  1. I noticed the PSU seems to run a bit higher on windows 7 at idle. 12.52-53 It still hasn't crashed yet and i played a bit of GTA5 on the windows 7 partition.
  2. its about 3 years old now i got it at Staples http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Brand-New-Sealed-Retail-Plus-700W-80-Bronze-Semi-Modular-ATX-Power-Supply-/141098854569 The EVGA guy said it seemed a bit high also when i gave him the BIOS readings of 12.45-12.51 as it was fluctuating then. but was within range. I used an actual multimeter to get those numbers not software which has the potential of being inaccurate. I had another TDR error while browsing chrome about 2 hours ago. I finally said fk it and reinstalled windows 7. If the errors are gone...what should i conclude? If they are still there I will consider upgrading to a new pc as its about time.
  3. Here are the test results hooking up to the 12+v Bios: 12.48v Idle: 12.51v prime95: 12.48v furmark: 12.38v prime95 blend +furmark: 12.39v vlc playing video + few tabs open in chrome: 12.50v grand theft auto 5: 12.45v does this rule out the PSU? Also once it reaches those voltages its pretty steady only fluctuates by .01v up or down
  4. 3 Years old now. Its a "retail plus" 700 watt bronze rated Staples brand. I bought a multi-meter tonight i needed one anyways im gonna test it out and see what the actual readings are. on the 12v rail
  5. So now i've just ran GTA5 for an hour with no crashes? honestly wtf is going on. Im running windows 10 already i don't know how much more i can upgrade the OS. I plugged my computer directly into the wall to rule out a bad power strip. Thats the only thing left. A bad psu a bad mobo or a bad cpu. Why would all of this start as soon as i upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7? Also why now am i only getting 1 TDR per 5 days whereas with the old graphics card i would have several per day. A bad mobo or CPU doesn't really add up to the symptoms. Edit: I actually just cancelled the PSU. im gonna borrow one from a shop first to see if that is actually the issue. No point in wasting 180 dollars when i don't need to. Even though the new psu would go into a new system i dont want to spend the money at least yet. Especially after having no crashes when playing gta5 for an hour. So fucking perplexing i hate issues like this
  6. xfx 680i LT (latest bios) q6600 (stock) gtx 460 (old card caused more TDRs doing general everyday pc use and no gaming) RMA'd card gtx 950 sc (latest drivers and 1 TDR in 5 days yet consistent TDR in gaming but not stress test) 4gb ddr2 (ran memtest overnight) brand new WD hdd with windows 10 installed directly from microsoft store brand (retail plus 80 bronze 700 watt psu So I had been getting TDR black screen crashes sporadically with my gtx 460 when just using the internet and watching youtube or movies. I would get the black screen and would be forced to reboot my computer. The crash dumps always said it was "Probably caused by: nvlddmkm.sys" So i ended up calling EVGA to get an RMA. They were telling me that my PSU was running a bit high and the only way i can check my PSU voltages are through the bios and it was reading 12.45-12.51 jumping back and forth between those two numbers when i had the gtx 460 in there. Its a cheap bronze rated 700 watt Staples store brand. They said they would send me a new card anyways for RMA. I received the GTX 950 SC last week and i thought my TDR issues were solved when I got one TDR lastnight while watching a show on VLC. The screen went black and i was forced to reboot my computer. The crashes seem to be way less frequent than they were before because its only happened once in 5 days with the gtx 950 vs several times a day with the gtx 460. This 950 uses 90watts TDP of power whereas the gtx 460 uses 160 watts. I also noticed in the bios that the 12v wasn't jumping from 12.45-12.51 it was steady at 12.45 with the GTX 950 installed. After getting that first TDR in 5 days with the gtx 950 i installed GTA 5 just to test out the card even more. Within about 10 minutes of gameplay i got a TDR. The second time i tried it happened within 20 minutes of gameplay. The weird thing is i can't get it to TDR when running furmark and prime95 at the same time. I've also run memtest overnight and the ram seems to check out fine. It wont crash in stress tests but crashes consistently in gta5? I've already ordered a new PSU and it should be here early next week. Any other ideas on what it could be? I didn't seem to get these errors when i had windows 7 installed. Yet after I installed windows 10 im now getting TDR errors.
  7. well thanks for the quick reply. Appreciate your help
  8. really? when i touched the heatsink its pretty damn hot without the small fan going. here is the metal portion that sits on the chipset and here is the fan that is removable from that metal portion. Will a big fan pointed towards it be sufficient in cooling it directly?
  9. So the southbridge fan on my xfx 680i LT motherboard is making one hell of a racket. Would it be ok to run the southbridge with no fan until i can replace the fan? I have to order it online and it may take 2 weeks to get here. THere is nothing locally. I can take the fan off and leave the small metal heatsink thing around it. Any thoughts? My system isn't overclocked
  10. if my board is 55mm this seems like a pretty good option http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dynatron-V31G-12V-Ball-Bearing-Video-Card-Chipset-Cooler-3-pin-connector-55mm-/370263133606?hash=item5635670da6:g:L9oAAOSwEppUOB1t
  11. ya my bad i edited my post after. I definitely don't want to wait over a month to receive it. I'm assuming the 55mm to 61mm are for different motherboards. Its hard to tell when trying to find fans if they are talking about the fan size or the screw hole distance
  12. I may have inadvertently found a place to buy it........... Although i've never used aliexpress before but it says free shipping to canada hmmmmmmmmmm... http://www.aliexpress.com/item/NVIDIA-55mm-61mm-3Pin-North-South-Bridge-Motherboard-Chipset-Cooler-Cooling-Fan-for-XFX-Motherboard/624262243.html Edit: it says over a month to get here..not liking that
  13. i guess its this fan here.... looks like a heatsink type of fan. I guess now i know the size. Any good place to buy from Canada? http://www.aliexpress.com/item/NVIDIA-55mm-61mm-3Pin-North-South-Bridge-Motherboard-Chipset-Cooler-Cooling-Fan-for-XFX-Motherboard/624262243.html
