  3. Vertical PCiE riser comes today! I'll take the feedback I received from my last images to show off my 3080. I get paid Fridayish, and then it'll just be a waiting game for the 5800x to get in stock (might even go for a 5900x but idk if I really need that many cores)

I got my gpu purely by luck. Something inside me said "check ebay rn you dumbfuck", so I did. There it was, a 2 month old 3080 for MSRP. I've yet to have a problem with it so its nice.

The new taxes being set don't really help out. Regardless of it being AMD or NVidia, we're going to see very overpriced gpus in the coming months. Sucks ass

      Yes, this is engagement.

Interacting because you have a connection with the creator of said content is exactly what engagement is.

This is why I will watch a video of Anthony talking about retro game emulation even though I have barely any interest in retro gaming.

I like Anthony, I like his voice, his presentation style, and I pick up a few things that give me a reason to watch even though the subject matter is outside my area of interest.

I agree with this 100% and is what I'm trying to express but when I say engagement I'm not referring to previous experiences with a user I'm talking about a "out-of-context" post. A single post that doesn't engage other users. Something random and pointless. A user with an established following would see much more response from followers than a person who hasn't built the same following but who's content was exposed to the same number of people.

If you take this idea and apply it to a hypothetical scenario regardless of what the post says one user will see much more of a response than the other.

And I think that's at least partially why pierom_qwerty received no reaction from anyone at all.

This is true, and Den's example above applies slightly differently for me.

When sub/'chew post something anime related, I often read it, even if I have little to no interest in it.

Likewise, when den posts a $500 keyboard, I also interact with it, because I am interested in what he does.

Post good things that people like, and people will probably follow along for more, potentially reacting/commenting along the way. (that's how I got here, after all).

However, if you're just starting, these things do tend to get lost in the stream of new SU's.

Slightly more on topic, congrats on the new board @pierom_qwerty!

We're all on the same page then and more-or-less in agreement. 🙂

And you do bring up a good point. Even if content (like a new motherboard) is a very popular thing on a platform like this (which I'd say it is) if it get's buried in a slew of SU's and your followers don't show an interest then... 😭

Also just kind of a random side-note I find the follower system is almost pointless. I have 49 people following me but I can tell you no more than 10 are active members. The rest are just dead accounts. 😕

The follower system works for users, but yeah, this isn't a good place to grow an audience.

      Oh well!

40-odd people were the "Help me with this one problem then I'm never returning to this website!" type. Like...why did you press the follow button then?

For as active I keep hearing the LTTForum is compared to others there sure is a massive number of people who don't stick around.

Yeah, I get you for the most part. That just happens with time. My first few pages of status updates have 1 or 2 reacts at most. Engagement requires consistency.

It's not just good content or random content. It is your body of work as a whole that gets engagement up.

A good example of this is I could post a status update that literally just says "butts." In fact, I HAVE. Does everyone get it? Nah. Do people on here that know me get it? Yep. So it gets interaction even though it is one word.

I mean, throwing myself under the bus here as well I recently went back to my first couple pages of SU's 5 years ago and absolutely nobody interacted with them at all two or three pages, dead, nobody. My content has changed since then but what I talk about is still a very niche topic. Most people don't care about servers & networking here that's clearly indicated by the lack of posts in the sub-forum (the YouTube channel doesn't talk about them often so go figure). The very first few people to follow me 4~5 years ago were actually a couple of moderators. wkdpaul & leadeater to be exact. I'll be honest I didn't know how to make heads or tails of that. The first people to follow you are a couple of moderator staff...like, did I do something wrong? 😄 After that though things started growing and people started liking and commenting. Now it's very rare that nobody response or reacts. In fact compared to about 75% of the SU's I'm actually kind-of popular. 😳

I could be brutally honest about why he doesn't get engagement, but I don't really know how to put it in a way that doesn't come across poorly over text.

Admittedly again throwing myself under the bus I'm not totally innocent either. I have my moments, you were involved in at least one, which is why I think a couple of the people who fall into the "the content isn't interesting but I like the person"  category stopped reacting or commenting after they became acquainted with my tendencies.

  12. Got a new mobo for my bday

Heavily @Den-Fiinspired pics (Note: these are unedited but I felt like they worked just fine tbh. I'm not a huge photography nerd but I kept the .cr2 files if I want to edit them later) (also i have shaky hands and am a terrible photographer, this is the best these mofos gonna get) (also always-on repls come out next week so i'll have a dedicated photo server for this sort of stuff)

Thinking about getting back into posting regula…

I would too, but 6 months ago me who ordered the parts was not smart about parts selection. What's probably going to happen is that I'm going to end up selling the completed system or its parts online once the build is complete and then go for an EPYC-based system.
  20. Thinking about getting back into posting regularly on the forum. I still remember like 4ish years ago prowling google news for tech stories and rushing to be the first one to post about them on here.

Would anyone be interested in the proper building of a server using the same motherboard Linus uses in this video?

If/when you do look into the 7551/7551P. It's the best bang for the buck I've found on eBay. Opt for the 7551 if you want multi-socket support.
