Since subject of this game is highly political, and forum rules don't allow talk about politics, I've removed the political message from this post. Same goes to any post that is talking about politics and not the actual game.

Looking at the list. the SB6141 and the SB6183 would be the best of the cheaper options. I dont have exprience with Zoom products Id imagine they will work. The SB6141 tops out at about 200Mbps, I have this modem, its rock solid, but its cant do much over 200 Mbps. The SB8200, CM1000,CM1100 are solid from what I hear but they are hell of expensive as they are newer Docsis 3.1 modems. If it were me, Id consider the SB6183, BUT your provider is kinda fucked up in their speed tiers, as the SB6183 can support fasters speeds than 200 Mbps, Not sure if it can do 500 Mbps however, technically speaking the SB6190 should be able to HIT 500 Mbps, but they seem to only allow D3.1 modems for faster speeds. Go with the SB6183 if you think your not going to upgrade your speeds any time soon, other wise pick a D3.1 modem.

Just make sure you dont buy the SB6190 its a 32x8 modem, BUT it has issues, the Intel Puma 6 chip has known issues that they cant fix. These issues are well documented over at DSLreports.com, but any Puma 6 modem is garbage.

Router wise most will tell you ASUS or Netgear. I myself have a Synology RT2600AC, but its expensive. $200 USD just for the router. Guidelines for a router however would be at least WiFi 5 (Wireless AC).

See if your ISP has a list of compatible devices. Also if in the budget look at 16x4 or 24x8 devices. They will support faster speeds if you upgrade and help if the network becomes a bit congested. Besdies that I cant really recommend combo devices as they tend to suck.

Check and see what your ISP provides. I prefer buying my own router, but with that budget, you are probably better using their's. A <$100 router is going to struggle to provide gigabit connections (it might work for speed tests, but will fall short once you get 5+ devices actively using it).

If the ISP doesn't provide anything, or charges an additional fee, and if your budget is non-negotiable, consider this router...
    https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-R6700-Nighthawk-Gigabit-Ethernet/dp/B00R2AZLD2/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=netgear+router+802.11ac&qid=1574448413&refinements=p_89%3ANETGEAR&rnid=2528832011&sr=8-6
You will not get more than about 400-500mbps on WiFi (shared between all WiFI devices), but that is all you can expect at that price point.

Sadly, WiFi 6 routers are not in your price range yet, and it is so new that it is hard to recommend one yet.

The router is the heart of your network. Its CPU touches every bit of data you use. In my opinion, it is not something you should go cheap on. If at all possible, I would consider something around $200. For that you could give WiFi 6 a try, or get a really solid 802.11ac router with a quad-core CPU.

In that case the TP Link archer C7 is OK. It wont have advanced features but it will work fairly well. But basically router wise, anything Wireless AC (WiFi 5) on up should do the trick. But Id first look at what the ISP gives you. If you connect a router to a gateway you will have double NAT and conflicting WiFi signals if you dont turn the WIFi off on the ISP's box. Im not sure what Mediacom provides, they are not a provider in my area. But in any case Id spend at least $80 on a router, just becuase you buy cheap your get cheap. At $80-$100 you tend to get a fairly good product.

900~ usd at least dude, those ssd's and ram are worth quite a bit (would just leave it with one of the two, the more you put the less the buyer will value it. Though you would need to reduce the price too). If you are selling it stock, assuming it is an 8th gen i7, then 600 sounds more than fair.

IAnthonyFX reacted to Spotty in Crazy customer story #1 - Computer Repair Shop
Considering the customer is complaining about gaming performance (and not say, intense workloads), the guy probably doesn't need a $250 2x16GB kit of ram. You can get 2x8GB 3000MHz RAM for about $80-$90 which would have fixed their problem. If you want the fancy, high end Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 2x8GB it's about $120.
So, in regards to trying to sell him $250 parts when $80 (or $120 for the fancy, RGB version) parts would fix the problem and meet the customers needs, then yeah, you were in a way ripping them off. The customer was sensible to question how much you were charging for the parts as what you were quoting them was excessive and unnecessary for their needs.

The customer gets to decide whether or not the want to buy the parts from you. You can't force them to buy the parts if they don't want to. If the customer says "No, I don't want to spend $250 to fix the system" then you take the RAM out of the system, put the old RAM back in, and give the system back to them. You give them a report and say that your diagnosis has determined the performance issues to be related to the RAM, and that your recommendation is for a new RAM kit to be replaced and give suggestions on compatible models and the price of those models in your store.
You could charge whatever service/diagnostic fee that was initially agreed upon to find the fault, but that's really it. You can't force them to pay $250 for RAM they don't want. Likewise, the customer never asked you to perform those additional services you provided (cable management, etc), so you can't charge them for that either unless it was agreed upon prior and the customer was made aware that you would be performing those services and that there was a cost to those services.

So you tried to force a customer to pay for parts they didn't want, as well as charge for services they never requested... Then when they refused to pay for those charges that you had no right to charge for, you decided to steal their property and then sell it to make a profit?

It would be like taking your car to the mechanic for an oil change. Then when you go to pick up your car the next day, without you asking for it the mechanics have replaced the wheels, tyres, windscreen, and brakes, and then tell you that the you have to pay $2000 extra for the parts that you never wanted + additional $300 labour charges for services/work you didn't request. Then the mechanic steals your car and sells it because you refused to pay thousands of dollars extra for parts & services you didn't want/need or agree to.
