  1. Hey, so I went and bought the lapdog the day before the review Anyways, I think the review is a bit harsh. Take the god damn foam board off. Don't use it. That gets rid of most weight, clunkiness, and heat on the lap. It becomes a lot more like just a bigger version of the second one. Also has the advantage of being able to be repositioned on the lap to have the keyboard centered when typing. The foam is comfy at first, but does make your lap feel hot eventually, and makes taking it off your lap and placing it on the couch more of an ordeal than it should be. With it off, the lapdog looks and feels more like a large controller you can put on your couch. After that, pretty damn good. Now he is right about the lack of wrist rest, I resolved that by just putting couch pillows on either side, positioned not to hold the lapdog up but just a bit closer to me to hold my wrists up. This is something they need to address and he's right about. Stupid, cause they already had a wrist rest bundled with all the keyboards allowed and just needed to accommodate it and add a second one for the mouse. Anyways, next refresh. But if you've got money to throw at your couch setup, it's nice, and nowhere near as bad as Linus makes it out to be. I do like the no compromises, because I do graphic design on my couch setup and having the numpad does help in sizing But this is another that can be easily resolved: provide two different sized models.
  2. I'm building an x99 system. Haven't got an exact answer to this question. If I buy one stick of 8gb ram, and buy another one later, can it work in dual channel? Or does it have to be bought in a two stick "kit" for that to happen, even if they're the exact same kind? What about quad channel? Like if there's a further upgrade a few months after with another two identical sticks to get it to 4x 8gb and 32 gb of ram, would it end up running at quad channel, or is that not possible because the sticks weren't bought together? Basically, I want to know if I have to buy all my ram up front, or if I can defer costs at no disadvantage.
  3. Can two identical sticks bought at different times work in dual channel?
  4. But if I'm not a "bleeding edge overclocker", the difference should be negligible, right? And once I do add the second stick, and then a dual stick that matches to bring the total to 4x 8gb sticks, I should be able to run at dual channel, then quad channel at the end, right? Or do I completely lose that ability if I don't buy them all at the same time in a dedicated dual or quad channel kit?
  5. Is it a problem to get a single 8gb stick and then buy 1 and then 2 more in future upgrades for 4 identical sticks? Will this not work, so long as I'm careful to buy the exact same sticks?
  6. Woops, didn't notice the PSU you'd recommended had higher wattage, I'll switch it now. Thanks! Also, I put this thread in the wrong forum, should be in build planning. Could a mod or admin move this if they see it?
  7. Yeah, unfortunately I took the risk and bought the case, so I'm stuck here with it. What is the advantage of the evga compared to the xtx? And would the sabertooth be able to handle two cards and running the NVME drive at 4x? I'm really having trouble understanding the PCI lanes and how they work/change with additions.
  8. Oops, forgot to add that all prices are Canadian dollars.
  9. Hey everyone. I've finally got myself a unionized job after being stuck at minimum wage forever. Haven't had a home computer in close to a decade, so I've decided to build my dream rig. Need your help though. The computer is intended for gaming at max settings on 1440p at as close to 100 fps as possible, graphic design, small scale video editing, and possibly self teaching 3d animation for producing short films. Again, small scale personal art, not work. Where I'm having trouble is making sure it is prepared for upgrades in the medium term. I want to be able to add in a second 980ti to upgrade to 4k gaming when it actually becomes feasible. But I also want an NVME drive for my OS, sooner rather than later, and I'm confused as to how the disabling PCI lanes would effect my ability to add in a second card. And whether I need a motherboard with more lanes in order to accommodate those two cards as well as the NVME drive (probably Samsung 950). Feel free to give me general opinions on the build, I'm really new at this and entirely self taught. The part I'm most undecided on is the motherboard itself. Let me know if I should go with the X99 pro instead, or the X99a Sli Krait edition.
