Stadia Creative Director Triggers Uproar on Twitter
sof006 replied to Random_Person1234's topic in Tech News
"Should be paying publishers"... No actually i'd massively disagree, why? Because free publicity, advertising etc. If people see some dude on Twitch with an absolute crap ton of followers playing your game they're very likely to also want to buy and play it. Just today I was watching someone play the new Doom Eternal DLC and I decided to buy the new DLC... In fact I am fairly sure publishers give away free copies of games to these streamers on purpose for this exact reason. -
Apple finally enters 5G - iPhone 12 + homePod mini announcement
sof006 replied to williamcll's topic in Tech News
Apple, forever has to be the "We're doing something different" even though its so dumb. "Lets make a lightning to USB-C cable but not include a charging brick in the box". Worst thing of all? Apple crazy fans will lap it up and buy a separate charger directly from Apple when previously it was included in the box at no extra cost 19 Dollars for a 20W Fast Charger?? I doubt that any previous owners of an iPhone even have a charger like this. Also this does not reduce e-waste like many might like to think, if anything this will only increase it as now people will throw out their old chargers to replace them with new chargers. Apple, when the world asked you to move to Type-C we didn't mean this. I swear this company gets worse with time. -
AT&T shelving DSL may leave hundreds of thousands hanging by a phone line
sof006 replied to SpikeSpiegel's topic in Tech News
https://i.speedof.me/201007231009-527 Just done this speed test now. It's between 14 and 18 and no higher. I am with Zen as my ISP. Your ping/latency can be heavily impacted by which ISP you're using as your ISP can either take a shorter or longer route vs another ISP. For example when I was with BT as my ISP my ping was around 20, but thats because they took a longer route to reach the server. -
AT&T shelving DSL may leave hundreds of thousands hanging by a phone line

In the UK we're in the period of trying to phase out VDSL technology in favour of "ultra fast" which in other words is true fibre, none of that FTTC rubbish. I am currently on a VDSL2 package and its decent and would consider myself to be one of the lucky people who can hit 70/80Mb which is roughly the maximum speed you can achieve on FTTC over here without g.inp, vectoring etc... In my area Openreach are in the process of rolling out fibre, id suspect its taking them longer with covid causing more problems. I personally hope to eventually move to an area that supplies Virgin Media, I know a friend who says he can get me a nice discount on their gig1 package (Gigabit broadband). -
Perhaps, I need to take a look at some reviews of their newer stuff. I guess I just got burned by their older stuff, heard of them stripping features from older cards in order to make their newer stuff look more appealing

So I have a sound blaster z currently in my system. But the drivers are shockingly bad on Windows 10. Yes I have tried custom drivers but the software that creative provides still just sucks so bad. I need a replacement that provides Front Panel audio so that I can plug in headphones when gaming with friends on teamspeak but also provides optical out for my speakers when I am not. I'd prefer a sound card that does auto switching detecting (detects when I plug in headphones) although its not a must. Honestly i'd rather stay clear of creative as their drivers are laughable. I've been looking at ASUS but they don't seem to provide any cards with front panel connectors? No USB sound cards, I avoid them as when I game they pick up a lot of electrical noise from my graphics card when i'm exceeding 100FPS (144Hz monitor). I used to have a topping D50 at one point but kept getting buzzing sounds when gaming. Any help is appreciated thanks.

rtx 3080 crashing possibly due to capacitor choice

Looking at that table it would suggest a RTX 3080 Gigabyte Eagle card is fine? If so i'm good because thats the card i've pre-ordered. -
Crypto miners are hoarding early shipments of RTX 3080s

I'm hoping to get my hands on a founders edition card, looks pretty good for a stock cooler from Nvidia. Although I am tempted to hold off and see what AMD has to offer, i'd be curious if they offer the same performance but for cheaper. -
I don't think it was LTT's intention to kill a project like this, I think he just wanted to show enthusiasm for something like this. Its a shame Microsoft killed the project but also at the same time can you blame them? Its their OS and they reserve the rights to do this.

I'm using liquid cooling, I doubt it'll change much. -
RTX 3080 relative performance data from Digital Foundry's video

I am very tempted to get a RTX 3080. Performance is insane also that cooler looks fantastic. Never seen a design like that before. -
It's not? The rest of the specs are probably irrelevant. Ryzen 2600, 8GBs RAM... Especially since this appears to be graphics related in some way.

My specs are in my sig and my partner has a GTX 1060. Both using Nvidia cards, I can't say for certain that its caused by Nvidia but its possible?

So me and my partner have been having this recent issue with Chrome and I can't figure out what is causing it. Its hard to describe (I don't currently have a screenshot of it happening) but here goes. Certain parts of Chrome do not display correctly, like menus etc. In the top right where the three dots are on my partners computer it doesn't load the menu, it only loads a empty black box. And on my computer I have this weird issue where if I got to download something and the file name is too long the download message at the bottom of my screen gets all squished up and I can't press "keep or discard" and I have to open up the downloads window in order to fix it. Both on fresh installs of Windows 10 build 2004 and using the newest version of Nvidia drivers, using a previous version of nvidia drivers does not appear to fix the issue. I have also tried disabling and enabling hardware acceleration in Chrome, no dice. The download issue for me isn't that big of a deal but the menu not working on my partners computer kind of prevents them from being able to make changes to Chrome.

Why....? Intel stop doing stupid shit, actually do something good that people care about.

They need to be fined a much much higher amount, put it into the billions.

Lol Microsoft is going to run this app into the ground, like it does with everything else it buys. And for once I am glad if this turns out to be the case. The app is full of cringe, honestly good for those who enjoy it but I am sick and tired of seeing ads on YouTube constantly shoving it down my throat.

Apple: "It runs too hot!" Everyone else: "Yeah duh, but you also don't know how to connect a heatsink to a fan" Apple: "Huh?"
