Did the motherboard box have the sticker that says it's compatible and has the updated BIOS?
If not then you'll need to get your hands on a 1000 series chip and update the BIOS or take it to a local shop and see if they'll do it for a few bucks.

That laptop appears to be EOL, so there's a good chance it will never come back into stock. Surprising really, as it's at most a year old. Gigabyte laptop support must suck badly.

For starters, that's a great deal for that spec laptop.

How well laptops age is mostly dependent on their hardware. Although the boot SSD isn't huge, I don't see why it wouldn't age well.

I haven't personally used an MSI laptop, but I've heard that if you do have issues, their support can be a pain in the ass.

I would say go for it though.

Yeah, you aren't doing any editing on that. You're looking at a super-nerfed version of the i3, and you'll be working on a <5w chip, so it's got virtually no power. Its base clock is 1ghz.

The i5 and i7 options arent much better - They're all "Extremely low power" chips, with very low base clocks, and they won't boost for long. It's also so expensive for it's spec and accessories.

I mean, this whole thing is coming from the guy who from April has decided that porn sites need to verify our ages in better ways than they do now. Mindgeek (Pornhub, Brazzers, RealityKings, etc) have basically been given a golden ticket with their AgeID scheme to track users of the service across the web, and that scheme is likely going to be the defacto way for sites to confirm people's identities - They're offering the scheme for free to all porn sites that are available in the UK, whether they own them or not.

That's the idea though - children won't be able to sign up without a code from this central database. And if you're an adult, you'll have  a credit/debit card to validate your age. The implementation of it seems farily watertight. It just seems unnessescary in the first place

    I'd look at PiSignage - https://pisignage.com/
It supports setting up a server to manage them from. Running 3 screens off 1 PC is going to be awkward for most digital signage software anyway.

It comes with 3 free licenses, and sounds like it would cover what you want anyway. It has wifi integrated so all you'd need to do is power it, which if you're using actual TVs you can probably power it from a USB port on the TV.

I have found the solution! This was a tricky one... The problem was the firmware of the docking station.

I upgraded the graphic driver to the newest version first, but that didn't solve the problem.

Afterwards, I downloaded the firmware "HP Ultraslim Docking Station DisplayPort (DP) Hub Firmware Update", then I docked my laptop into to the docking station and ran the .exe. This flashed a new driver to the docking station's EEPROM, which immediately fixed the problem after I un-docked and then re-docked.

    Thanks everyone for the support!

I've bought one of these with an 860 Evo. It's worth mentioning that I and another person who made a review have found that the 850 and 860 ssds do not fit in the enclosure. I had to file down the "ledge" that the m.2 board sits on so the space in between them is big enough. It only needed about 0.5mm each side, but just for people to be aware.

If your current OS has detected and isntalled the drivers, then it won't make a difference. It would only help if the drivers didn't work on your PC and you were running with the MS Basic display driver.

Although, the speeds you're showing, makes me think it may be that.

Right click the start button and click Device Manager. Expand "Display Adapters", right click whatever is theren click properties. When the window opens, go to the Driver tab and screenshot it and post it here. If you can, switch to the "Details" tab, in the dropdown select "Hardware IDs" and then screenshot that too.

You're unlikely to be able to just upgrade a laptop. You'd be a lot better just buying a newish one, than buying an older one and trying to upgrade it. If you did manage to find one that is even upgradeable (usually the CPU is soldered to the motherboard), the cooling system probably wouldn't be able to keep the chip cool - That's a 65w chip, so keeping that cool in a laptop would be awkward. Battery life would be practically non-existent too.

What powerline kit are you using? Some of them are considerably more sensitive to the "quality" of the power in your home. If it was consistently bad, i'd say your router pc may be an issue, but with it being intermittent it makes me think the power in your home isn't great.

For overclocking, keeping your VRMs cool is just as important as keeping your Cpu cool. Remember that OCing your cpu draws more power, meaning your VRMs have to work harder to deliver that power. They need to feel the love too!

As you've provided reasons for your disagreements, I'll respond.

I totally agree that with a large game library, having a mechanical drive for the less played or less drive using games makes sense. My concern was that the 120gb drive may run out of space before OP has everything he needs installed there, and will likely not have enough space for any large games. I had a very similar set up to yours (250gb boot ssd with a few games and the rest on a 1tb HDD) and it worked reasonably well.

My ram suggested wasn't for the games (I don't know how much ram games really use these days, I've got enough that I don't need to worry and I don't game that much anyway) but for the video editing. Depending on what editing suite is in use, ram usage will go through the roof (and the page file will probably be used *heavily*, severely degrading the system performance). For example, I had a 720p 2minute Premiere Pro project open and a few 720p compositions open in After effects, and during rendering, AE was using 14GB of my systems 16, and even at idle, after conforming audio and previews, premiere and AE suck up a lot.

Editing was my reasoning for the Cpu upgrade too.

I would agree almost entirely with you if it was gaming only.

You're more likely to suffer from microwave radiation from your kitchen microwave (which outputs hundreds of times more radiation)

I think uptime is only counted from full reboot.
The shut down option in Windows 10 will sign out the user (although it does save their open apps, which is a new feature), but OS goes into hibernation rather than full shutdown, since there's no noticeable difference anyways and it's faster.
