  1. I was looking at it but ouch $1050.00 on newegg.ca and is it really better than the acer with it's ips panel for $150 more? Linus doesn't think so and neither do a lot of other reviews. And yes I really do want to keep my current GPU until the next gen of nvidia is released.
  2. Thanks for the input guys but I think you are both failing to see that I am in Canada and thus paying Canadian prices not to mention taxes both federal and provincial which amount to 15%. There is no way I can afford a reasonable monitor upgrade and a 980ti or 980 or R9 for that matter. That is why I want to go bawl to the walls on a monitor now and ugrade my gpu later. I will obviously see a much better bang for my buck compared to buying a 980ti which comes to $1000.00 canadian all in and keeping my shitty monitor that I currently have for another year till I can afford the upgrade. Especially given that I am reasonably certain for whatever I spend today on a gpu I could get a lot more for my money a year from now
  3. 980 is about 600.00 cad plus taxes so approx $700 doesn't leave me much of a budget for a monitor maybe around 250 bucks. That's why I am planning to spend the cash on a monitor now and next summer spring for a new gpu my current monitor is a pos
  4. hi I am looking for a new monitor for my gaming rig (specs in sig). I would like to keep it under $1000.00 CAD. All this keeping in mind that I will almost certainly be upgrading my gpu next summer or fall. I am a little torn on whether I should get the \ Acer Xb270hu which is on sale right now for $900.00 CAD or the Acer XB280hk which is going for 749.99! I am open to other suggestions.but those were the two I have researched mostly up until now, I had a couple questions about the pros and cons of these two monitors 1.With my current 770 I know I will never run aaa titles at 4k. How would a monitor like the 28inch 4k acer handle running these games at 1080p or lower 2. If I choose the more expensive XB270hu, which by all accounts is the most breathtaking gaming monitor many have ever seen. Will my 770 be able to take full advantage of this monitor? Can it run bf4 or shadows of mordor at 1440p at high settings. Currently it does a great job at 1080p in both games thanks for any insight you guys can provide
  5. Should of mentioned that I am in Canada and a 980ti is minimum $800 plus taxes and shipping so over 900 bucks
  6. Good day all, EDIT I am in Canada and I pay 15% vat so 980ti is my whole budget I have around $1000.00 I could spend on an upgrade for my gaming rig. I currently am running 4770k at stock 16gb ddr3 @1866 MSI gtx 770 2gb samsung 840pro ssd and the weak link in my setup which is an old syncmaster bx2450. I am looking for input on where I should best spend the cash. Options I am looking at are 1. sell my 770 for peanuts and buy a 980ti this still leaves me with a crappy old monitor. 2. Keep my 770 and buy a new monitor. 3.save my money and make the jump to newer gpu and monitor when the next series of nvidia cards are released ( I am assuming that will be next spring) I was leaning towards keeping the 770, buying a nice 4k monitor and running my games at 1080p until I buy a new gpu. I am certain that the next gen gpus will not only perform better at 4k but will also do so for much better price/performance. I think that will require a jump to a new version of windows since I am running 7 still and at least on my 4k tv it scales horribly. What are your guys thoughts? I am open to suggestions. Thanks
  7. IMHO the more reviews you can do the better. Well positioned value products deserve more representation and badly valued or useless products need to be exposed. I think we are all a guilty at one time or another of overbuying, getting ripped off or overspending our means. As someone with access and insights into consumer electronics, you do important work educating the buying public and in some instances I am sure the manufacturers as well.
  8. Great video. I would love to see a build guide video for the mini itx one. Could it possibly be an amd itx build? I never hear about options for amd based small form factor builds. Is there a reason for that?
  9. So a quick update to this post. I went out and bought a new router. I splurged and bought the Asus Rt-AC66U. I brought it home and all my devices connected no problem except for my brothers pc. He was using a dlink wireless n150 model dwa 125. It is a very old usb adapter.I even tried it on my pc which is right next to the router but it still would not pick up my 2.4ghz ssid . The router was running in mixed mode and other 2.4ghz N devices were picking it up, but the adapter was able to connect to the hotspot on my phone when I tested it. So my poor brother was forced to buy a new wireless adapter. He chose to take advantage of the wireless ac capability and bought the Asus AC1900 PCE-AC60. I can tell you when combined with this router even from two floors below he gets a great connection. Most of the time he is connected at 1300mbps but it drops to 900 at some points. At over $300.00 (for the router and pci adapter ) it was an expensive upgrade but well worth the money. I would just caution you that it seems some older devices just wont pick up the ssid from this router. Even though I had devices as old as wireless g connected without issue the above mentioned dlink adapter could not pick up this new router.
  10. I welcome more of these videos. I will always want to keep up on pc components and new features and technologies. Although I do build machines for friends and families quite often, they usually tend not to be the newest high end stuff most of the videos focus on. I only build a high end machine for myself once every 2-3 years and things change so quickly that most of the videos I have watched are irrelevant by the time I do. That being said this stuff is more relevant to me in the short term and I would love to see more videos in this series on cheap cool devices that I can think about purchasing right now. Even more cool when you inform me about interesting kickstarts or indigogos.
  11. Should it give me the range i need or I will still most likely need a second router in the basement?
  12. My only concern with that is that I then need to buy 2 new routers instead of one and wireless is already full of crowding and interference in this area. Should I buy 2 AC routers? Or Maybe 1 AC for my apartment and then an N for him in the basement... TBH 2 routers is the last thing I want to do but if it's the only way to get reliable internet for him I guess I will have to consider it.. What about power line? We live in the same building but are on different metered sub-panels... I would imagine power line cannot help me if we are not on the same panel
