  1. Hey, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question. I'm looking at starting a Plex server that I can run most of the time, 24/7 would be ideal as I have a girlfriend living in the US (I'm in the UK) so she can watch stuff when I'm asleep. Anyway would a Windows OS be sufficient for this or should I go down the route of FreeNAS? I know that FreeNAS has a (for lack of a better term) plugin for Plex. I'd like to be able to download shows(obvious only ones I own rights to :P) or rip them off of my BluRays to store on the system. I'd like to be able to do this on the Plex server so my main rig isn't running programs or downloads in the background, I know it would be easy to do this with a Windows machine however running the server headless would be my preferred way of setting it up. Both my main rig and the Plex server will be connected via ethernet and not WiFi so I'm not fussed about transfer speeds. I have never used a FreeNAS based system so I am unsure of it's capabilities. Would I be able to install a BluRay read/writer drive into it and get my BluRays onto the system that way? Any advice is appreciated
  2. Sounds easy enough! Only problem is I have no LEDs or resistors laying about
  3. Ohhh that could work, I didn't realise that that was an option. Thank you! I'll look into those
  4. Cheers for the advice, I was worried that would be the case
  5. Hi all, I'm very new to networking so this is something I'm not sure about at all. I've cut the ends off of some ethernet extensions to wire into wall sockets. I'm in the UK so running new wires isn't a cheap or easy thing to do, hence why I used an extension so I don't ruin the cables that run from the router.. I've attached a couple photos of the extensions and the colours of the individual cables. They are all different colours and were not in twisted pairs when I cut it open. Is anyone able to help me figure out what cables are meant to go where.
  6. So, I've been tempted to setup a Plex server for a while now. I've toyed about with it on my main pc but never had a server per se. I've got a decent physical catalogue and would like to start with ripping these onto my pc, seeing as I have already paid for the license to view these this shouldn't be an issue. Now my problem is, I cannot find a good reputable software that I can rip the dvds onto my PC. Any suggestions?
  7. Aight!!! Cheers fellas I think I'll go for the Silent Wings 3 cos they look a hell of a lot better and have great reviews.
  8. Hey guys, I am going to be rebuilding my watercooling loop in the next couple of weeks and would like to know the best fans for temps but also silence (I know it won't be completely silent but you get my drift). Silence is preferable over temps but would like to get a good balance of the two, I am currently using Corsair AF140s and SP120s on my radiators and all 5 fans give off a rather annoying groaning sound periodically.

  10. Fair enough I have never had a bad experience with any of their PSUs, even the cheap ones, when parting out building and testing systems I've build for friends and family.
