One thing I would change is not go for a Z series board with a locked cpu, unless you're absolutely sure you're going to be upgrading to an 8700k later (which I wouldn't personally do with a 400 watt power supply)

monjessenstein got a reaction from Ashley MLP Fangirl in Is this a good deal?
2.8ghz i7 is pretty vague, and the 2gb video is REALLY vague. I'd ask about the specific parts before I'd buy it.

monjessenstein got a reaction from Fraser Cow in Can someone find me a guide for overclocking 8600k?
You'll see a different bios layout on the guide, but the fundamentals will be the same so there should be no problem.

And more importantly higher IPC (instructions per cycle) So it does more per clock. For example, the 7700k would be faster at 4Ghz than the 2700k at 4Ghz.

If your temps are in the 90s you're probably running into a thermal limit, though I personally don't know about which temepratures the 8th gen cpu's start throttling.

How tight of a budget are you on? You might be able to find an i5-2400 used.

Suppose so, as long as it also has a decent warranty and an equal or better 80plus rating.

Was a second-hand buy, so I'd have to pay shipping to send it back. in that case I'd prefer to jsut sell it at a similair price.

monjessenstein got a reaction from rogueone in Ryzen 1600 question!
Pros of the 1600x: higher factory speeds
Pros of 1600: coomes with a stock cooler, and can OC past the 1600x with it.

As a 1600 user myself, I'd say go for the 1600 considering ryzen master allows easy overclocking, I got mine to 3.9 on all cores, though I didn't go further since I was hitting 70-80C. Another negative of the 1600X is that you also have to buy an additional cooler, further increasing the price gap.

A 1050ti will very likely not get bottlenecked, I'd say it's just right. Either that or an rx460, though I'd stay away form the 750ti if you can get the 1050ti.

May I ask why you are upgrading the motherboard? It seems like a weird thing to upgrade with a locked processor. Do you have the 6600k or just the normal 6600?

Nope, no limit, though I wouldn't be surprised with the 'too many people downloading' as I have a feeling that it downloads faster at night.

Hello OP, why do you need a cpu cooler for your gpu? could you explain the situation a bit to us, considering we would probably think that you cna just run with the cooler your card came with.

monjessenstein got a reaction from goodtofufriday in Apogee Drive 2 and a delid 4790k - recommended?
Delidding a cpu will not change it's compatability with anything, since you're essentially just changing the thermal paste under the 'mini-heatsink' on the chip. So as long as you're careful to not cause any damage t break the cpu in the delidding process you'll be just fine.

Because that cooler should be making next to no noise at all. Either it's starved for air, or you haven't tuned with the fan settings yet,

I have a 4690k with a seidon 240m water cooler, and I admit you had to screw it on TIGHT. I seriously felt like I was going to push trough my motherboard, so I see your concerns. Still though, everything's been working fine for about a year now, OC'd to 4.7.

monjessenstein got a reaction from UMxMarky94 in looking for good motherboard.
As long as you slot it in the correct port it should always work, wether it's the newest high end motherboard, some old crappy dell one or in your case a gigabyte board. I suggest trying another video card or device in that same slot to see if it's dead, because my motherboard also had a failing pci express slot.

Look on the side of your graphics card, if there is a 6 pin or 8 pin connector you will need to get a power supply which has the required pins

The 210 can draw all the power it needs from the motherboard, but the 650 requires more power and needs to draw some extra from the psu.

You won't be able to use the 4 pin connectors for your graphics crad, since those are meant for your cpu.
Those two large 4 slot connectors on the bottom photo are molex ports, you could buy a molex to 6 pin adapter, though I'd like to know what psu and cpu you have to make sure the system has enough wattage.

Yeah, that's true XD. I figured he might have some kind of dell unit with plenty of wattage, but without the proper connectors. I'm currently making a sleeper pc build with q6600 and an hd6970, but had to replace the psu due to it not having any 6/8 pin connectors even though the wattage was enough.
