Would be the step-down if you need space for other items, though there might be a cheaper Intel option at that range. (Would need to check motherboards)

Because of high RAM & GPU prices, we'd have previously gotten a lot better build for this price range.

@shamelesscomb that's with a 1080 Ti. With a 1050 Ti, it'll always be GPU limited, minus some Game Engine issues.

If the build by @Herman Mcpootis is good enough to play the games I mentioned and stream, then I'll just go with his.  It looks pretty fine to me.

Nah. A bigger PSU like a 750 or 850W would only make sense for xfire/SLI.

CPU cooler comes with the CPU and since it's a locked sku you don't need an aftermarket one. Also, you can get the OS off of G2A or /r/microsoftsoftwareswap or whatever it's called for like $40.

Great build you got there! But you might want to go with one stick of 8 gb ram instead of 2 4 gb sticks. With 2 4gb sticks, you get a max capacity of 16. But, with one stick of 8, you get a max of 32gb. I know you dont take use of dual channel memory with one stick, but thats my suggestion. Also, watercooling can be set aside as an upgrade because that 212 evo you have will do you wonders. But, if you want watercooling now, check out the watercooling part of the forum, really helpful people there.

BTW, if your new to building a pc and need any help, send me a message and I can guide you if you want!

I've used these wireless mice for quite a while. Great battery life and are good quality. A bit loud on the clicks if that matters.

Replace the hdd in the laptop with the ssd. Put your original hdd in the hdd caddy and replace your dvd drive with that.
There you go: Speed and storage without paying a ludicrous amount of money with 2 hdd slots.

It doesn't have a dvd drive which wouldn't let you replace the dvd drive with an ssd and wouldn't be as fast.

Despite all this, I think it's actually better to get a cheaper laptop with good battery life and build your own desktop. Portable laptop with long battery life for on the go, powerful desktop for when you're at home. Again, just an opinion.

    It has nearly the same dimensions as the MSI one. 15.09" x 9.83" x 1.27-1.46" 5.28 lbs (MSI) vs 15.23" x 10.19" x 0.61-1.41" 5.95lb (Lenovo).
It seems like size and weight isn't a big factor for him taking into consideration on the laptops he chose. If he wants a smaller lighter one, he could go for a Y410p. The MSI laptop is actually the faster one if he chooses the one without SLI. The reason that I like the Y series is because you can get an SSD without spending a bunch. I would have gone for the MSI laptop if it came at a more affordable price point when you upgrade to an SSD. I also think the Lenovo looks better but that's just my opinion.

I would also consider the Lenovo Ideapad Y series. More specifically, Y410p or a Y510p. I would choose a model with an SSD. They all come with a GT 750M and they even have one's with SLI 750M's if you don't mind losing a optical drive slot (only on the Y510p). The older versions come with 3rd gen i7's if you want to save a little money. They are similarly priced to the laptops you are looking at. In my opinion, these are the best bang for the buck laptops that I could find.

You'll be able to boot up Windows in anywhere from 10-20 seconds on SSD vs 30-60 seconds on a regular hard drive, plus any programs you might open for computer sciences will load much quicker off the SSD too. SSD's also have the advent of being more durable with no moving parts, so lugging it to and from class it will probably last longer. Obviously the downside to an SSD is price for GB compared to traditional drives, and that's something you'll have to decide if you need based on your storage requirements.
Personally, I get by fine with an Intel 330 Series 180GB SSD on my laptop for web design work, and supplement it with a slim Seagate USB3.0 500GB GoFlex external when I need too.

Believe it or not, some people don't mind extra weight and other even like it. Some people prefer a laptop that is light, portable and has long battery life. Others like laptops that are powerful and don't mind weight and size. There's a reason both kinds of laptops exist, there's a market for them. What your are expressing is an opinion and you are entitled to that. Just don't automatically assume that everyone shares that same opinion.
