There have been multiple instances where minors have found content of themselves on the platform with the site refusing to take it down due to the amount of money it was making. Just gonna point that out.

You can buy merch at lttstore.com that have the LTT logo and branding on them, so people who see you they will automatically know you're good with computers but have a crippling gravity addiction.

One thing you can do is find out how the person got that information. Generally, searching "[friend's name] [city which friend lives in]" will do. On these websites (whitepages, clustrmaps, general info finding sites) there is always an information takedown form. You can manually ask for your friend's info to be removed to help prevent them getting doxxed in the future.

piemadd reacted to Blade of Grass in Managerial Positions In the Tech World
You're unlikely to get a management position out of the gate at any serious company. If you want to be an engineering manager, you should start as an engineer and work your way up (otherwise you won't know anything about engineering). If you want to be a product manager, you should start in an entry level role in PM and work your way up.

There's a reason why they're called "entry level" positions.

EDIT: Also, engineers have two paths at most companies, they can continue up the engineering chain (and get titles like Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, etc) which is similar-ish to a management role (you'll be managing projects and engineers), just with more direct hands on with the technical direction the engineering work is going, or you switch over to the business side, get an MBA and get titles like Director or VP etc, and start managing the business direction the company/department goes.

piemadd reacted to LAwLz in "Exclusive: Why Apple M1 Single "Core" Comparisons Are Fundamentally Flawed (With Benchmarks)"
Ah yes, Usman Pirzada. The person who is really salty his favorite company is now being beat by Apple so he post article after article, tweet after tweet, grasping at straws for why anything showing the M1 in good light is invalid.

For those who do not want to give WCCFTech any clicks (since they don't deserve it), the claims the article makes is that since Intel and AMD have SMT, it is unfair to do single core tests against the M1 which do not have SMT.
"It's unfair to run a benchmark which only executes on one thread on a CPU that could run two threads on a single core" is the argument. There, saved you a click.

The problem with that argument is that if a program only has one thread, then it won't care that your CPU could execute two threads on a single core. All it cares about is per thread performance. If you change the wording from "per core performance" to "per thread performance" all of Usman's arguments fall flat on their face.

But like I said, since his favorite company is threatened he has to grasp at straws and go
Except you know... when people say single core score they generally mean single threaded score. Hell, Windows and other schedulers even sees each thread as an individual core. So single thread and single core performance are interchangeable words even though WCCFTech tries to make the argument that they are completely different and therefore people should stop saying Apple has the best single core performance.

They "prove" this then by running a benchmark at two threads for the x86 chips, and one thread for the M1 tests. Yeah... Totally fair comparison... In some tests he didn't even care to run them, he just straight up took AMD and Intel scores, added 30% to the score and went "herp derp this is their true single core score, not what the benchmark actually shows".

This comment summed it up really well:

    Stop reading WCCFTech.
It really is a garbage website. The people over there have very little technical understanding of the things they cover, and most of their content is either rumors they saw on Twitter, or stuff like this where they deliberately try to stir up a controversy to get clicks both from people desperate to find some reason to say "Apple bad" (or whichever company they are covering) and from people who feel like they have to jump in and defend Apple (or whichever company they are covering).

piemadd reacted to AbdulMubdiBIndarNewbie in Techquickie channel playlist management suggestion: please do it like LTT
I am a novice in the tech world. A little bit of trip down memory lane, I started to dig deeper into computer-related topics when I found a Techquickie video on LTT YouTube channel page at around the end of 2019. My world has changed after that moment. I was a person who just tell myself "Okay, i7 is better than i5 and i5 is better than i3." and was very excited when my dad gave his i7-8250U 7500U laptop (ASUS Vivobook A442U/X442U) for an "upgrade" to my i3 laptop (later I know that it wasn't an upgrade since they have the same 2 cores). I also always asked myself "Hey, what is i7 counterpart in AMD?", googled it but never understands. Not like after I watched numerous Techquickie videos, now I understand that there are more than that when it comes to CPUs: clock speed, core & thread counts, TDP, cache etc. etc.

Now onto the suggestion. After watching numerous videos, I noticed that Techquickie contents are just crammed in As Fast As Possible playlist. Meanwhile Linus Tech Tips channel has a playlist per video topic like video cards, peripherals, displays and monitors, CPUs, and so on. So I think that it is better for Techquickie to organize the playlist in a similar way, then people who want to learn a certain topic can go directly to the playlist and just "window shop" what they want to know instead of typing color depth techquickie , for example, on YouTube search bar. They might also can notice that a certain topic hasn't been created based on that topic and therefore suggest it for the next video.

I hope this long post finds itself fit in the forum and can make to reality some day. I also would like to thank LMG team for everything that they work on.

That's what the scale parameter does (I scale it using opencv), unfortunately the accuracy isn't quite the same. Of course it depends on the video - in this case there are a few shots where the person is pretty far from the camera so lowering the resolution hurts the output.

It's kind of weird how someone who was just so influential over the pc community, with his name mentioned left and right on the daily, is moving on with life. We all remember those videos where Linus would talk about the Fractal Josh in his videos, leaving a sense of superstition. I wish Josh the best, and though I guess this isn't technically tech news, I feel like it is something the community should hear about.
