  1. Budget (including currency): $450 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Assassin's Creed, Tomb Raider, and fallout. Light video editing in 1080 Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): i5-4590 (no OC, standard cooler), H97 micro-atx mobo, EVGA 970SSC 4gb, 16gb DDR3 1330, 250gb SSD (x2), non-modular power supply. I don't have the cash to over pay for a new GPU. I never really ran this one hard, but the 4gb seems to be holding it back in newer games. Even when FO4 cane out I could do high to very high with my 1440p monitor at 60fps. Now with Valhalla it's starting to lag a lot, even with 1080@60. I'm thinking of going the cheaper route and just upgrading everything else in hopes of a new GPU when they come down in price. I've looked into an AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, MSI B450M Pro-VHD Max micro ATX (do I can keep my current case), G.Skill Aegis 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000. That will be the base build. Then either the EVGA 750 BQ 750 Watt 80 Plus Bronze Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply or the Power spec version of the same thing, depending what is available. Probably the BeQuiet Pure Rock 2 for the cooler. that should stay at that $450 range for me. all in all, is this worth doing if I'm staying with my 970SSC?
  2. So my monitor displays a vertical white line along the right edge of the screen when I am viewing media in full screen. The line does not show on the desktop home screen, nor does it show in the start screen (lock screen). Here is an album showing what I mean I'm thinking it is some sort of setting pushing full screen media over a little bit, but cannot think of how this would have happened. Monitor is a QNIXQX2710LED. 27", 2560x1440p. Some cheap Korean monitor I got when I did my build. I havent checked to see if it fixes when I am plugged directly to the motherboard and not my video card. Also, I cannot seem to get signal to go from my Graphic Card (EVGA SSC GTX 970) to my monitor using the DVI-D chord. It only works on HDMI. Any ideas for that?
  3. Using the GTX970 (EVGA SSC edition). I'd like the 480 since it uses less power and should, theoretically, work better on my 1440p monitor, even though it only uses 60fps. I would definitely upgrade to free sync once the prices are a bit better, but for what I do/play 1440 at 60 works perfectly fine and gives all of the visual goodness I need.

  5. So I have a WD MyBook. The interface that you plug the hard drive into inside the enclosure had failed because of an error I made (My USB header wasn't plugged in correctly to my motherboard and it shorted the interface in the enclosure). I took out the physical hard drive and plugged it directly into my computer. I have gotten my computer to physically see the drive and see that there is space taken up by files, but it cannot read those files because of WDs proprietary encryption. The HDD still spins up and all, no damage to that, but I cannot access my data. I contacted the people on WDs site for data recovery, but they are charging a lot of money for me to see if I really even need something from that drive (It most likely has some random photos, music, and movies, but I don't know if one of my brothers put anything they really need on it). Any ideas? I'm getting mixed reviews on whether or not buying another MyBook and plugging my HDD into that and using its encryption would actually work. Some people said its hit or miss whether the encryption is of the same series to know if it will work.
  6. Made a windows 10 install USB drive. Booted to bios, had out run from the USB, but it won't install. It just starts the install and tells me to restart without the usb to finish. I do that and it tries to reset the tablet but won't go past 48%. I left out plugged in overnight and it hasn't gone past 48% in the last 10 hours. edit: Going to try this method next edit 2: THe linked method worked perfectly. Its upgrading to base windows 10 now. im going to see if there is a fix for the fall update that supposedly has bricked a lot of TW802s since they are missing drivers or something like that
  7. Thanks. I'll try this out. It has a full USB port so I can use my normal USB hub. I got to bios, but now I'll have to work on getting a recovery disk made up.
  8. Was doing updates on my TW802TW802 that I got from Microcenter. When the screen came up that says "your files are right where you left them" it just froze there. I left out for several hours with no change. I did a hard reset and it booted to my desktop, but kept freezing after a few minutes. I booted into recovery (it did it itself, I don't know how to do that on tablets) and tried to reset from a save point, but it said there was a problem. I then just said screw it and did a full reset with no saved files (I put everything on a micro sd that I removed before trying any of this). It would again get stuck in the latest stages of the reset. After a few hard resets it now just turns on the back light and shows nothing on the screen. Is there any way I can boot to recovery in a specific way? Maybe put Windows on a flash drive and use the USB port to boot to that? I don't know how to get into the bios of a tablet to do that.
  9. I original built my computer without a WiFi adapter to save money and get better speeds by using the powerline adapter. My only problem is my house is kind of old, so the wiring may not be great. Multiple times per day my internet connection will disconnect, but the icon in the lower right of the computer will say connected. Right before I am able to connect again the icon will show the yellow triangle for a second and then disappear as it reconnects to the internet. This had happened will u was using Comcast as well as Verizon. Furthermore the WiFi in my phone still works whole my pc doesn't. Should I switch to WiFi? We already have between 2-6 devices connected at a time through WiFi, so a word connection is preferred. The only problem is the people who renovated our house before we started living here never put in a single phone line or cat5 line. So WiFi and powerline are my only options. Thanks for any advice!
