UnitD77 reacted to DrJones in I bought a 950 Pro 512GB
I have a 950 pro 512GB as my OS/Boot drive. Such a beast, takes me longer to Post than to Load up Windows. Then got 850 Pro 512GB's in RAID 10 for my data

UnitD77 got a reaction from MR2 in I bought a 950 Pro 512GB
Ok so I didn't buy it... I asked for it for my birthday, and someone actually shelled out $315 to spend on me. Crazy I know. I might of prefered a 500GB 850 EVO and some cool LED case fans.
Well I got it installed, and I tell you, the boot time is to be labeled as instant. The window's blue window with my name on it flashed on the screen.
As for games... They are fast.... How fast compared to, a 850 EVO.... I'm not sure, I don't have a 850 EVO. In fact I didn't have a SSD before the 950 Pro.
It did bring the total price of my PC to $1900.
I went on Userbenchmark and tested the speed there for now, And it was the fastest in every single category.
My Crystal Disk results were as follows.
Read [MB/s] Write [MB/s]
2404 1495
1062 384.3
1825 1526
46.15 238.8
I wanted to share my results, and Have someone show me their 850 EVO is only a smidge slow and I wont see any gaming benefits. Gotta feel bad about my gift somehow right?

UnitD77 got a reaction from Tom Hanks in i7 920 bench off? GTX 970 SLi.
So even a 920 is still fast enough to not significantly bottleneck a 980 SLI. Interesting.
Edit: 4.4Ghz i7 lol thats why it isn't bottlenecking. OCed af.
My i5 550 at 2.6Ghz was a bottleneck.

Do you have onboard video. Use that to download the drivers.
make sure it is firmly installed into the slot. make sure your cables are plugged in correctly, and are not torn or tearing at any point along the cord.

No do not reformat your drives. That is way too far.

That is terrible troubleshooting.

I got the H110i GT and love it. If your case says it supports radiators then you will have clearance.

UnitD77 reacted to Captain_WD in Good Reliable HDD?
Hey J/C :)
What are you using your system for? What will you be storing on that secondary drive? Do you have a SSD as a primary drive or is it another HDD?
As @UnitD77 suggested, WD Black is a good option for a reliable data drive as it is designed for heavier and longer workloads and a good 5-year warranty.
Another good option for a simple data drive would be WD Blue (either the 7,200 rpm or the 5,400 rpm, depending on your needs).
What makes you think that your current WD Blue drive is failing? Have you checked the drive's S.M.A.R.T. status? Have you tried running WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if the drive passes both the quick and the extended tests?
Captain_WD.

UnitD77 got a reaction from Hendrics in Windows installed on a separate drive
As long as you haven't set your docs and downloads and such, onto another drive as default locations. Then yes, just unplug the other drives. Boot up and format.

You might have to re-set up your file preferences for what drive everything goes to, but it won't destroy your computer.
As long as your entire steam program and games are on another drive. You "should" be fine.
I say "Should" but I can't know for sure as I only have every had 1 drive.

Should be a toolbar icon... That should (from what i remember) just reboot your computer into the installer as if from a disc. It automatically updates the current activation key you have. You set which drive you want to install it to. I'd recommend wiping the drive prior, but you can't when doing the upgrade.

Nope nope nope. you're having a problem then. Reset the OC to stock speeds and restart your computer. Then try to run the game again.

AMD calls their program Catalyst and Crimson (shade of red) is their driver designation.

UnitD77 got a reaction from ClobberXD in Is the MSI 1070 GAMING worth buying factory overclocked?
LTT did a video on factory overclocking,
And yes.... there is potential value for overclocks out of the box.
And yes, Your card will only overclock so much when you get it.
And a thing to note is higher end cards, like EVGA FTW, have a non reference board, and so they achieve overclocks way superior than anything you'll see from a reference card. ASUS 1080 Strix is massive overclock out of the box, larger than im sure some people will even get from other aftermarket cards, so yes the extra money you spend on a factory overclock is well worth it. I always go for the best edition available. Oh no I paid an extra $30 than the one edition lower.... oh well, I guess I can't go to b-dubs for dinner.
Why start behind and have to catch up before you can advance, when you can just only get better out of the box.
