  1. You are proposing an interesting idea sir, i kind of like this middle ground approach where i dont have to do something dangerous as modding a bios with an added benifit that i can just buy any cheap nvme to pci adapter. I dont know GRUB will have to take a look at that to know more I have a laptop that runs on an nvme drive can i install windows there?. Im not to keen on the idea of changing the board, for sure i wont be able to bring that the new computer if i ever get to building one.
  2. That is the situation im stuck in, was hoping that i can get rid of the sata now that i have a 1TB drive
  3. My partner will probably retire soon, but i need the graphics card for my work (could not afford a full pc yet) so ill buy a good one now and will just be bring over My bad forgot they are called RTX now
  4. So my graphics card broke down and i have to buy a new one. What a perfect time for it go by the way because this year release is a huge generational leap in performance. Since i wont be getting a shiny graphics card soon due to supply shortage I might as well consider to upgrade my storage. I have always been using a SATA 126GB for OS drive. Probably most of you know that is very little fast storage for a desktop. So im going to go out buying a graphics card why not also upgrade my storage. Now another compeling thing why i want to upgrade is i have a 1TB samsung evo + NVMe ssd ( lets not talk why i have one) sitting not being used. I already have figured out that my motherboard simply cannot boot onto an NVMe SSD directly as its an old board and M.2 NVMe was still not a thing then. My setup: ASUS MAXIMUS HERO VI NVIDI RTX 3070 (the one i will buy) Intel i7 - 4770 16gb RAM I need help with recommendation on a M.2 NVMe to PCIe adapter that allows me to boot from the NVMe. I have read an article about this around the time M.2 was rather new and there was an asus adapter that does what i want but i could not find the article anymore to search the model of the device. If anyone has the idea it would be greatly appreciated thank you.
  5. Okay i tried many different apps but what i have loved was how netspot implimentation on how i am able to upload a floor plan and take some sample on multiple points and how it presents it back to me it color codes the area from strong to weak So in the end i used Netspot (I know i said it has to be free, but i think you guys know how i got it)
  6. I would like to know the signal strength of my wifi on certain areas of my house so that i can effectively know how many router/access points i need to buy in order to fully cover my entire house. Are there mobile apps (iOs) that can do this? the number of bars on the mini icon on the top right is not so reliable as i have only seen it on full and 1 bar not have seen anything in between
  7. Hello i have upgraded my laptops NVME SSD to a higher capacity one and would be a waste to throw a 250GB ssd. I was thinking of making it a fast portable hard drive. Can anybody recommend a good a good enclosure for this little fella. Hopefully a USB C using real USB 3 speed. Has a compact design, if there is one for the 30 mm version all the better Thanks !
  8. Point taken, then can we just assume that we really have to use NVMe. It doesn't have to be Samsung's, there are cheaper alternatives of course. I Have to disagree you on this, for one the more and more devices supports it now. Basically if i buy a computer now it will more likely to have nvme or m.2 support. It is not the future of the industry but my future, time will come where i will replace this rig, and that new system will probably m.2 support, maybe i need the space. Yes we do not know whats coming, but it sure gives me more options in the future.
  9. Hello i am planning to upgrade the ssd drive of my computer, I have a somewhat old rig and would like to know if it is compatible before buying. Currently this is my setup i7-4770 Asus GTX 780 Asus Maximus VI Hero 2 125GB SSD 3 1TB HDD (I included the hard drive because i read in some threads that some SATA ports gets disabled when using all PCIe lanes?? ) i would like to get rid of the 2 SSD and buy a Samsung Evo Plus 1TB Nvme SSD . My motherboard does not have an m.2 slot, so i am going to get an adapter (if you can recommend a good brand please do recommend ) According to my CPU specification i only have 16 PCIe lanes, the graphics card's specification did not say how many lanes its uses but i assume it uses the full 16x. The board however seems to offer and additional 4pcie lanes from the chipset. I have chosen the Nvme SSD compared to an ordinary ssd as a kind of future proof. Because it can be used in my hopeful new rig or in my laptop So, is what am i supposed to do going to be fine and I wont loose any performance or sata ports ??? Assuming that it is. If it is still okay i would like to get a dual m.2 to pci adapter, one will be for the nvme ssd and the other for a Wifi+bluetooth M.2 card. I could not find info on W+B card will still use a pci lane. So if i am going to do this, Are there going to be comprimises? What i am concerned of is my gpu speed will go down which is a bad thing, the extra perfomance is much needed on this fairly old system. Thank you in advance
  10. My old monitor just broke down after its 9 years of service. Its about time for me to get a new one. Any recommendations on a monitor that is close to this specs: size : 24 inch resolution: 1080p (atleast) refresh rate : 144 (the closer the better? ) I would love that the monitor would be near borderless and has beautiful colors, any recomendations?
  11. Hi we met again , yes we have already discussed that a while ago . But still yeah i want know when it will arrive ? just want to check the price
  12. Any idea when dell xps 15 2018 i9 version will be released ? Or is that a limited edition thing ? Thanks
  13. It seems that dell and razer have their fair share of cons . Do you have any idea about the zephyrus? Like deal breaking cons?
  14. How bad is throttling in this one ? Im pretty sure other thin laptops throttle too. Considering that dell cranked up the CPU wattage of this years model, i guess will i be expecting it a lot. What do you think? Sorry for asking a lot , not yet a lot of reviews are out for the XPS 15 2018
