Unlike with other drugs you cannot overdose on marijuana. The amount you'd need to smoke to overdose on it is completely insane. It is just not possible.

It only ruins your life if you let it. Video games can also ruin your life.

You shouldn't drive or operate heavy machinery under the influence of drugs, be it alcohol, marijuana or anything else. At least over here that would be against the law. I don't think you should blame that "accident" on marijuana but on the fact that your ex-co-worker is an irresponsible idiot.

Yes, they always get hype, but it's not always overhype. Sometimes the hype is very much deserved, like GW2. However, that's not what you said. What you said was:
"if noone wanted normal pokemon they could make an mmo because everyone hypes over an mmo."
Which is wrong. They should make an mmo because that's what people want, people do like pokemon, but it's multiplayer aspect is severely limited. The game itself is perfect for an MMO, and that's why they should make it.

This is simply not true. A good example was GW2.There are plenty of MMOs that were doing very very well. A game doesn't need to have 10 millions subscribers to be sucessfull, even 100 thousand is a lot.

Again, more bullshit. In GW2 where there is no grind, and you can have fun in WoW even if you only play 10h a month. Completing the entire game will require a huge grind, but no one does that besides a few people in the entire planet. This is actually completely false for the vast majority of MMOs.

No one cares until nintendo says something, and then all they really need to do is move the servers somewhere else.

There are indeed much better computer games, but are they as fun? Only a very few number of computer games have been more fun for me than PokeMMO. Hell, i even find Robot Unicorn Attack more fun than some of the best games, be it indie or triple A, like Bastion or  BF3. I have about 200 games on my steam account and only 20 of them have more than an hour of play time, yet I've definitely spent over 30 hours on Robot Unicorn Attack and probably 60+ hours on Pokemon games for the past year.

If nintendo refuses to make a pokemon mmo then I support what they're doing. I want to play it, if nintendo makes one then I'll play theirs but they just don't want to.

I have the zalman and it's pretty much terrible even if you disregard the fact that it won't clip on to the cable on the silverados. It's just way too sensitive to be useful, if a dog barks on the other side of the block the mic will pick it up. I also notice a faint echo on it, probably due to build quality of the enclosure. The modmic is probably the only thing that can decently replace a headset's microphone, but if I'm paying 30$+ for a cheap microphone I might as well just get a headset.

Could you explain the difference between exploration and mining? Because I don't find that exploration/salvaging and mining are so different from each other that require different groups.

Won't a piracy group set the tone for an entire clan? If the piracy group attacks another clan then chances are we'll get a bounty and every, mainly the traders, miners or explorers, will have a bigger target on their head. In any other game if the scout/military group attacks someone in another clan then that would mean an open war and in SC it will be no different. Either no one is a pirate or everyone is a pirate.

What does the engineering group do?

I didn't understand the purpose of the military group. Is it a separate group or will every member be in the military group? Will there be members who belong exclusively to the military group? How will the military group make money?
Will the military group be escorting the traders/miners/explorers?

Atm there's only two people on the high council, how many are you planning on having? What "fiscal" benefits do people on the high council get? Is it any different from any regular member's? Also, will you two belong to another group?

You said that the leaders of the groups would be elected. What about the high council? If a better leader is found would you be willing to step down?

What is your aim with this organization? How big do you want it to grow? What is your target demographic? Is there an age limit? Will it consist of people from LTT or is anyone welcome?

How casual will this organization be? Will it require a minimum activity?

What is your experience running guilds/clans/organizations in other MMOs? Do you have any experience in closer to sand-box games where there's open PvP and anyone can kill anyone?

Is the organization really be called "The Unofficial LTT Conglomerate" or is that name just temporary? If so, what are the names you're currently thinking of?

I can probably get a 500 slot TS3 server for about 20€ a year or so (hosted on a VPN). I own 32 slot one for friends and friends of friends and if you need more than 32 you'll need a license, which is free for non-profit organizations such as a clan or guild. However, this is not possible if there's an affiliation with a for-profit organization such as LTT.

There was a show some time ago where Gordon Ramsay started cake production in a prison. The inmates learned how to bake and such while forming a profitable business, and some got jobs in the industry when they came out instead of just coming out once again with no trades or skills and ending up back in. However, it was all drug-related crimes, either dealers or users who ended up committing small crimes to fuel the addiction, they were not intrinsically evil. Murderers, however, are rather different as they lack morals, I don't think it's possible to rehabilitate them, it's society that needs to be changed to prevent them in the first place.

Canoas reacted to h264 in How are USB DACs better than sound cards?
Maybe I should've added that while USB DACs by theory alone aren't any better than soundcards, in practice it seems most of them fall short of the requirements to be a good "wire with gain" when it comes to modern low impedance high sensitivity headphones.  More noise, more crosstalk, more output impedance, and way too much power for headphones designed to be used with portable devices.  Sure it'll look nice in your case and for most people sound fine, but if you wanted more ACCURACY in your audio reproduction you're going in the wrong direction.

It should also be noted that a lot of USB DACs don't meet these requirements.  It's not just soundcards that are the problem to me, it's MOST of the audio devices out there, which is why I recommend so few  different items to people who ask me about good audio quality.  What I'm sure to many of you seems like product endorsement is really just desperation on my part to find good products at good prices.  Once again, in most cases the device you ALREADY OWN, your onboard audio chip, is FINE for most if not ALL sane types of headphones you could purchase.  Even if it's only OK, it's still FREE with your motherboard.  Now THAT ONE will make head-fi throw a fit if nothing else, but it's true.

I won't even start on the real reason I personally hate the accepted list of the best soundcards out there in totality:  Drivers.

and what makes it so difficult for sound card makers to design a lower output impedance card?
Noise. The lower the output impedance the more the noise becomes a problem.

anything you buy new now (External sound, internal sound card or onboard) all have higher than required SNR, THD and FR to drive whatever impedance headphone they claim they can.
    That's what I said?

Not too sure what shearme was inferring, but in some cases sound cards are indeed a ripoff considering the features you get. the difference is not always sound quality.
From what I understood he was saying that external solutions are better because since they have less features the components have higher quality, which to me doesn't make much sense.

To me it seems like it's the exact opposite. Everyone seems to think that soundcards are worse just for being sound cards and not an external solution.

Nah, the eddy currents aren't really enough to create audible noise for the headphones a soundcard is designed to drive. Or rather, the eddy currents are already taken into consideration.

Anyway, I won't be replying to this topic, it's pretty clear that I'm not wanted here.

Here is my take on this:
    Do you notice any noise?
    Is the sound loud enough?

If the answers are no and yes (respectively) then I don't think you should get anything at all, use the on-board you already have. To drive something like your 300 ohm headphones, however, then you do need a better audio solution than your on-board and the xonar essense stx is more than enough as it drives up to 600 ohm headphones. If you buy a new pair of headphone with a really low impedance then you might really need an external solution, but if not then keep your xonar stx, you will not notice any difference from switching to an external dac/amp.

The dac/amp, be it on-board, a sound card or external practically comes down to those two factors: Noise and loudness.

Before I start I should say that I have only watched half the video so far, nor have I read the replies here or more than a handful of comments on YouTube. However, most people that see that video won't go to this thread and look up explanations though. They will take whatever is said in the video as fact, which is why I will be harsh when judging it. Here are the issues I got with the video's first 12 minutes. Might watch the rest later but not right now.

I just want to quote that because it does matter, and I will get to it later in this post.

This part is extremely misleading. By playing the music in the video and going “close your eyes when you listen” you will make people try it out for themselves using the video. The only problem is that the YouTube video people watch will have 192Kbps AAC audio or maybe even worse (depending on the video quality the users pick). So people will listen to 192Kbps AAC, and then 192Kbps AAC and go “wow they are right, I can’t hear a difference!”. I wouldn’t trust the music Logan has made (no idea what he has done with it during production) in a test either. You should use a wide variety of music made by people who know what they are doing when you test. Choirs can often be affected by lossy compression in an audible way for example.

It is doing something. It holds data which the MP3 file no longer contains. Sure, let’s say it is completely impossible to hear a difference (which it isn’t, it is extremely hard, requires very expensive equipment and very good ears), but what if you transcode it a few times? The small pieces the lossy codecs take away starts to stack up fairly quickly in those cases. It is very important for archiving.

Well that’s hyperbole but yes you do have significantly worse hearing than a lot of people simply because you are older. By the age of 30 you might have lost about 10dB in the high range compared to a child or young teen.
    Hearing range of humans

The problem with MP3 and other lossy codecs is that different encoders have different outputs. Razorlame will cut out almost everything over 16KHz while AltoMP3 will keep a lot of it and start butchering everything over 20KHz. So with lossy codecs one encoder might be transparent, while another one might have an audible difference to certain people (depending on hearing and indirectly their age). With FLAC all encoders will have the same audio quality. Here is an example of different MP3 encoder outputs:
Comparison of different MP3 encoders on Head-Fi

Well that’s just completely wrong. No idea where you got that 5% number from. Most adults can only hear up to 16KHz and it continues to decrease with age quite dramatically (by the age of 40 most males have about 10dB lower sensitivity to the higher frequency spectrum). The lowest a human might be able to hear is 12Hz, and we can feel (feel but not hear) sounds down to 4Hz. Low frequencies are not as affected by age as high frequencies are.

That is wrong, it is 100% total wrongness. Frequencies over the Nyquist frequency must have an antialiasing filter unless you want audible distortion. High sampling rates are not used to extend the audible range. It is very difficult to make a filter that removes everything above let’s say 20KHz, but nothing below it. By oversampling so that our Nyquist frequency is let’s say 48KHz (a sampling rate of 96KHz) you need a much less accurate filter and the risk of audible distortion is next to null. Here is Xiph’s explanation of it:
A Digital Media Primer for Geeks
