reddevil1432 got a reaction from podkall in Used Thinkpad P50 with IPS i7-6820HQ (2,7GHz) 16GB 256GB SSD for Work (programming) and light gaming
Hey guys, I want a cheap laptop for work (programming mainly) and would be great if it can do a bit of gaming on the side!
I found the P50 to offer a nice overall package. Here in Germany I can get it used (refurbished) with 16GB ram for 500-600 Euros.
The difference is for 500 Euros I get the Nvidia M1000M quadro and for 600 Euros I get the Nvidia M2000M quadro.
Does that sound like a good deal? Is the extra 100 Euros worth it? If I am doing something completely wrong and you have a better idea/deal in mind please share them with me.
thanks!

here is video of someone playing WItcher 3 on P50 M1000M version:
here is video of a guy playing games on P50 M2000M version:
(I'd rather skip to Rocket League and games beyond that)
It really depends on what games are you planning to play.
Also I'm not sure why the Witcher 3 has so low fps because here, a guy (different person) is playing Batttlefield 1 and has pretty decent fps: (skip to 3:10)
So I guess the choice really is on you if you want a slightly/moderately stronger GPU or not.
If I was on budget I'd get M1000M but at the same time I don't play latest games that require really strong pcs.

That is integrity. While they do accept money from them they dont feel like it that it should change their opinion. Like when i accept my monthly wage from my employer(a company, not important which) but that wont stop me from telling my opinion about the products we make be it negative or positive.

reddevil1432 reacted to GoodBytes in What course to take to study computer hardware
If you want to design circuit boards, embedded system, processors (CPUs, GPUs, Controllers, etc,) -> Computer Eng. or Electric Eng. (software development knowledge required for this field, 'cause you'll be coding chips and circuits to pass through simulators, to execute tests that you develop as well. Software programming courses are included in your degree)
If you want to design electric networks in home, house, city, and be part of large electric distribution or managerial systems -> Electric Eng.
What to work in the telecommunication field, in designing networks of various kinds? -> Communications Eng.
Please consult your Academic Advisor from the school you'll attend to know where to go. This is the job of your academic advisor
I think Computer Engineer is where you should go. Please note, that in the field, for companies like Nvidia, Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, and so on, when a company says "Electric Engineer (EE) degree required", this also includes Computer Engineering. Beside, in the end it doesn't matter. your resume should reflect your passion in working in the field when you apply, even if you have a a degree in psychology, if you show your deep knowledge and passion during the first interview, you are good on the second interview. Of course, having the right degree helps hugely
(please note that Engineering fields related to anything computers should be considered as "New" fields, and therefore every university is different, some might have different options. Like for me, in Computer Science, my university of choice, had as option: web, gaming, software system, hardware system, business IT, general, and maybe 1-2 more that I don't recall. Please consult your Academic Advisor before to know which option is the best for you)

Product is manufactured in Ireland, designed and sold by a German company, yet the product gets shipped from the US, forcing everyone but 'Mericans to pay an arm and a leg in customs and duty fees. Brilliant.

Welcome to the Displays section, where everything's made up and the specs don't matter!
(EDIT: Please note this thread is quite outdated at this point; eventually I should get around to making an updated version, but that day is not today :P)

Does DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync/AMD FreeSync require a new monitor or will existing monitors be upgradeable with just a firmware update?
Also, if a monitor has DisplayPort 1.2a input or higher, does that automatically mean it supports DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync?

What do you guys think about this? Is this the future? Personally, I think yes because SpaceX is basically the only innovator in the market. Nobody else seems to be able to really advance anything in the spaceflight sector. I'm really hoping to see this happen soon.
