  1. Yeah its really frustrating, we have told her so many times if someone rings you saying they are from any company, just hang up the phone, and ring their call center... But she just doesn't listen, or gets easily lead, like with this one it was just bad timing, because we cancelled her Amazon Prime subscription (god knows why she had one in the first place) and a few days later someone claiming to be from Amazon calls her about a refund. So to her it makes sense, even though literally anyone could tell her Amazon don't do call centers... Im going to set everything up so she isn't admin and lock off all but the few websites she actually uses, apparently Microsoft child accounts can email you network activity, might do that just to keep an eye on things. Hopefully the changes to her phone line will make sure she doesn't continue to get targeted. Just want to stop her from being able to give access if it happens again...
  2. Hmm, trying to get her used to a new operating system/file structure wouldn't really work... Just simple things like a new start logo would completely throw her. Shes 84 and her memory isn't very good so trying to teach her anything new would be hard at this point... To put things into context, Edge changing their logo from the E to the wave caused weeks of issues because she "couldn't find the internet button"... That's the level we are working at here, that's why it needs to be something that either I can monitor, or will run in the background that she doesn't have to interact with it in anyway. Does Windows have a similar system? I could put restrictions on her installing/downloading content, basically I need a child lock for her lol
  3. Unsure where to post this, but as its a networking related thing I'll post it here... So, my nan got hit with a phone scam claiming to be from Amazon, it's the kind of scam we all laugh about, the ones that none of us can believe actually work... Well it did and they got her to open a tunnel into her laptop (she told me they could see her screen so it was successful). Luckily she realised she might have got scammed and let me know as soon as she got off the phone, I've told her not to turn the laptop on and will be picking it up from her tomorrow. Going to do a full wipe of the system, also going to change all her passwords and close any ports on her router just to be sure. We also let her bank know and all the other things you do in this situation... We have taken steps to hopefully secure her phone network. What I would like to know, is there any software that can either stop someone gaining access to her laptop like this or let me monitor things remotely? Ideally I would like it to be impact free or accessible via a remote connection (she gets scared of updates, thinks she will break the laptop) I'm thinking something like Glasswire, but dunno if there is a better solution out there? Ideally I would like it to just be totally in the background, something that is there but she never has to interact with. She only uses her laptop for email, Facebook and to watch weekly church services (as she can't go IRL at the moment). So maybe some sort of network lock would help? I dunno, any advice would be greatly appreciated...
  4. If that is the case for the new generation that *should* work... DP for Index, USB-C/DP for triples, HDMI/DP for super ultrawide, its whether they all play nicely together that's the true challenge lol! I did try that (I used a DP version) and it didn't work at all for my needs... Index wouldn't work through it (it has to be connected directly to GPU apparently), and when I tried surround it would be forgotten when it was switched to the other chanel, so it ended up being more hassle than it was worth!
  5. Hey guys, so, I have been trying to research how many displays the new cards from AMD support. At the moment I am running a 1080ti that only supports 4 displays, ideally I would like a card that can support 5 or even 6 outputs, I have never had anything from the red team so am wondering how they handle multi monitor support. With Nvidia it sees monitors that are in surround as seperate displays, so there is a hard limit of 4 displays connected at one time, even when using a splitter, does AMD do the same? This is what I would like to do: One output driving triples via a splitter (these would be in surround/AMD equivalent), VR, Super ultrawide. For context I have a triple screen/VR sim racing rig as well as a super ultrawide monitor, my current setup looks like this: Connected to 1080ti: 1x super ultrawide (5120x1440 unless in PBP mode) 3x triples in surround (7680 x 1440, 7720 when bezel corrected) Connected to my motherboard: The other super ultrawide output for Picture by Picture use. My TV The TV and other super ultrawide display aren't used for gaming, they only handle browsing and media output, so it's fine that they run on the mobo. My problem right now is if I want to do anything in VR I have to disconnect the super ultrawide from GPU and connect my VR headset, this is fine as a work around, but Ideally I would like a more permanent solution any advise on how to achieve this is much appreciated!
  6. LMAO, yeah true... was hoping my big PC spend this year would be new GPU when 3000 series rolls around (I alternate year by year), looks like that might have to wait lol...
  7. Yeah I will, was hoping someone might have a better solution/ more hopeful outlook... Kinda knew the second it happened I just made a very expensive and stupid mistake...
  8. Yeah, Im thinking that might be the case. Sadly I got no way of testing that part until I have a known working 1151 mobo And yeah your probs right, just grasping at straws here because I just fucked a lot of hardware through stupidity...
  9. Adding a laser module to my CNC router and didn't realise the connector from the mainboard to the laser daughterboard was PWM, connected it to a power supply sent a signal and boom... Stupid error caused by being over tired, never do projects at 4am lol I should have said cost of new board, I paid £220 new and a quick look on Amazon has them at around £280-£299. I did just look and it is under warranty, but as it will be obvious that it was caused by user stupidity I dunno if they would cover it... Haven't looked to be honest...
  10. Hey guys, so I did a stupid thing and killed my PC. Long story short, I accidentally put 12-24V through USB thanks to wiring up a project wrong. PC instantly turned off and wont turn back on, I haven't checked other parts (transplanting everything into my old build today) but I can safely say my motherboard is dead... When it receives power no board LEDs light up, apart from one light on the RGB IO shroud that flashes briefly for a fraction of a second. Tested with my old power supply and nothing.. My question is, if I send the board off for repair (either by sending it to Asus or a repair shop) would they be able to fix it or is it just e-waste at this point? Given that the same board is now £70 more than when I brought it last year I am willing to pay a bit to get it fixed if needs be... Oh I should mention its an ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E
  11. So, I tried overclocking my 4790k last night using Asus' ez OC tuner and it failed. After a few boot cycles it finally posted, but I now cant get into the BIOS. When it boots I get the Asus logo with the press DEL or F2 screen, if I press either or leave it after a few seconds it comes up with the American Megatrends logo, no other info, just the logo. (see attached vid) Troubleshooting so far... Cleared CMOS (using the Jumper AND taking it out), disconnected everything connected via PCI and USB, removed all but one stick of RAM. Tried using the Asus CrashFree 3 BIOS Utility but it doesn't seem to see my USB drive. I don't have an optical drive or the CD. Any help much appreciated, either with how to get the utility working or with any other troubleshooting methods! VID_20180420_123723.mp4
  12. Tried uninstalling drivers, no luck Thanks guys, yeah I will email EVGA later today once I'm back from work and have the evidence recorded. Knowing their RMA service it will be sorted quickly
  13. No, mainly because I don't have anything to hand RN. But I have tried connecting to my other monitors, every time I connect any of them to the HDMI it just comes up with 'no signal' and NVIDIA Control panel cant see the monitor...
  14. So, I got a 1080ti last week and its been working fine, that is until today. Booted and one of my displays wasn't showing found out it was the one connected to HDMI out. The display works when plugged into the other outputs and the cable works (also tried with another working cable). So the issue is fully with the HDMI on the card. And other troubleshooting methods/potential fixes you guys can fire at me?! Fell like this might be an RMA though. I can use the DVI for my set up for the time being, but wanna get a VR headset in the future so will need that HDMI out as I'm already running a 4 monitor set up!
  15. says she isnt a slut, yet has a cam girl donation tone and a Brazzers logo... Logic
  16. Recently my PC updated to the Anniversary update. Ever since I have been experiencing an audio desync online. I have tried watching videos on multiple browsers (Chrome, Edge, FireFox and IE) and multiple websites (Twitch VoDs, YouTube, Amazon Prime). Have no idea what is causing it, it doesn't seem to be a known issue as I can't find anyone else with the same problem. Tried playing the same videos on my Surface Pro, that hasn't updated yet and everything is fine. So it must be the update doing something strange to my PC If anyone else has had the same issue and maybe a fix please let me know!
  17. Personally I fully support his decision. I would hate to have everything I say and do in my professional life publicly debated like him and many others have to deal with. The guy literally cant win. If he engages, he has to deal with trolls/people telling him his opinion is wrong, if he doesn't engage, he is told he is selfish and doesn't appreciate his fans. I really feel sorry for anyone who is popular in this social media shit storm. It really must be horrible to have everything you say analysed to the point that it makes you ill... I really hope TB lives as long as he can, I believe he is a massive positive in the PC world, but more than that over the years I have been watching him I have come to see he is an epic family man and an awesome friend to people. I think people really forget, behind the media we consume are people, people with emotions and feelings. Fuck Reddit. Rant over.
  18. Going to test in my housemates PC at the weekend, if it don't work in his then im just going to send it back and get a replacement... lmao! nice try :')
  19. Thanks for the reply, I forgot to mention that I updated through the bios as awell. Bios version is 1402 which is the latest one. Just tried installing everything Intel related on the motherboard support page, the updater yes is still greyed out, and my CPU wont post. I am starting to think I might have a dead chip...
  20. Hey guys, I brought an i7-4790k to replace my 4770k as I need VT-d for a project but no matter what I try my new CPU just won’t post. I have updated the bios to the newest version, removed GPU, all the other tricks to get it to work and nothing. I think the issue might be to do with Asus’ bios updater for 4th gen CPU’s every time I run the program the “yes” button is grayed out (as shown below). I have Intel Management Engine Interface driver installed (I tried with the Asus and Intel download). I don’t know if I am missing something, not done something right or if the chip I brought is borked… Tech Specs: Asus Z-87-k old CPU i7-4770k new CPU i7-4790k Win 10 pro Will continue to work on the issue, but if anyone has any tips to get this working it would be much appreciated!
