XyzWoot got a reaction from LilPonyHunter in Buying a 4 months Mined GPU for gaming
Hey guys i am viewing a Palit Jetstream 1060 6gb that was mined for 4 months. Do you think it's still worth it or nah? Thanks guys! the cost of the GPU btw is around 234$.

ok, here is what you can do; ask the miner if he has ever overclocked it, and if he has don't get it because the warranty becomes void, but if he has not then go for it - but only when you make sure this is the best option

It should run it just fine depending on the rest of your system components.

check with a PSU calculator like coolermasters'

XyzWoot reacted to Frankenburger in 960 4gb SLI vs 1060
I'm not aware of any benchmarks. Most reviewers won't review two mid range GPUs and include the results comparing a much newer mid range GPU. But we can extrapolate based on what we know - one GTX 960 is roughly half the performance of a GTX 1060.
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1060/26.html
Even if you had perfect 100% scaling, SLI GTX 960 would be on par with a GTX 1060. However, best case scenario is you'll get scaling of around 80-90%, so a single GTX 1060 would be faster.

It might not, 4 slots is not enough for 2 GPUs, as the 16x/8x slots are normally 1 slot apart
edit: oops didnt read

More than enough. It's a OK-to-bad-ish [Tier 6 :/] PSU with 600W. What else is in that rig?

Yep! As long as I'm looking at the right one.

No no no. You say you're worried about the risks of overclocking, but you intend to proceed without knowing what your core voltage is?!
You really need to know what that number is. If you've set your CPU core voltage to 1.5 V, that's really high. Dangerously high. I've seen others reach 4 GHz on 1.4 V with an i5-750/760 (and that's also pretty high). On the other hand, DDR3 DRAM voltage is usually either 1.5 V or 1.65 V. So depending on exactly what that voltage is it may be either completely normal or highly dangerous to your hardware.
Find your core voltage and tell me what it says. If you haven't changed it yet, it may be set to 'Auto.' I think most i5-750's and 760's have a stock voltage around 1.25 V.

Quick test, plug the a bootable device in the front USB and see if your BIOS can see it, if so then you have a driver issue, if not it's a physical issue with the case port or the motherboard header.

XyzWoot reacted to Kinda Bottlenecked in Help with some measurements
It might, the R1 is about as big as that.
-
XyzWoot reacted to aisle9 in Help with some measurements
...you do not need an R1 Ultimate on a CPU clocked at stock lol. If you're going for looks, get an H7 or a Deepcool Gammaxx 400. The H7 looks slick, and the Gammaxx 400 has a blue LED fan. Both cost $30-35 US.
Your GPU would probably fit just barely, but removing it would be incredibly difficult as you wouldn't be able to reach the tab to release the card without pushing a small object down between the heatsink and GPU...potentially punching a hole right through your motherboard if you slip.
You would lose the fan header for your exhaust fan, so that would kind of be a moot point. There's no other header available to replace it, meaning you'd have no exhaust on your case.
In short, the R1 Ultimate (even the Universal) is an all-around terrible option for your motherboard. If you're running stock, you're probably fine with the stock cooler. If you're going for looks and want to shave your temps down, an H7, Gammaxx 400, even a 212 EVO with a replacement LED fan would do you just fine and not cause all kinds of other problems for you.

It might fit, MIGHT, you might want to go with something a little "less".
I feel you,(with the no reply thing) I posted a build plan some hours ago, usually people jump on it but no one did, lol.

XyzWoot reacted to Dzzope in Airflow advice
Turn up ther fan or consider a different kind of cooling... If your dealing with high ambiant temps, your very limited in what you can do with a normal cooler..
This tells you a cheap way to actually get cooler (this works for houses too, kinda.. look into evaporation cooling for cheap cooling applicable to loads of stuff.)
-
XyzWoot reacted to SageOfSpice in Airflow advice
What I like to do with my cooling setups is use the front as an intake, and the top as an exhaust. I also use a small 80mm fan in the extra PCI port area to draw in air from outside the case specifically for the GPU and PSU.
-
XyzWoot reacted to WoodenMarker in Airflow advice
No, it wouldn't be a good idea. It wouldn't help temps and positive airflow only helps keep dust out when all intakes are filtered.
The only thing that helps blower coolers for temps is more fresh air for intake around the graphics card.
-
XyzWoot reacted to Misunderstood Wookie in About Radiator as only exhaust
No worries but you don't want rads as intakes though as the air that goes through rads comes out hot so you'll be blowing hot air in volume back into the case only to be sucked in and re used worst case is you'll get over heating issues and thermal throttling.
Rally depends what the rads cool so just be mindful of where the air is coming from and going out from and try place things in away which makes intake air move over vital components before being sucked out a radiator.
While trying to avoid an exhaust interrupting flow around the middle of the system.
-
XyzWoot reacted to Misunderstood Wookie in About Radiator as only exhaust
Just do double check my post I re typed it all as you were replying.
But that's a sweet plan to me anyway two configurations based on which side of the gpu the fans are.
-
XyzWoot reacted to Misunderstood Wookie in About Radiator as only exhaust
Took a look at your case man.
Leave your radiator at the rear or if the side window will hold it place it there as an exhaust ONLY AS AN EXHAUST.
If your video card fans are on top as in when you look in the case the fans are ontop put two 120mm fans on the top of the case as intakes.
If the gpu fans are underneath facing the bottom of the case, put fans on the bottom of the case as intake and lease the CPU radiator at the rear as an exhaust.
Leave the front fan there up to you or remove it for less noise if your not worried about drive temps you don't actually need air going over modern drives really depends how many bays you filled up just as long as some air is moving around the case should.be fine.
I doubt you'll be able to get the radiator mounted to the window panel presuming the gpu fans are on top facing the top of the case. if you can make it fit mount it as close to the middle of the gpu as you can. Why is that you may ask?
Well you'll create a positive air flow over the gpu because air will push from the top sucked into the gpu you'll have the CPU rad fan pulling air to the side and some cool air from the top will end up being moved over the CPU socket the mobo and around the gpu pcb and then finally sucked out through the side.
