When AMD presented a threat to their monopoly. So....not in quite some time lol

arout77 reacted to Siman in Buying a Processor for HTPC; Recomendations?
I have my HTPC in another room in a server rack but if your looking at 100% fanless look to an extreamly low TDP, I5 6600T or Xeon E3-1265L V3. Hook it up with a 970 or a Fury nano...

Here, try these-

I'd recommend picking up a desktop microphone instead for better audio quality. Here's an excellent offering from Samson-

You could also go with something like a Newer NW-700 for about $20, but you'll need a stand, and a USB to XLR adapter that can supply the extra power a condenser mic needs.

arout77 got a reaction from EdInk in Is there really any actual use to a custom loop for your CPU anymore?
Only when cost is entered into the equation. And of course, that is a big consideration, one that prohibits many people from going custom loop in the first place. But I can guarantee you 100% that cost aside, there is no AIO or air cooler out there that gets temps as low, especially for extended periods, as my 120.3 EK-CoolStream +120.2 rads, XSPC Raystorm Pro block and D5 Photon 270 res/pump does for my 5820k. It's very important to stress test for at least a couple hours when comparing water temps, to allow for heat soak and coolant to stabilize; that's when you'll see the true cooling potential of any given water-based cooling setup.
Custom loops are by no stretch of the imagination a reasonable solution when cost is a factor; they offer terrible return on investment. But...done right, it will let you push your system further than any AIO or air cooler can.
So...to summarize my little mini-rant, it does serve a purpose -- it is directed towards the same people it has always been intended for, the people who push their hardware to the absolute limits for day to day use. Outside of those people, I'd agree, there isn't a whole lot of benefit

To clarify, was just speaking from a gaming perspective; they're about even in that area. In most other areas, the 5820k will wipe the floor with the 6700k

Sure it does. One of the main reasons for watercooling is the dead silence of the computer under full load, which for a lot of people, is worth the investment in itself. Add on the cooler temps and sweet looks, I'd say it is very well suited for daily use

I still say go with 5820k. If DX12 really leverages multicores in the future, that's a win. General use outside of gaming, 5820k is a win. Besides, neither is going to be a bottleneck in any sane setup; save for those quad Titan X SLI builds

That's precisely why you're supposed to run the GPUs in a seperate loop
Custom loops are only worth it for knuckleheads like myself who OC their components like they stole it. The further you push your components, the less value you get in return per dollar spent....but make no mistake, other than the more extreme methods of cooling, a custom loop is the only way to go if you're trying to get the absolute maximum results. Is it worth it? Depends on how you look at it, what your financial situation is, etc...
