Caterpillar Releases Its Own Smartphone
Prophet of Entropy replied to ThePointblank's topic in Tech News
this looks like a nice phone, I know a lot of guys who would like a flir camera on their phone, tons of uses for doing equipment maintenance and wear monitoring. -
Amazon backtracks after covering NYC subway car in Nazi symbols
Prophet of Entropy replied to Samfisher's topic in Tech News
it's art, provoked emotion and conversation. also no Nazi or Imp Japanese imagery, just pseudo fascist imagery, since its based on Philip K. Dick's alt history novel of the same name it makes perfect sense. so its a perfectly fine add. I quite like it. -
why would you think an economic collapse would lead to a technological dark age? that makes as much sense as "If you run out of food everything will die!"

British journalists in Turkey arrested over using encryption
Prophet of Entropy replied to a topic in Tech News
turkey is an "ally" in the fight against ISIS like Pakistan was an "ally" in the fight against the taliban -
no he got off easy. 11 years of simple internet monitoring for helping, and helping someone join, group who practices rape and murder as much as the US army practices driving. remember according to ISIS its ok to take a 9 year old as a slave force her to marry you so you can rape her. plus they pretty much shoot any fighter who surrenders to them. they have murdered thousands of surrenders soldiers. plus murdering people who try to tell them not to do those things. or how bout beating women who they deem not "modest" enough. he's a piece of shit who deserves to be killed like every member of isis or supporter.

British born ISIS hacker targeted & killed in drone strike
Prophet of Entropy replied to MrStraightface's topic in Tech News

Foam/micro bubble issue
Prophet of Entropy replied to Ruune's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
it will. when I was bleeding the air out of my system I would pulse my pump from 30% (what I normally run it at) power to full to help dislodge air pockets. foam isn't going to hurt you loop unless theres' so much that it air locks your pump -
Japan is turning back on their nuclear reactors
Prophet of Entropy replied to TopWargamer's topic in Off Topic
the current level of stockpiled thorium in LFTR reactors could power all of the current earths needs for 400 years. we don't look for thorium atm, its a mining by product. -
Japan is turning back on their nuclear reactors
Prophet of Entropy replied to TopWargamer's topic in Off Topic
"thorium isn't naturally fissionable" true that's what makes it safer then uranium or PU reactors. no runaway reaction. "Its more expensive" if you factor then environment into things coal is more expensive then nuclear. "it also creates nuclear waste, more then uranium" depending on what type of reactor your using this could be true. (I'm not a nuclear engineer, but I don't think you are either) but current style uranium fuel rod reactors only use a tiny portion of the fuel in a rod, (0.5% of the uranium in a rod is consumed before its considered spent IIRC). the problem with using current nuclear plants for power is they are all based on a tech line that was focused on creating something that exploded. not on something that is safe. -

Canadian ISPs Using Fiber Will Soon Have to Share Networks
Prophet of Entropy replied to Rune's topic in Tech News
not kill, just have the courtesy to give us a reach-around. for those who don't get the reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wRHcfF1Sqs Telus just put in fiber in my town this summer and our bill is about 240$ a month for basic phone and a 100/20 connection with no data cap -
because in Russia this will include public officials, and its not just private information, it's that Google wont return any results as relevant. its basically means you wont be able to use Google to look up any stories about shady dealings of public officials in Russia. its basically turning Russian google into something more like china's version of it.

Steve Wozniak: Edward Snowden is 'a hero to me'
Prophet of Entropy replied to ObscureMammal's topic in Tech News
snowden may not be a "hero" but I think "heroes" as a concept are ridiculous. but I think what he did was very admirable, considering he knew it would make him incredibly powerful enemies. as other people in this thread have said anyone who thinks he's a traitor is either delusional, ignorant or so authoritarian in their world view as to be un-American themselves. -
sounds like the pump is DOA or its not mounted correctly. push pull is fine you'll get a small performance gain, if they are dis-similar fans i'd put the higher performance fan on pull.

Arctic starts selling thermal pads that you can cut
Prophet of Entropy replied to Bloodyvalley's topic in Tech News
those are not thermal pads, that's just grease thermal pads are good for using in between ram/vrm/mosfets and their heat sinks or similar low heat output items. and these being 6.0w/mk aren't even high performance pads. -
if the hiss has always been there it could be the DAC on your MB is bad or maybe a bad PSU, static can come from nearly any electric device that isn't working properly. even if it functions properly

How to make copper tubing chrome
Prophet of Entropy replied to spwath's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
if your worried about slipping with a wrench in your case, make sure you use line wrenches, not open wrenches or adjustable wrenches. line wrenches will grip all 6 corners of a fitting not just 4 like a standard wrench. -
Koolance's 380i CPU blocks preform great, GPU blocks? I don't have any 290Xs. if looks are terribly important to you nothing we say shouldn't really matter, you should select parts to fit the theme your going for.

Newbie Looking to Get Into Water Cooling!
Prophet of Entropy replied to The_Edster's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
higher FPI will require higher fan speeds, the thicker the rad the lower the FPI (some have higher then others but that depends on brand). the best rad I know for thickness/cooling/fan speed is the alphacool st30 line, great performance for a slim rad across a wide range of fan RPMs. how hard it is to do something really depends on how capable you are at doing similar things. for some its not very different then what they do professionally. some people who cant even use hammer properly would have more trouble. risks are covered in the FAQs. as for cost, the cooler it looks the more it will cost. -
How to run my pump at 7V
Prophet of Entropy replied to nj4ck's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
yes expensive but it lasts for 5+ years of 24/7 use, so if you factor in that you'll use it for the next 10 years.... or so if you leave your comp on 24/7 you don't care about cost as much.
