give the mods away for free. Essentially forcing individuals to "work for free". Remember most publishers make all their money from the game and some will add value to it by hosting a paywall server. Modding essentially isn't something they are interested in but because modding keeps the momentum going they "allow it". However all of this changed when some publishing companies started to put pressure on "payment systems" to essentially block the modding community from getting paid. Now essentially the deadline was set on March 2021 sometime but right now it seems to be a reality time will tell. To be clear it is the publishers property and that should be respected. But how long will that same game last without the modding community? Why not support the modding community and allow them to get a little something for their work? Now i will agree the argument can go both ways. Me personally i do not buy/play any game that i cannot mod. It for me is important because it allows me to do some really cool stuff. So I leave the question to you, Do you believe game publishers should just leave things as they are? Or do you think it is the right move to pressure "payment systems" into not allowing payments? I hope this simple post allowed you to think a little about what is really "valuable" to you. That you would start to look at how publishers treat their following. These things are important moving forward because what you decide today will have an effect on future rules, regulations and policies as well as how they get enforced. Please take care and be safe. thank you for reading.
  16. Look my country has a very well document and very serious problem when it comes to wastefulness and how situations are handled "questionable or not" i can add facts here but it may be frowned upon so i digress. However there is a upside. See eventually rare "none renewable" parts will run out. This is fact, it may only happen in 10 or 20 years from now but it will happen. Now there is this famous song and in one of the lines it is stated "the future will view all of history as a crime" BUT those companies will still exist and then i am sure their practices will be made public and courts world wide will act because they will be forced. Then those companies will face liquidation and their names will stain the pages of history. Will it help anything ? No, sadly justice is always to late because the crime already happened so their is no closure. No matter how severe the punishment is, it will not change the facts. What are the facts? Well google the problems countries have with e-waste and judge for yourself if any action will actually rectify the problem. Last example and a bit of a personal one. I live in a mining town and in the time i lived here not a single mine that was closed down was ever rehabilitated. they just leave the mess behind and now we have chemicals in our water sources and so on and so forth. This makes me angry, BUT now i am being forced to buy disposable goods that are massively overpriced just so that i MUST trash it makes me really angry about the situation hence these posts. But again TIME WILL BE THE JUDGE but my bet is humanity will wake only when it is to late. If history is anything to go on... ... ... ... ... ...
  17. Targeted advertising is a reality today, Billions are being spend to log our movements, analyze our behavior so that we get "targeted advertisement" meaning they know what we want, what we are looking for and they will push products that we are most lightly to buy. this is reality and has been the case for some time. See the individual assume that others will follow once the message is out in the wild. Truth is people in general really may care a little, but over all they just continue to do what they do. Since the outbreak of the global pandemic there was thousands of videos made to educate the public and yet, how many video uploads are there with individuals refusing to protect themselves and others not to mention their families ? Now consider the seriousness of the situation against the one we are addressing and you may perhaps agree that we really cannot trust individuals to make the right choice because the facts are what they are. Thus as much as i dislike the idea for government to get involved, clearly we need their involvement. We need regulations, we need protection and we need the industry to comply so that the end user can benefit from a properly made device. The industry will not listen to the individual because they have more money then most governments. Thus they can afford to push on and take a hit or two. BUT with mandatory regulations they simply must comply or face harsh penalties or even being blocked from selling anything out right. The last part "being blocked from selling goods" will scare investors to act more responsibly and invest in businesses that do comply. See once the investors are spooked and they stand to lose, then and only then may we see an improvement. But time will tell if we will get poisoned by landfill or will we win this fight. Time will be the judge in the end.
  18. a few days ago i went to look at a new laptop for a family member. Every single laptop in the price range i had in mind was crap. It had virtually no functionality other then being a very basic word processor with web access. In short what was on offer was bad really bad. Then my mind wondered what happened to all those nice laptops of yesteryear? The devices that wasn't sold and returned. It is such a hole that i cannot find any information other then "they get send back" send back to what, to whom? I mean i am more then willing to buy an old device if it works well enough. Most of the time laptop batteries isn't that hard to replace. Mind you it is not easy BUT i am willing to put in the time knowing that my family member is actually getting something they can actually use. it is just scary all round and it shouldn't be...
  19. Good day everyone, The section below is about Planned adolescence, normally is a technology with a known failure point placed into a device so that it will only last for a set amount of time. Disposable Technology is normally a device that that will not be repaired but will be replaced when broken, and is not to be confused with a "one time use" technology or "single use technology" Now I can start this post about the evolution of the mobile device and the tons of landfill it produces each year. I can copy and paste statistics and environmental study impacts and can even add in a few facts about some of the parts mobile phones have that is made from resources that cannot be renewed. This post however is not about all that. It is not about someone's income or what they can and can't afford. This post is about a real problem the end user faces when buying a device. Firstly many devices simply is hard to repair or cannot be repaired outright. Many devices are expensive to obtain and the user expect a reasonable amount of use before having to replace the device. So as a consumer we must now ask our Governments to really set-out mandatory rules for companies to follow. This is important to us for many reasons other then just the use of the device. It is important because our environment ends up being negatively effected. E-scrap is a industry on its own BUT it is also a HUGE problem for many countries and the fallout does effect the health and safety of the individual. This is already a problem. So this post suggest that we should ask our Governments to regulate technology by imposing laws and fines on them if they don't comply. These factors can include: how long the device must last, This must include software support. its maximum cost "if it is considered to be disposable" So that manufactures are capped on profiting from poorly made devices. how recyclable the device is, how many components is considered to have a "negative impact on the environment "both stand alone and accumulative effects as both are important" Repair-ability as well as responsible disposal. Now this list must be a lot longer then what it is and should include many more situations. It is no longer about the device and its function, it is about companies taking responsibility on all fronts. See if a company doesn't want me to replace a cracked screen or a dead battery then they should be held accountable and be limited on how much profit they get from the individual user. For example if the phone cannot be repaired it must be considered as a disposable device. Thus their must be a limit on the maximum asking price and take FULL responsibility to recycle the device. Now it is true that companies can retaliate but at this point in time considering how massively profitable they are, we as consumers have no grounds for demanding anything. We simply must comply or go some place else. Well why should this be our only options? In the end of the day we are the consumer and we should have the ability to demand that companies take responsibility and be more reasonable and flexible towards the end user. Right now we if you look at the situation it is fair to say that we have almost no say in anything anymore. So this post was not to provoke or demand. It was to make us think, is what companies are doing fair to us, how does it effect us, and what the consequences of those effects are. I think a great many of us are concerned and is wondering why steps towards consumer protection hasn't been taken. Thank you for reading and be safe.
  20. Here is the reality of smart phones, laptops and other devices. Companies will move towards a "disposable" form factor regardless what the people want. They know as long as the device is almost impossible to fix, they will probably sell more of those devices. Again consumer protection should be considered by governments and place down regulations so that devices can be properly maintained in future. As all of us know there are problems with wireless charging, and 1 of the critical failure points in any mobile smart device is the battery life. So once again planned obsolescence will become a factor in future electronics. This is not a good situation for the end user at all. Yes smart wireless charging might be really cool tech and yes they might have solved a lot of the problems this tech had BUT it also means that any attempt at repair WILL be effected by this form factor. A law should exist that will allow the end user to repair their device and allow them to keep it running. The fact that they are selling the headphones as at best a inconvenience given that most of us already have some kind of Bluetooth solution BUT again we are now subject to a second "disposable device" with no way to truly repair and maintain it. The biggest problem is do we as end users see a expensive devices AS disposable ? The second question is disposable tech sustainable given the rarity of their parts? The last question is how will it effect our environment? Just saying people should start to ask their governments to push regulations because planned obsolescence and disposable electronics will seriously effect the end user in many many more ways. Again right now it is only a wireless charger but the bottom line is it is about so much more.
  21. I got washed for being to technical so i left all the network stuff out of it sorry.
  22. hi everyone, This post will cover me renting an inexpensive server with KVM. What my abilities are and how I use it Answer the question, will it replace my PC. Lets get into it. Right OldSock you fart why did you rent what is basically a useless rig? Well lets start with the server, It has 8Gb of ram 2Cores and 20Gb hard drive space. BUT it also have unlimited bandwidth. LOL OldSock that is hardly even a server! You will be right, from a pure specs standpoint it is hardly a server. Fact is it can barely do what I need it to do BUT it also have unlimited bandwidth. So I log into it, Install my OS of choice "i will not disclose" and my tools of choice "i will not disclose" Once i got everything setup and my custom scripts fired up, that simple server with its unlimited bandwidth can do what I will simply call "work" and it will do so without downtime, without me having to worry about it physically. I can get access to it from any of my devices like phone, tablet and laptop so now I can do work at any location with no problem at all. So I can now scale up or scale down, I can be on 24/7 and be in control as long as I have "a internet access point" it doesn't even have to be a good one. Once done with the work I simply push it to online storage and download a backup. This way I am able to do a lot with very little and that is the point to this post. Many companies want to sell us a lot of services but in the end some of us simply don't need a lot to do what we need to do. That I feel gets overlooked in today's world. Thus if you are thinking about a setup like this I say go for it. Yes there will be some situations that you need to address. Yes it is a PAIN to get use to BUT it for the most part it works. Actually it work really well if you find a good provider. My conclusion is this, If you need basic computing done and you need uptime, bandwidth... Do some research figure stuff out test it on a VM make sure you know what your goal is and understand what is needed. Then you will find a really cool solution. If you are a computer "user" that needs a solution like this, I hope you will find a great solution like I did. enjoy
  23. With standard electronics i would like better cooling solutions that are oil base and not water base as oil don't evaporate and can be none conductive just to help things along a bit. A nice to add will be a supper heat conductor to get hot away from the CPU that can survive with basic maintenance "repairable" as they are simply wasting materials in the landfills. Above all i would like to see DELL bring out wall mountable screens as their offerings in my country CANNOT be wall-mounted unless you fork out a special adapter that cost more then the screen itself. It is just selfish of DELL to pull this trick on their customers and really there should be a law against companies f_ck!ng us over with every tiny little thing. Why only allow for wall mounts on their premium models? if i wanted an expensive screen i would not even consider a dell. Sorry for the rant but DELL is starting to p!ss me off to the point that i will not consider them on a large rollout or office refurbishment/upgrade. My customers pay a lot of money and honestly many of them don't want to see dell anymore anyway. Because of these stupid unwarranted limitations on what is considered "office equipment". But Dell will learn this the hard way when their sales start to drop. In short don't f_ck!ng kneecap us all the f_ck!ng time we put money in your greedy corporate wallet DELL. But i digress... In short for 2021 i would like to see wall-mounts become the standard for all screens of all price ranges. It makes adopting these screens easy and easy to role out. I would also like to see a law on factory standards where companies MUST share compatibility to stop wasting so much resources. Propitiatory hardware is BS and it should be outlawed for commercial use but i do understand the need for it in high security situations where custom hardware can add a layer of security. But overall if my client want to swap out a board they should be able to do so without having to buy a new tower. More and more of my customers demand I build them towers with standard hardware and it is at the point now that even laptops are being pushed out because of their repair limitations on office models "mostly" not gaming stuff.
  24. a lot of people are working on new tech all the time. If you are like myself you like to know more on how the brain works and how it can interact in new ways. So i am figuring some stuff out both hardware and software side of things in my spare time. i was wondering what "new" tech got your interest. my two mentions will be: Brain–computer interface Image Reconstruction From Human Brain Waves in Real-Time // good read actually google this one. Anyhow what new stuff would you like to see...
