I am proud to present "Aeris Lignea"   Aeris Lignea, which means Copper and Wood, is a custom built computer desk with the computer and water cooling system integrated into the desk. The desk was entirely designed and built by me over the course of the last 6 months.   Before starting this project, I had never welded steel or sweated copper pipe. I learned as I went and made many practice pieces before attempting the real thing.   Once I had decided on the materials I wanted to use for the main desk construction, I started to design it out on paper. The biggest challenge I was going to face was that I wanted to make sure all the computer and cooling components stayed inside the 8" wide I beam. I had to custom build all the mounts for every component to achieve this. I needed to use PCI-E Riser cables to extend from the motherboard to the 3 PCI-E cards (2x GPU's and 1 NIC).   Another challenge was that I did not want any SSD's or HDD's visible. This is why I went with just the 2x M.2s. However since I am a video production guy, I needed to have a large amount of storage. To achieve this I actually built a separate 36TB storage server. This is housed in one of the other areas in the office. The desk system and the storage server are connected via a 10gb network. I am getting sustained transfer speeds of around 800MB/s.   Here are the specifications for the desk and computer: Desk Components - The frame is constructed out of 8" wide steel I-Beam. - The desktop is 2" thick African Zebra Wood. The two reservoir and pump towers are also made from Zebra Wood. - All the copper piping is 100% functional. They are carrying the water to and from the computer and cooling components.   Computer Components: -CPU: Intel i9-7980XE Delidded and Overclocked to 4.5Ghz -RAM: 128gb Corsair DDR4 running at 2666mhz -Motherboard: MSI X299 Gaming M7 ACK -GPUs: 2x EVGA 1080Ti Kingpin Hydrocopper Edition OC'd to 2083mhz -Storage: 2x Samsung 960 EVO 1TB nVME M.2 SSDs -PSU: EVGA 1600w P2 with full custom sleeved cable's by me (using Teleios Carbon Sleeving). Network: ASUS 10gb Network adapter -Audio: Schiit Audio Modi2 DAC and Valhalla2 Tube Amplifier with Beyerdynamic DT770 250ohm headphones.   Cooling Components (Dual Loop System): -Pumps: 4x EKWB D5s -Reservoirs: 4x EKWB 250mL X3s -Waterblocks: EKWB Monoblock -Radiators: 2x EKWB 480mm Coolstream XE -Fans: 8x Coolermaster Masterfan Pro AirBalance -Piping: 1/2" Copper -Fittings: EKWB Compression -Flow Meters: LZT M15 Mechanical Fluid Meter   Some fun specs: -Total weight of the desk is roughly 600lbs. -There is 87ft of copper tubing to complete the watercooling runs. -There are 120 copper fittings, all of which needed to be sweated together -All the copper piping has been sprayed with a matte clear coat finish to protect them from turning green over time. -The total volume of coolant for the system is 9.7L. -To fill the loops I need to use a 500gph pond pump to force the water into the system. I can have both loops filled and purged of air within 15 minutes. -Over 90% of the wiring is not visible unless you are on your back looking at the bottom of the desk. -The LED lighting on the desk is actually the Philips HUE light strips so they can be controlled even if the computer is off. The overall size of the desk is 7ft wide, 3.5ft deep, and 33" tall.   I need to give a HUGE shout-out to my wife for letting me do this. I spent more time away from home trying to get this thing done than I probably should have. I also need to give a massive shout out to Dave at Hughes Manufacturing. It was his shop that I did the majority of the fabrication. He taught me everything about welding and sweating copper pipe. I couldn't have pulled this off without him.   If you have any questions about this project, please feel free to ask!   For a full built log, please visit this link: https://www.cmws.global/modderszone/xtc-mortuus/blog-posts   Thank you for looking!

I think I got everything... if you have any questions, ask below

    ------

The first step is to decide what you want your setup to be, as you'll need to know how many parts to order. There is a few different options, and once you've chosen, click on the parts list for your respective setup.

    1. Single Camera w/o hub server
Parts list: Pros Least expensive setup Cons Lower attainable FPS/res 2. Single Camera w/ hub server - *RECOMMENDED*
Parts list: Pros allows for future expandability higher attainable FPS/res more reliable vs. no hub Cons costs more (you have to buy a second Raspi) 3. Multiple Cameras w/ hub server - *RECOMMENDED*
Parts list: Pros higher attainable FPS/res more reliable vs. no hub Cons cost (lol, 2 cameras + hub is still cheaper than a Nest cam) 4. Multiple cameras w/ a desktop computer as a hub
This is a setup that you can build, but I haven't investigated it yet, so stay tuned on this.
My recommendation is to have a hub server regardless of the number of cameras to ensure the best possible image quality, but if your budget doesn't permit, a single camera w/o a hub server can still work decently.

If looks are big concern, buy the nzxt kraken x61.
Putting noctua fans on it will improve temps even more, but only for a few degrees.
And at the end of the day, you are paying 40 bucks for 2 noctua fans. If money is not an issue, go for the noctua fans. If money is an issue, then by all means don't buy them.

Y'all are bae. That's why we've partnered up with Razer to give away one NEW Razer Blade 14, and one NEW Razer Blade Stealth (full specs listed in the announcement video), with a custom graphic designed by our very own Edzel Yago  .

    RULES OF THE GIVEAWAY:

    1. One entry per user. Duplicate posts and posts from duplicate accounts will be deleted before a winner is drawn, to leave one post per person.

    2. Winners will have 72 hours to respond. If a winner does not respond within that time, a new winner will be drawn.

    3. This is a worldwide giveaway with no age restrictions. Shipping costs will be covered by the shipper, but any duties/taxes/other fees upon delivery will be the sole responsibility of the winner.

Alright, now that we've got that out of the way, OMG THIS IS AWESOME HOW DO I WIN ONE???:

    1. Comment below letting us know which Razer laptop you would prefer to win. Feel free to make it fun - what would you use it for? Why do you prefer the Blade or the Blade Stealth?

    2. This is not a REQUIREMENT for entry, but you should definitely follow Razer on Twitter and subscribe to their YouTube page. In addition to providing the laptops for this awesome giveaway AND sponsoring our trip to PAX, they work with a plethora of other incredible creators in a number of spaces, and release cool content with some of them on a fairly regular basis. Please support them on social media and Tweet at them thanking them for this giveaway!!

    3. Check back in one week. Entries for this giveaway will close on Monday, September 12, and winners will be chosen soon after. Winners will be messaged by me here on the forum. Do not accept any other form of communication as legitimate, and do not share personal information with anyone who asks for it unless you can confirm that they are a legitimate source.

That's it!! If I've missed anything, feel free to let me know.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ENTERING, AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT ON THIS CRAZY JOURNEY

    EDIT:

Alright, we have selected our winners!!!

@Plavi and @willp3, you have 72 hours to respond to the DMs I am sending you right now. If we do not receive a reply in that time, new winners will be chosen! Since both said that the Blade would be their choice, it's on a "first replied first served" basis. (for clarity - what this means is that the first winner to reply will get their choice between the two laptops, and the second winner to reply will get the laptop that the first winner did not choose. This does not mean that we're only giving away one laptop...)

    Thanks everyone.

    EDIT2:

Alright, so @Plavi has officially claimed the New Blade! Congrats on winning

But, unfortunately for @willp3, he did not respond in time to claim his prize...

Our new Blade Stealth winner is @ted542! Check your inbox, you have 72 hours to reply

    EDIT3:

Both laptops have now been claimed. Thanks for participating in this awesome giveaway, and please be sure to keep an eye out for giveaways in the future!

Please don't report posts in this topic - all duplicates will be handled before drawing, so if you have double posted, don't worry about it.

You mean this one? It states "... Check back in one week. Entries for this giveaway will close on Monday, September 12, and winners will be chosen soon after. " and if I recall correctly, it can take anything from 1 - 7 days after the competition ends to decide the winner. Linus Media Group is a serious company, it might take some time before they can get to deciding on the winner. After all, they gotta work too.

I still don't understand whats the rush to know. Everyone has slim to none chances at winning so it shouldn't make big of difference if they would announce it within few days or month from now. Winners will get PM'd anyway.

CPU - You should be fine with the 6600k, as video games do not usually use that many threads.

RAM - 16GB wouldn't be that expensive, especially with it being DDR4 (2 x 8 GB should work out fine for most ATX mobos as it gives room for expansion during the future)

Video Card - A GTX 1070 works fine for most AAA games, and so it's obvious that he should be able to achieve good framerates on a lighter game such as LoL & most MOBAs.

PSU - Just get something ~700W  with a good, trustworthy manufacturer (probably overkill)

Motherboard - Just choose a random one that has the features you want, just make sure it's Z170 chipset so you can OC.

Storage - Go for a speedy SSD so your system can boot quickly and make sure to get at least 1 hard drive, preferably 2TB+, but at least 1TB  (after a few years junk starts to pile up, along with your library of Steam games)

Case - Just choose something that you like (within your budget), 'cause you're gonna end up staring at it for the next couple of years.

For the CPU cooler, monitor and keyboard I have very little experience with and will therefore not recommend anything in those categories.

i7 6700 non K most likely unless the K part isn't much more
Then you only need a decent budget board like one of the MSI VD boards

Far as the GPU+display goes, it more economical to get like a 470 or 480 with a 1080p 144hz free-sync display, a G-sync display should cost a fair amount more

i7 6700 vs i7 6700K maybe a 10fps difference at most in some games, the non K part already turbos to 4ghz, average OC is probably going to end up around 4.5ghz on the K part, though in the US the K part is only $20 more atm

and if you can afford the i5 6600K + Z170 + aftermarket cooler, you'd be better off with the i7 6700 + budget board for the same price, 4 cores at 4ghz turbo + Hyperthreading > 4 cores at 4.5ghz

Crimluck reacted to That Norwegian Guy in Norwegian supreme court takes opposite stance to USA - police may not unlock your fingerprint-locked phone by force
In a case that saw appeals all the way to supreme court in Norway, it was ruled that the police may not use coercion to unlock phones of suspects whose phone is set to use a fingerprint scanner. Thus, in Norway, no matter the method of locking your phone, should you come under criminal investigation your data is yours to turn over voluntarily - or not, as the case may be.

This is contrary to similar cases in the USA, where the opposite precedent has been set.

The man in question had already pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, but authorities were seeking access to his phone in order to look for additional evidence in case of supplemental charges or mitigating circumstances.

As the numerous issues around people's rights and responsibilities in an increasingly digital world continue to evolve, more countries should be taking a stance on similar matters. How do you think the die will be cast where you live?
