DO NOT BUY AMD. (for now...)

This video is grossly irresponsible because we are STILL being affected by driver timeout issues on 23.9.3, here is a survey of people trying to figure out if it's a hardware combination.

    My set up.

    GPU 7900 XTX (XFX Merc)
    CPU 7900X
    RAM Trident Z5 Neo 64gb 6000Mhz CL30 (AMD EXPO)
    PSU A100G PCIE5 1000W MSI
    MOBO MSI X670e Carbon Wifi
    OS Windows 11Pro

    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScL7m-EGEsA3x4-0Td7dD-HXXUngZvL52y-oRoqwvRXfK7j1Q/viewanalytics

My PSU is the newest of the new, literally, it's a PCIE5 A1000G MSI. And to this DAY I still get this issue across multiple games, with zero public response from AMD. To the point, they (AMD) actually shadow-banned this topic from the Reddit, and then directed us to the AMD support forums. Where they have soundly ignored us.

When we moved our threads over there (and some new ones popped up) AMD never ended up responding to a single one.

Here is a publication still trying to help people fix this issue to this day, posted in September 2023. These suggestions have been tried for quite a while for the most part, with a few ones. Suggestions to turn off MPO, Super Scaling, etc have existed to this day with extremely limited success.

    https://www.makeuseof.com/amd-driver-timeout-tdr-windows/

Working alongside XFX and AMD in e-mail chains etc these are some of the steps I have tried.

    Windows 10 Install fresh computer 32 - 64 GB of RAM (DDR5) Turning off EXPO for RAM Turned it back on for RAM Windows 10 Reformat when issues first showed up in a game POST WINDOWS 11 Windows 11 Clean install new NVME Turning off EXPO for RAM Turned it back on for RAM Attempted to turn off super sampling etc. DDU, new drivers DDU, new drivers DDU, new drivers DDU, direct drivers DDU, new drivers, uninstall wallpaper engine DDU, new drivers, attempt to run games without LD Player running DDU, new drivers, 1 monitor only Also attempted new drivers here and I forgot to list out that I ran MemTest at the suggestion of XFX and ADA64 etc. No memory errors what-so-ever.This issue still exists, and is hitting me on;

    Crashing Games:
Unreal: Unreal Editor, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Deus Ex Human revolition, Several Indie games
    Unity: Phantom Brigade
    Autodesk Stingray: Darktide, Vermintine 2
    Sekiro Enigne: Armoured Core 6

    Games that run Fine:
    RedEngine: Cyberpunk 2077
Unity: Battletech, ShadowRun, Sattelite Reign, Scorn, bunch of Indies
    CryEngine: MechWarriorOnline, Shatterline, Star Scamizen
    Gamebryo: Starfield (Post patch)
    GameMaker: Holocure
    Slipstream: Halo Infinite

Now here's the kicker... a friend of mine (I met him trying to fix this problem) has OPPOSITE -games that run and do not run. He can play Armoured Core 6, but Cyberpunk 2077 crashes. Even a person in this thread here reported no issue, only to find an issue with starfield... where I have none! Turning off FSR seems to have fixed his issue for him, but I have had several false positive fixes until the issue popped up again.

When playing Phantom Brigade as a tester, it only crashes in the mission. never world map. Same with darktide, the hub NEVER crashers, but missions do. I was playing Phantom Brigade and then had the crash, someone on the AMD forums suggested a driver timeout delay registry edit, which I did! I set it back to TWO HOURS. I then played Phantom Brigade for TWELVE HOURS straight with no crashes!

Until when I was certain it was fine, so I went on one last mission... crashed. Discord will close (most of the time), audio keeps playing on youtube videos, etc. All the issues some people in this video reported are still happening to this day. See this here, bear in mind me hitting CTRL ALT DELETE did not bring it out of this state, it just timed out. I started recording about a minute into the crash.

https://youtu.be/POtHuHCJlCg?si=wAROQslRDDIFNbUd   This issue affects us AMD 7XXX users to this day, from the 7600 to my 7900 XTX. There is no solution, AMD is not offering any public answers even though the reps we work with are... trying their best, but are extremely limited and just keep telling us to DDU and send MS32 and DxDiag.   Also, to prempt "AMD hater" arguments... no. I still have my R9 290x which lasted me 13 years, zero issues, no driver issues, nothing. It still works to this day though I replaced it for encoders. Before this I had an ATI HD 7970, before that an HD 5650, before that... I forget the number but I had all the top of the line ancient ATI cards which worked to this day, I sold them to some retro gamers and they love them... actually made a huge profit on them because they were the best of the best cards of the time lol. One of them has a specific shader suite that is the only card that can run shadows on Advent Rising.   I have a second backup build which is;   GPU 7600 (XFX 3x fan)
    CPU 5600X
    RAM G.Skill TridentZ 32gb
PSU Some 800W Corsair semi-modular lol
MOBO X470-F Strix Gaming (oh man what a garbage MOBO)
    OS Windows 11Pro

Which I bought before I realised I had these issues, since all I played was Cyberpunk and Darktide I just assumed Darktide was broken... until I tried UE editor, then I tried Deus Ex, and other games had this crashing issue. I basically had no chance to return this Graphics Card because the issue can remain latent/dormant until you find a game you want to play that does not work. And those games can be old or VERY modern, Phantom Brigade JUST RELEASED. And I am incapable of playing a game I purchased because of AMD.

I am also a Game Developer, and while i work on Unity now, I want to switch Unreal... which is impossible for me because I cannot run the editor without driver timeouts. While other people I know on 7900 XTX can, and others also can't. There is something deeply wrong and falwed with AMDs drivers right now. And to recommend them is IRRESPONSIBLE.

Even in this video they are STILL having these issues on the latest drivers... to recommend them just because "Oh it would suck for there to be no competition with Nvidia..." I mean who cares, these driver issues should make it a HARD WARNING against this card. Dozens of us have been sending e-mails to GN, Hardware Unboxed, AMD, etc to be ignored. This video shows the issues STILL plaguing us to this day.

The riser is not the issue. This is an issue, inherent, to the 7XXX series. I have no riser, I have the most modern PSU on the market by release date ready for PCIE5 and originates a 16 HPWR to 2x8 pin even. MSI MPG A1000G, this thing is among the best of the best PSUs you can get and guess what... same issues. Hundreds of us, have this issue. We have a hardware survey and barely any of us are using Risers but we to this day all have this issue still.

Yeah that statement for Linux would be true, there are some serious issus with the RTX 3-4XXX series and I would say it would be fully apt to say "do not get this as a linux user." For 97% of PC users though? Nvidia is the vastly safer buy, as even 6XXX are having the drive timeout issue, and the 7XXX's get them a lot.

For 97% of PC users... imagine this.

A game series you love hasn't had a new game released for 10 years, ten years! And all the sudden an amazing story trailer drops... then another, then gameplay! It looks incredible (even if they soulsified it a bit too much with mid-mission loadout changing... and auto-tracking).  Some of the former players you played tournaments against are saying "You know what, even though it has that, it is amazing."

You preorder it, collectors edition, $250! Your 7900 XTX crushes its recommended specs... lol an RX 590? Give me a break! It finally arrives at your house a little past launch because the code is physical, and you finall download it off steam and get in!

It looks beautiful, the tutorial etc runs butter smooth. The raytracing in just the hangar looks jaw-dropping, and you wish it was in the game itself.  Two hours in, you are feeling the world, you are attached to the AC etc an- DRIVER TIMEOUT THE ENTIRE SYSTEM LOCKS FOR 5 MINUTES GAME CLOSES NOTHING SAVED.

This is what Linus and team decided to recommend still. I have no idea if I can buy a game... not because my GPU isn't powerful enough, but because the game COULD randomly and unpredictably timeout. Some old games I love do it. Some of the newest of the new do it. FSR on, FSR off, 1 monitor or 2, new cables, upgrade the RAM, MPO, registry edit timeout delay.

Linus and Company had the same issues, and they signed off on it anways. And you know what... I bet they're running Nvidia at home too, probably even because of this issue I am willing to bet. They are misleading literally hundreds of thousands of viewers to a situation where there is no solution currently. It's not a hardware compatibility thing, it's not a game developer thing it has NOTHING to do with developers it is NOT their fault. It is completely on the brand, AMD, and it doesn't matter if Nvidia and Intel are the only competitors int eh market... AMD put out an unreliable product that could ruin your enjoyment of the ENTIRE hobby. It has mine. It has to hundreds of others reporting these issues. We are home buyers we aren't multi millionaires... we can't just swap to a 4090 at a whim. Some people have spent thousands getting new components trying to fix this, when in actuality it wasn't their MOBO, it wasn't their RAM, it was not their GPU... people swapping out entire systems except the GPU because other people/forums led them astray.

I won't be doing that. I want to warn everyone here, and anyone who might see it. DO NOT BUY AMD GPUS. For now... will AMD take this issue seriously enough to fix it?

Not with people like the Linus team recommending them and burying any PR snafu... people blindly listen to Linus and even if it is crashing, like it is confirmed across all 3 presenters here, they'll listen to that recommendation. And if your game is affected, it is a 100% guarantee it will crash, when? Who knows. 10 minutes, 20, 10 hours... it will crash on you. Sometimes 20+ times in one day, sometimes 1 or 2 times a day. This is... insanity. And I don't think Linus and company would accept this risk in any other product. If this was Nvidia or Intel they probably would have made a huge piece admonishing them, and rightfully so.

Linus himself said it, if he didn't get it for free it would have been a much bigger issue... so why, why on earth, does he still recommend it? 3/3 people had the issues, the issue STILL persists with the most recent drivers... 3/3 was their sample and test size. And there are, more, many more of us.

    Do not buy AMD GPUs.

Here is 183 people, with different hardware configs... different software being affected, all the same drive timeout issue. This is not JUST my use case, and this is not isolated. People on this forum are starting to find out they have the issue, people in other places I am spreading are starting to test out more applications/games and finding that... yeah, despite the main games they play, they too have drive timeout issues in others.

This is overly broad, because IT IS A BROAD ISSUE.

Cyberpunk 2077 works 100% fine for me, others? It times out. AC6 times out for me, for others? It doesn't. Unreal Editor, same story. These timeout issues are deep in the drive suite and it is not just my set up or not just the applications I use.

And even if it was, why would you ever recommend something with such massive glaring issues? Unfixable ones, so far. How is that a recommendable product? Can you explain to me why that would be acceptable?

Can you explain to me, how even in this video, all three of them had different hardware configs than me... they all had this issue. And continued to have the issue even after they updated. Explain to me, how that gets a recommend?
  6. Funny
Evelyn Harthbrooke reacted to Valaska in I’m Staying on AMD!
Theys till, at the end of the day, have these issues... unfixed, without fully understanding them or looking into if others were having them. ALL THREE of them had these issues, but they still recommend these cards? When there is a MASIVE chance you have a card which can't run all games, randomly will driver timeout on some, and can easily sneak by without you noticing it past the return window.

At that point you are stuck with a $1500 GPU which you cannot use fully. There is no fix. AMD is not acknowledging the issue, despite it being known and reported to them.

Still recommending a faulty product just because "I don't like Nvidia as a company!" Is horrible. That's anti-consumer, that is giving people a false belief that the AMD product does not have issues that should ward you away from it. nvidia and intel DO NOT have these issues right now, Linus and team are walking people into buying faulty products.

While yes, they acknowledge they exist... recommending them after acknowledging that simply because of competition? I dunno, I couldn't do that personally and I had to speak out about it. There are hundreds of people that I know of, dozens I talk to personally, and potentially thousands to tens of thousands who don't understand they have this issue or might be blaming it on other hardware (ie, PSU, RAM, etc). We need solidarity here to get AMD to knuckle down and investigate these problems... or do a recall.

People who are saying they don't have this issue are now after seeing this and my other posts I am spreading around, finding out they do have it. There is one here, even... this is not rare, this is not isolated. This is widespread to a point it might be affecting the entire range. But it is so random and sporadic many won't know until they get into an application/game their GPU will randomly timeout on for no explainable reason.

AMD needs to answer for this, they need to address it, and giving them a recommendation lets them ignore it. AMD needs to fix this GPU, because the 7XXX series would be an amazing value performance proposition... but right now it is... heck, I've never seen in my entire life since the Sony VAIO disaster such an awful issue with hardware and a lack of response.
  7. Agree
Evelyn Harthbrooke got a reaction from FrostfireScorpion in Should I go for 4070 or 7800xt?
I'd personally go for the 7800 XT. Faster than the 4070, and AMD has a tendency to put major effort into continulously optimizing their drivers, making them faster over time than reviews initially suggest, and it'll be perfectly fine for streaming due to AMD's new encoding engines included in RDNA 3.

    This is a Driver Timeout Issue with the GPU a 7900 XTX. This has been 6 months straight now, my current set up;

    GPU 7900 XTX (XFX Merc)
    CPU 7900X
    RAM Trident Z5 Neo 64gb 6000Mhz CL30 (AMD EXPO)

Attempted fixes in order (working alongside XFX and AMD for 6 months now)
    I've written out the majority, and counted this out how many times I've done; Windows 10 Install fresh computer 32 - 64 GB of RAM (DDR5) Turning off EXPO for RAM Turned it back on for RAM Windows 10 Reformat when issues first showed up in a game POST WINDOWS 11 Windows 11 Clean install new NVME Turning off EXPO for RAM Turned it back on for RAM Attempted to turn off super sampling etc. DDU, new drivers DDU, new drivers DDU, new drivers DDU, direct drivers DDU, new drivers, uninstall wallpaper engine DDU, new drivers, attempt to run games without LD Player running DDU, new drivers, 1 monitor only We have a community-based survey we were passing around on AMDs SubReddit and the FORMERLY support section of it. Recently after one of my threads was deleted within 5 minutes of being posted, they changed the policy that no support should be on the Reddit and directed us to the AMD forums. This is my post;

    https://community.amd.com/t5/drivers-software/7900-xtx-drivers-crash-multiple-games/m-p/599145/highlight/true#M173161

This is NOT fixable. It is completely random, you can't tell which game your GPU will not be able to run. Fresh windows install does nothing, and I have a 1000W PSU with the HPWR to 16 (8x8) splitting and a single dedicated 8x pin. It's not just me, there are people on the 7600X getting the same issues.

And another amazing thing? Running in the Unreal Editor, it crashes on me. I am a game developer. A GAME DEVELOPER, going to move into unreal soon, leaving Unreal behind., Linus and the team recommending AMD despite the issue STILL hitting their cards is ridiculous. DO NOT PURCHASE AMD. They don't know how to fix this issue, I have been talking to them for 6 months straight now, and they have NO IDEA why this issue is happening... and it hits you at complete random.

If you want a GPU that won't randomly crash on random games, then you need to be using either Nvidia or Intel. And I say this as someone who has used ATI and AMD GPUs for literally 26 years now. I hate this, I spent $1500 on this... the 4080 wasn't much more than this, and tbh I wish I just saved up for the 4090. I could have put it off a few months. But if this card worked across every game, application, etc it would be fine. It would be near perfect. But with the 4070 and 4080 out there, do you want to risk your game not working in this?

You can clear windows 100 times. You can run DDU 1000 times. It will never solve this issue and the GPU will always break on some applications and programs. This is what you are risking with AMD right now.

Evelyn Harthbrooke reacted to moatmote in Yet more misleading reporting from LTT. (And still no transparent issue tracker to report these things.)
The recent video on the Dasung E Ink monitor starts with a misleading intro that heavily implies permanent eye damage might result from using traditional monitors:
    This does two things:
It sets the tone of the video as either "This display, due to the nature of E Ink, may be the aforementioned 'solution'. Let's find out if it is." which could also be interpreted as "Dasung claims that this display, due to the nature of E Ink, is the aforementioned 'solution'. Let's test that claim." It suggests that there may be a link between light-emitting displays and permanent eye damage. Despite this, for the bulk of the remainder of the video, the claim above is never really put to the test until this chapter at the very end (aptly labeled "Contesting their claims"):
However, the well-informed or critically thinking among you may have already caught the problem with this section: It doesn't actually answer the questions they asked at the begining. Are traditional monitors permanently damaging your vision and is E Ink the "better solution"? All they've done here is establish that E Ink doesn't help with nearsightedness and digital eye strain.

The problem is that most people aren't going to catch this distinction. To most people watching this, the intro told them that something about light-emitting displays could permanently damage their eyes, and then asked if E Ink was the solution to this. Then, the chapter quoted above answered that question with a definitive "No, it's not just light-emitting displays. E Ink is not the 'solution'.", while talking a whole lot about "digital eye strain" all of a sudden. This directly correlates (in most people's minds) "digital eye strain" with "permanent eye damage", which is extremely misleading, as there is zero evidence that supports any correlation between the two.

Now to see if this post becomes popular enough that this is seen as an issue worth addressing. I'll end this with a quote of my own words, since even after all the recent controversy, a popularity contest (either here, on other socials, or in YouTube comments) is still the only way for your "community" to get issues in front of staff post-publishing.

tl;dr open a public issue tracker.

    ---

Edit because people love to read what they want to read instead of what I wrote:
How have you entirely missed the point? I never claimed that LTT claimed that light from monitors permanently hurt your eyes. I said that the statement sets an expectation for an answer in the video. And by not actually directly addressing those "what if"s in the conclusion, and instead answering a slightly different question, it's very easy for the layman to conflate the two.

After watching the intro, it's not hard to imagine that many people will be thinking "Oh I wonder if light from monitors is actually a problem that could lead to permanent vision damage and if E Ink is the answer. Let me keep watching to find out!" And upon hearing "E Ink still causes eye strain" at the end, reaching the conclusion "Oh they said E Ink still causes eye strain because of <stuff about focusing>, so the light wasn't the culprit and both technologies could lead to permanent damage to my vision because they both cause digital eye strain."

Is that a logically sound conclusion? No. Is that the conclusion this video baits people towards? Yes.

Internally this is a living document, and may change as we move forward, but as part of our push for further transparency, we are publishing it in its current form to help our community better-understand how we classify errors and what action we will be taking to rectify them.

    Types of errors
    Flubs: the host simply misspoke
Incongruencies: information within the video is not in agreement (e.g. host says “$45” while the product page shows “$47”
Bad spec: a table or MOGRT contains incorrect information (e.g. “48MB” instead of “96MB”
Bad data: a graph or visualization contains data (generated by us) that is erroneous, misplaced, or spurious.
Bad info: a statement or representation in the video that is misleading or factually inaccurate
    Types of error correction
Proactive (before the video is posted)
Video pickup: the segment is re-shot with both audio and video
Human audio pickup: new audio is recorded for the segment (visuals have coverage)
AI audio pickup: new voiceover is generated. In the best case this uses a voice model that sounds like the host. However, using a robot voice  can still work.
Text on screen: the editor overlays clarifying or correcting text
This will not be received by viewers who are not (or cannot) watching the screen
Reactive (after the video is posted)
Video Replace: replacing the video with a new version without re-uploading
This relies on YouTube and takes some time. There are fairly strict guidelines around the use of this tool and strong justification must be provided for all changes. This is preferred to a re-upload, but there is likely a soft-limit on how often we can use this resource.
Re-upload the video: Set the original, erroneous video to Private and upload a new version. This will have algorithmic effects, but must be done if replacement is not an option
Pinned comment: add a comment describing the correction.
This will not be received by viewers who do not check the comments (common, especially for those watching on a Smart TV) and should only be used for low-severity errors.

    Assessing & Responding to Errors
If any of the following types of errors are discovered prior to filming (e.g. during script review) , fix them before the shoot.

    1. Very Low Severity
    - The statement could possibly be misunderstood, but it’s generally true and most people would be fine with how it’s currently presented.
    - eg. The host says, “One of DisplayPort’s main advantages over HDMI is its higher bandwidth,” but this is only true when comparing certain generations of the standards. HDMI 2.1, for example, has much higher bandwidth than DP 1.1.

    Action: no action

    2. Low Severity
    - The statement is incorrect, and we should try to clarify it better in the future, but we can leave it for now because it doesn’t meaningfully impact a viewer’s purchase decision or general knowledge.
    - eg. The host says, “This monitor features moderate pixel response times and contrast because it uses an IPS panel”, but the panel manufacturer is actually AUO, rather than LG, so it’s not an IPS panel - a term which is trademarked by LG - but rather an IPS-type or IPS-like panel.

    Action: Pinned comment
Note: Pinned comment text must be approved by the Community Coordinator before being posted.

    3. Medium Severity
    - The statement is incorrect, and a minority of the audience could be upset or misled, even if it doesn’t really affect the outcome of the product evaluation for the majority.
    - eg. The host says, “This GPU has AMD’s AMF video encoder, which is basically the same as NVIDIA’s NVENC,” but while the stated functionality is the same, NVENC offers better image quality, which could be important to a small minority of buyers.

Action: Video replaced if possible according to YouTube policy, otherwise pinned comment and above fold mention of the issue in the video description
If doing a video replace, a pinned comment should communicate this is coming and note the expected changes. This comment should be un-pinned when the video replace is complete.
Note: Pinned comment text must be approved by the Community Coordinator before being posted.

    4. High Severity
    - The statement is incorrect, and a significant portion of the audience could be misled or make a poorly-informed purchase decision.
    - eg. The host says, “This is a great gaming monitor,” when in fact, the monitor is a 60Hz VA display that, while ‘fine’ for playing games, lacks important gaming-centric features that could be easily had for the same price, making it a poor choice.

Action: Video replaced if possible according to YouTube policy. Otherwise, set unlisted and disable monetization until corrective action can be taken.
If doing a video replace, a pinned comment should communicate this is coming and note the expected changes. This comment should be un-pinned when the video replace is complete.
Note: Pinned comment text must be approved by the Community Coordinator before being posted.

    5. Very High Severity
    - The statement is VERY incorrect—basically the opposite of correct. There is no charitable interpretation that could make this anything but completely irresponsible.
    - ex. The host says, “Most games require only one high-performance core to perform their best,” when that hasn’t been true for over a decade.

    Action: Video removed or remade

As for the cringy posts, I haven't read this entire thread. It is just too big to completely read through. But I agree that the community needs to work on improving itself and treating people better.

Not that you guys need the feedback, but I thought I'd throw my two cents in.

For perspective, I've been a viewer of, generally most LLT videos, since I stumbled onto the channel a long ass time ago (unboxing at the fountain days, I actually was researching the PC pre-unboxing cartoon linus, but not by much).
Since the I've just simply watched most of the videos, unless you are covering something I've zero interest in, and as I consider myself ae tech nerd, that means most videos.
In saying that, I've been mostly a passive viewer. I rarely comment, I just consume mostly. I've also been a fanboy if I'm honest with myself. All of this stuff going on has had me re-examine my perspective on LTT videos and LMG am I'm realising now that I have been a fanboy, I've not been aggressively defending you online but if has had another effect I'll get into below.

I first found out about the controversy was this video, as I'm not on the forms socially, or regularly (I work about 70ish hours a week plus commuting and I've a young son, plus I'm in my 40's, I just don't have the time), your video was the first I saw of it. Well ok, I saw the GN video come up in my feed but I was supposed to get back to it and only did today.
After watching your video I saw Phillip DeFranco cover it and today I watched the two GN videos on the topic.

My conclusion is that Gamers Nexus is mostly correct (except for the auctioning off thing, they know what Linus meant, it was not sold for profit but auctioned odd for charity, and it's a fair distinction to want to make, Steve should have been a bit more understanding there) and I can see that you guys recognise that too.
You are all clearly putting your heads together now to try to remedy the issues going forward, and that is commendable.

Thinking back now, I can see the errors you guys were making but j understand why.

If anyone in LMG cares specifically about my suggestions or requests:
Any short firm, quick firm video should be reshot or be dubbed before released, there should be no expectations here. As an example, these are ones I listen to while driving, working or doing general chores and do not watch, thry are almost always in the background. In fact some of them I consume on a podcast app.  Technical reviews, any graphic card reviews and the like, where there is a graph, unless there is an extremely good reason for it, the same cards and same colours should be used. If there was a testing fail, they should still be on the graph but noted as to what happened. Too many times I've seen one graph with one set of cards, games or set of results to have another similar graph have a difference between the stuff listed. It's jarring and makes it much harder to compare to the fly. As an example, in the (I believe, but I might be mixing up my videos) the AMD cpu review, the comparison graphs changed at one point, of on the cpu's I was using as my grounding perspective so I could compare to my experience was not in some of the graphs and I lost my perspective.  Corrections should be editted in, there not possible (or where it will take too much time) the video should be taken down and re-uploaded. A video staying up with an annotated correction should be the exception, should required director level approved. Seems mad, but making it such a high standard will raise overall standards.  Replies to controversial topics, public communications from personalities/companies or events should be approved by 2x senior managers from different departments or at a director level.  Consider hiring a public relations person, but have it only be part of their job. I don't want to see the WAN show or the general honesty change. Or maybe have someone in the business team deal with all official company responses. Linus is just too emotional and passionate about the company and community. Honestly I think I'd be the same in his shoes.  If technical results are off by too much this should be investigated and, if needs be, the video delayed. This will help catch mistakes. Allow the writers power to put a video on delay, if they are not happy with the content, they should be able to put the video on hold, pull it from the schedule and spend more time reviewing the content.  I feel a little bit (but honestly just a tiny bit) disappointed with the errors. Seems, l like you have said, errors due to self imposed pressures and goals. But I feel that parts of the community (a part I squarely place myself in) have let you down by either staying quiet or defending you when errors have presented themselves. I will start posting on the forum on videos that I'm unhappy with or where I see errors.

In saying that, you still have my love, loyalty and respect. Linus and Luke have shown themselves to be men of character, integrity an honesty going all the way back to the start. I've been following the WAN show since the garage (linus chewing on camera 🤢) days and I feel I know you (and I know I don't). I have never missed a WAN show, either live or vod (a tough ask give I live in Ireland 😂... christ, how many hours is that? 😱) so I have heard your opinions on do many topics.
To further that, the LMG staff have, in almost all cases, all shown themselves to be people of character, honestly and integrity and they have done nothing but build on the trust that was already there.

    Things that you should know:
Having someone say that a company (in this case Asus) generally produces good products is not an issue. It's a good statement, it's generally true and just seems to be high horse vs from Steve. I actually think it's a good comment to make from time to time, if some companies are known as generally reliable and trustworthy, maybe other companies will aspire to that?  Having relationships with Noctua, Framework and others is not a bad thing in my eyes. Although maybe you should have a internal person not connected to those companies review decisions to ensure some kind of check for bias.  Re GN, so there is no confusion, I hold them in the highest regard. They are professional, have the highest standards, have integrity and are extremely competent. I agree with most of what they said in both videos on the subject, but some of their points of comments/points of view seem overly harsh and don't give the LMG staff credit for just being caught up in their own orbit, blinded by it.

    Lastly
You need to reduce the number of videos that you publish weekly. I'd like to see a backlog of videos that are ready to go, finished and waiting. At least a couple of weeks worth (I know that will take time) so they can ve reviewed and analysed properly. Obviously time sensitive ones would be excluded (product releases etc) but any project (like the nuts watercooling ones, Linus house videos, crazy fan videos and so on) could easily be part of a good backlog giving staff time to breath and taking pressure off.  If a company/organisation/personality is unhappy with a review AND gives details of errors, that video should be reexamined careful by someone (ideally the writer) and then someone else who was not already involved. In my place we call this 4 eyes, a second set of unrelated eyes giving it a fresh look. Take more time consuming ways of fixing the videos, less corrections in annotations a d more checking and editing.  Don't be afraid to pull a video down, fix it and re-upload it. It's really critical to do the hard thing. I know this has a negative impact on your analytics but even more reason to do it. It's the correct thing to do, it's the hard thing and it will force you to make sure it doesn't happen again. Like Like said, you have to let things fail so you can fix them. Stop the band-aids.

As for my comment re: the allegations, they are just that. Allegations. Until proven true or false, they should be treated as such. And with LMG doing an internal review, and hiring an outside investigator, I am sure a conclusion will be found soon as to whether or not Madison's claims are truly accurate, or if they are false. If they end up being false, I expect LMG to look into legal action over Madison attempting to damage their reputation with false claims. Discrimination, sexual harassment or abuse, or other toxic workplace conditions are explicitly forbidden under multiple Canadian laws and statutes, including the Criminal Code of Canada, numerous provincial acts in British Columbia, and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms itself.

The truth will reveal itself. Until then I am not picking a side.

Evelyn Harthbrooke reacted to LinusTech in Gamers Nexus alleges LMG has insufficient ethics and integrity
There won't be a big WAN Show segment about this or anything. Most of what I have to say, I've already said, and I've done so privately.

To Steve, I expressed my disappointment that he didn't go through proper journalistic practices in creating this piece. He has my email and number (along with numerous other members of our team) and could have asked me for context that may have proven to be valuable (like the fact that we didn't 'sell' the monoblock, but rather auctioned it for charity due to a miscommunication... AND the fact that while we haven't sent payment yet, we have already agreed to compensate Billet Labs for the cost of their prototype). There are other issues, but I've told him that I won't be drawn into a public sniping match over this and that I'll be continuing to move forward in good faith as part of 'Team Media'. When/if he's ready to do so again I'll be ready.

To my team (and my CEO's team, but realistically I was at the helm for all of these errors, so I need to own it), I stressed the importance of diligence in our work because there are so many eyes on us. We are going through some growing pains - we've been very public about them in the interest of transparency - and it's clear we have some work to do on internal processes and communication. We have already been doing a lot of work internally to clean up our processes, but these things take time. Rome wasn't built in a day, but that's no excuse for sloppiness.

Now, for my community, all I can say is the same things I always say. We know that we're not perfect. We wear our imperfection on our sleeves in the interest of ensuring that we stay accountable to you. But it's sad and unfortunate when this transparency gets warped into a bad thing. The Labs team is hard at work hard creating processes and tools to generate data that will benefit all consumers - a work in progress that is very much not done and that we've communicated needs to be treated as such. Do we have notes under some videos? Yes. Is it because we are striving for transparency/improvement? Yeah... What we're doing hasn't been in many years, if ever.. and we would make a much larger correction if the circumstances merited it. Listing the wrong amount of cache on a table for a CPU review is sloppy, but given that our conclusions are drawn based on our testing, not the spec sheet, it doesn't materially change the recommendation. That doesn't mean these things don't matter. We've set KPIs for our writing/labs team around accuracy, and we are continually installing new checks and balances to ensure that things continue to get better. If you haven't seen the improvement, frankly I wonder if you're really looking for it... The thoroughness that we managed on our last handful of GPU videos is getting really incredible given the limited time we have for these embargoes. I'm REALLY excited about what the future will hold.

With all of that said, I still disagree that the Billet Labs video (not the situation with the return, which I've already addressed above) is an 'accuracy' issue. It's more like I just read the room wrong. We COULD have re-tested it with perfect accuracy, but to do so PROPERLY - accounting for which cases it could be installed in (none) and which radiators it would be plumbed with (again... mystery) would have been impossible... and also didn't affect the conclusion of the video... OR SO I THOUGHT...

I wanted to evaluate it as a product, and as a product, IF it could manage to compete with the temperatures of the highest end blocks on the planet, it still wouldn't make sense to buy... so from my point of view, re-testing it and finding out that yes, it did in fact run cooler made no difference to the conclusion, so it didn't really make a difference.

Adam and I were talking about this today. He advocated for re-testing it regardless of how non-viable it was as a product at the time and I think he expressed really well today why it mattered. It was like making a video about a supercar. It doesn't mater if no one watching will buy it. They just wanna see it rip.  I missed that, but it wasn't because I didn't care about the consumer.. it was because I was so focused on how this product impacted a potential buyer. Either way, clearly my bad, but my intention was never to harm Billet Labs. I specifically called out their incredible machining skills because I wanted to see them create something with a viable market for it and was hoping others would appreciate the fineness of the craftsmanship even if the product was impractical. I still hope they move forward building something else because they obviously have talent and I've watched countless niche water cooling vendors come and go. It's an astonishingly unforgiving market.

Either way, I'm sorry I got the community's priorities mixed-up on this one, and that we didn't show the Billet in the best light. Our intention wasn't to hurt anyone. We wanted no one to buy it (because it's an egregious waste of money no matter what temps it runs at) and we wanted Billet to make something marketable (so they can, y'know, eat).

With all of this in mind, it saddens me how quickly the pitchforks were raised over this. It also comes across a touch hypocritical when some basic due diligence could have helped clarify much of it. I have a LONG history of meeting issues head on and I've never been afraid to answer questions, which lands me in hot water regularly, but helps keep me in tune with my peers and with the community. The only reason I can think of not to ask me is because my honest response might be inconvenient.

We can test that... with this post. Will the "It was a mistake (a bad one, but a mistake) and they're taking care of it" reality manage to have the same reach? Let's see if anyone actually wants to know what happened. I hope so, but it's been disheartening seeing how many people were willing to jump on us here. Believe it or not, I'm a real person and so is the rest of my team. We are trying our best, and if what we were doing was easy, everyone would do it. Today sucks.

Depending on your used market, a used 980Ti or even a 1070 would be a better option.

Get the HT-Z9F then. It's a Dolby Atmos + DTS:X soundbar & from the way it sounded in the video posted today featuring the soundbar, it sounds really dang good. Plus if you wanted to, you could add the optional wireless satellites later on to improve the sound further. Plus, it comes with a subwoofer which will give you plenty of bass during action-packed movies & TV shows (and maybe music, depending on if you plan on playing music through your TV). Also, I'm pretty sure it'll be better than the Samsung & JBL soundbars you listed alongside the HT-Z9F.

No. It's less powerful than the 1050 Ti. Save up, and just get the 1050 Ti. It'll benefit you more than a 950 would. And in my opinion there's not much point to get a low end Maxwell card anyways. Stick with Pascal.

Apple doesn't go after Hackintoshers. It went after Psystar Corporation, but that was because they were building and selling built-Hackintosh systems. However, Apple doesn't go after individuals. Just like how they don't sue people for jailbreaking their device, but that's because jailbreaking is not illegal, and hasn't been since 2010.

Honestly, paying the $99/year shows you're committed to your app. If developers decide to abandon their app later on, they don't have to renew their Developer Program membership. At least that's my take on it. Might be wrong, but I don't know.

I think you broke your quotes, as they have no content inside of them. Also, what silly system? The fact you have to pay to publish stuff in the App Stores/Safari Extension Gallery? I don't think it's silly. I think it's smart. Also, Google also makes you pay a fee to publish apps on Google Play, so Apple isn't the only one.
