  1. Yes it were a bunch of small files. The drive was formated in exFat with a cluster size of 4kb, which seems pretty normal to me. Even if you'd count the extra space it might have taken per file as 4kb, you'd only have less than 32mb margin. That said, drive was reformated to NTFS, default cluster size and it works normal again.
  2. Just a folder with a couple of smaller files in it, I mean 6041 of them.
  3. Hi there I was backing up one of my computers when I noticed I was running out of space after a few folders already. The PC has a 1TB disk and it's a 2 TB backup drive, so I thought that was a little weird at least, I went to check on the file sizes and this is what I discovered. The size on disk is a couple hundred gigabytes while the original file size is only 70 megs, how comes?!? I'm currently reformatting the drive to see if that helps, but I wanted to share this already. Greetings Flor Sanders
  4. It's true Ryzen's infinity fabric works differently than older/other systems and does actually make more use of the higher speeds. Though suggestion only 1 stick of ram is just crazy, again, considering how Ryzen's infinity fabric works. If you get 8GB of the faster ram, at least get dual channel memory (2x4gb)! Ryzen benefits hugely from this in comparison to sheer clock speeds. I'd still say 16GB at 2133MHz or 2400MHz is de better choice over 8GB 3000MHz... There aren't a lot of real world applications except really specific professional workflows that benefit more from having faster ram... Sweet spot of course is between both, and get 16GB of decent speed, but if that isn't an option... Capacity over speed...
  5. Oh, almost watched over this, this is it indeed, thanks!! It's stupid it isn't possible to outright disable it though. This was still better than being stuck with it.
  6. Oh, such a nice "feature" Is there any way to disable it? I have chrome and such running in the background when shutting down, and it keeps popping up anyways.
  7. I'd get 16GB less MHz, in my opinion 16GB of ram is quite essential in a pc. I'm rocking 16GB 1600MHz on DDR3 just fine, which means you'll certainly be fine ;-)
  8. Hi So I'm a bit troubled with this issue. Ever since the latest windows 10 update, every time I restart/power on my computer Bittorrent, chrome and OneDrive all open, even though I absolutely disabled them in startup programs. I also checked the Bittorrent setting for "start when windows starts" and turns out I already disabled that as well. This is happening on my laptop as well as my desktop, so I thought this would be a wider spread issue, though I can't find any documentation about this online. Any ideas on how to stop this? I'm getting mad about it... Thanks a lot! Flor
  9. I had thought about that too, and I would strip the cables as close to the connectors as possible to bridge the rest of the way with wires with a slightly longer gauge, to have minimal power loss over it, but it seems like if it would be that easy some company should be producing a beefy long cable, I'm afraid I won't get a super reliable connection. Thanks for the suggestion, this will certainly remain a possibility
  10. Hi all! I have an issue I can't find a solution to. What does one do at such a point? Go to one of the most awesome communities on the internet and ask for help! So with a few changements in my workspace I would have my laptop set up on one desk with a whole bunch of technical peripherals which would be a pain in the *** to move around. Now I need to be able to control the other computer from another location in the office (about 5 meters away). The only thing I'd need would be audio, a display, keyboard and mouse at that location (there is a wall in between, though running some cables wouldn't be an issue). I heard from these wonderful USB C or thunderbolt 3 docks, and I was planning to pass just one into the other room and pass all the other IO on from there. A bit like what linus did in this project: (but with the newer thunderbolt 3 standard) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NshXgisNly4 However after a search on amazon I came to realize that finding a 5 meter thunderbolt 3 cable is apparently impossible. So I'm a bit worried about the feasibility of this plan. I had also thought powering second location with a raspberry pi with remote desktop software, which actually would seem like a very good alternative the more I think about it... If you'd have any other ideas or suggestions that might help me to solve this issue, please let me know! Greetings Flor Sanders
  11. That's what I ended up trying, it didn't work... Thanks anyways
  12. I'm using a TP-link WR-841ND Getting decent enough results for a very good price. Not fantastic for range, but if you're within 8 meters you should get a solid 40mbs at least. If you would have a bigger budget: TP-LINK archer C7, great option for speed and range!
  13. https://www.cnet.com/products/asus-zenbook-pro-ux550/preview/ Oh that still needs to come out... Interesting! I will certainly wait for that one to see the reviews before jumping on the xps 15.
  14. I won't need any of that, and if I would need that I can use uni hardware for that. Wasn't aware of the zenbook pro. I like it... But I preferably want a 1080p screen for the better battery life... (Yes... I'm not normal) The aero 15 can be imported, but It'll cost me 2250€... If I need to pay this I will... But that's a lot of money Thanks for the help!
  15. I also checked out the Gigabyte Aero 15, but that's not available for sale here. Furthermore I'm not aware of any laptop that has the same purpose as the XPS 15 (except maybe the macbook pro 15 inch... But we all know that's too expensive). PS. I don't like the aesthetic of the Alienware lineup...
